Royal Jewels

I love that aqua necklace!

Right, Robin, it's always nice when we get to see the Dutch royal ladies and the their versatile jewels. BTW, we can hope for a glittering State Visit from Holland to Norway this year.

Regarding CP Victoria's order - remember that someday she'll be a queen regnant. The other two female recipients of The Grand Cross of the Order of the Chrysanthemum (that I know about) are Queen Elizabeth II and Margrethe II - two heads of state, not mare consorts. So, giving The Chrysanthemum only to man and females that are (future) Heads of State makes quite a lot of sence to me ;)

P.S.: Thank for the picture. I've never seen it before. Any ideas why the Bernadottes didn't wear any tiaras for the SV of The Emperor?

Hi again!

In my previous post I forogt to say that because most orders can be bestowed to both males and females, there is a difference in the width of the sashes. In the same time, the sashes worn by The Emperor of Japan and The Crown Princess of Sweden appear to have the same width, which makes me think that this isn't an order that is meant for women and there are just some (royal) exceptions. Anyway, since I'mnot an expert on Japanese orders, I can only speculate.

Changing topics:

Today (14 Janyary) TM The King & The Queen of Spain hosted a reception for the Foreign Ambassadors at The Royal Palace, Madrid. Here is Queen Sofia and her choice of jewellery - a necklace with baguette diamonds and diamond pendant earrings:

Back to the Japanese royal family. What pieces do they own? I do not know very much about their collection. Thanks

Hi there!

Njmom8285, welcome to the thread!

I''m sure you''ll like it here.

Q.Sofia''s earrings and Victoria''s necklace are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

Bobby, shall we call you Bogdan? Which one do you prefer? BTW, I think Q.Margrethe can make a lot of wonderful gifts to her daughters-in-law.... She doesn''t even have to pay for them after all! HA!

I know it''s been a while since we were discussing about CP Victoria''s amethyst necklace, that can also be worn as a tiara. Here is a photo of it as a tiara (I prefer it as a necklace, btw

Do you have any pictures of the amethyst tiara worn as a necklace? I've only seen this quite blurry picture of Q Louise (N. Mountbatten/Battenberg) wearing it as a necklace. (First posted by Bobby/Bogdan)

Here is The Empress wearing the Chrysanthemum tiara. In a previous post I wrongly called it a daisy tiara. The 16-petalled chrysanthemums are the symbols of the Imperial house. HIM also wears diamond chrysanthemum earrings and brooch. The pendant might also have a chrysanthemum design:

Here is a picture of the then Crown Princess, now Empress, wearing a diamond sunburst tiara with peal spikes. We can also see an elaborate diamond necklace here. I think this picture was taken at the banquet, durng the Official Visit to Thailand in 1985:

State visit to The USA and a slightly better view of the necklace from the previous post:

There is also a matching necklace:

Here is a picture from the 2010 New Year''s gala - we can see The Chrisantemium on Empress Michiko, The Princess Akishino wearing her wedding tiara, Princess Hitachi (sister-in-law of HIM) wearing a pearl and diamond fringe tiara. There are two other women, but it''s hard to tell who they are:

Princess Sayako wearing a diamond tiara and necklace. She is the daughter of TIM Akihito and Michiko, but lost her imperial titles upon her marriage in 2005. Now she''s known as Mrs. Kuroda Sayako:

I''ve posted this one before. State visit to Sweden in May 2007 - my favourite from the imperial collection - a diamond honeysuckle tiara, lovely diamond earrings and a collet necklace with diamond pendant:

State visit to (or from) Thailand - the jewels from my previous post and we can see a diamond bracelet on HIM's wrist:

This is all I can help with. Hope you all enjoyed it! And I'm waiting for other contributions, too (maybe some Japanese Pricescopers?)!

A month ago we were discussing the two bracelets the form a short necklace, not this necklace. Victoria has never worn the tiara as a necklace. In fact it hasn''t been worn as such since Queen Silvia transformed it in the late 1970''s (1979 if I''m not mistaken).

Anyway, here is a picture of Princess Margaretha wearing it at her brother''s pre-wedding gala in 1976:

Sorry, but something happened to the picture while uploading it.

Here is a link that shows Princess Christina wearing the necklace in Cpenhagen at her cousin Benedikte''s wedding in 1968 - Danish Royal wedding 1968 - Jewels

Here we go again with the picture of Margaretha:

From Princess Michael's amazing collection:

Do you think these are real emeralds? The stones must be too expensive for the Michaels and (assuming that they're real) I doubt that someone would wear them at such an informal occasion, even if you are Marie Christine...

Great pictures, Bobby!

I''ve found this that I think have been posted here earlier. I think it could be the same green jewels (the drop looks the same, but the brooch itself looks a bit different. the earrings are hard to tell.) but this time at a formal occasion.

PMofK09.jpg.jpg

I found this picture in a magazine; The swedish kings sister, Princess Desirée Baroness Silfverschiöld wearing the Leuchtenberg Saphire earrings, the pink topaz brooch, diamond necklace and what I think is her own tiara of wich I know nothing. (only that it''s been around since at least the 60''s, since I''ve got some pictures of her wearing it at a nobel banquet.)
I''m not sure about the occasion since the picture text only said "At a wedding in Germany"...

Hi, Robin! Glad you liked the Japanese jewellery pics. They have some nice diamond pieces.

Thank you for the picture of Princess Michael from the Stabe Banquet in honour of the French President (right?)! I think I haven''t seen it before.

The earrings are the ones left/given by The Duchess of Windsor and the brooch was once in possesion of Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, daughter of Queen Victoria. (Link)
From what I can see in the "informal" picture, the earrings are giant green stone studs and the square brooch may be a carved stone. Now looking at the pendant closely and seeing it during a state dinner, I think I was wrong to conclude that (this time) HRH wore costume jewellery.

Thans again,

Bobby

Would you re-post the picture or give a link, because I can''t see it. It''d be interesting to see this mix of sapphires, topazes and diamonds.

Thnks in advance,

Boby

Does it work better now?

Not the best quality picture since I took a photo of it with my cellphone in a magazine, but I really liked the combo; It could be over the top, but I think it works out just fine.

Yes, I can see it now. Thanks!
It''s a lovely photo. The only think I''m sure about is that you that this are not the Luchtemberg earrings, but more likely empty diamond frames. About the tiara - IIRC, it was a wedding present from King Gustaf VI Adolf and Queen Louise. You may be right that the brooch is from the pink topaz demi-parure.

Do you remember from which magazine did you snap this picture? Is it a new edition or an old one?

Bobby

I know the picture quality isn''t the best, but in the magazine you can clearly see the blue sapphire in the earring... There''s no doubt in my mind. It''s from the swedish magazine Queen, december edition. Posting a blurry close-up. :-)

sapphireearring.jpg

Do you know if the tiara was made/baught for her or was it something they had laying around? :-)

princessDesireeMargaretha.jpg

Hi, Robin!

Even if they have a sapphire center, thay're not the earrings from the parure. Sadly we don't see much from Princess Deseree these days, so it's hard (to me) being accurate when it comes to her jewels. These can be from her husband's family.
What I have in my memeory about the tiara is that it was originally a wedding present to Lady Louise, but I can be wrong.
Hopefully later this year we'll see a/two big wedding/s with many glittering jewels in Sweden.

This discussion makes me think where's Josefine? Anyone knows? I really miss her posts and information!
