I was just referring to the really big mistake of calling the Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara the Cambridge Lover's knot. One battle at a time, right??

I see! At least you alerted them, whereas I haven't. And what they've corrected was the biggest mistake of all... Still, however, the fixed article/photo gallery isn't entirely fixed ;))

PS: Wasn't there a photo of The Queen with the Vladimir tiara?

Personally I think that Margrethe choose this order on purpose because she wanted to make a statement. Maybe you noticed that the Greek president is wearing his Order of the Elephant the wrong way. It is usually worn from the other shoulder. And I'm not convinced that he does this entirely by mistake. It might well have been his answer to the order of St. Olga & St. Sophia.

Thanks, I hadn't noticed that the Greek president's wearing the Elephant in the wrong way. At least he's wearing the star of the order the right way. Do you know if anyone in Denmark commented on this (the orders) after the banquet/state visit?

Bobby
No, I haven't heard about anybody commenting on it. But I'm not Danish and didn't follow the Danish press.

I see, Cordata. Thanks anyway.

WOW, I accidently stumbled on this web thread 4 days ago and I have not been able to stop reading and drooling over the jewls since. I started at page # 1 and I am up to page #44. It's taken me this long to get to that point and I am finding myself logging on around looking after my 3 little kiddies, (I'm even reading while feeding my 1 yo, lol). Well it's back to page 44 for me, hopefully I'll be fully caught up to the present in a few more days. ha ha.
Cheers

This morning I happened upon this article:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...iven-restraining-order.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

The dowager Duchess of Devonshire has a lovestruck stalker. She always was quite a fascinating lady; that has obviously not changed!
This picture is from last March. Fairly gigantic rubies (I presume) in her earrings, and the diamond brooch looks gorgeous. I can't find anything on the Devonshire family jewels besides the antique ones exhibited in, I think, 2004. And the Devonshire diadem. Anybody know of a source for more complete or modern info?

Debo is such a charming lady! Wish her lots of helth and happy moments in the new year.

On RJWMB there was an interesting discussion about the jewels and a kind poster posted some great photos he/she took him/herself in Chatsworth hiuse, the family seat, including some of the parure and the diedem.
The Dowager Duchess has a nice collection of insect brooches, some very beautiful rings with diamonds and coloured stones (incl. a large cab sapphire) and a turquoise suit (necklace, earrings and ring). Obviously the Dowager Duchess also has an important pair of ruby earrings (your photo).
Among the jewels exhibited in Chatsworht is The Craven jewel - a large heart-shaped brooch with two sapphires and a diamond peandant and a huge jewellerd eagle known as the Kniphausen Hawk. There were also photos of a bautiful antique mens watch in diamonds and gold.

The Devonshires have a second tiara, which is convertable to necklace:

Here you can see a decent photo of the parure taken in Chatsworth - http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/5588851

And an article about the exhibition of the family jewels from last year - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/culturenews/7332321/Treasures-of-Chatsworth-House-unveiled.html

Yes there was. They've removed that picture all together, which is fine becuase the Vlamidir tiara has never been discussed as Catherine's wedding tiara. It's one of Her Majesty's favorites and I don't see it leaving her hands any time soon.

I love the earrings! The color on the rubies is great. I would assume they are natural and not lab created rubies.

Knowing Debo, Maria, you can never be sure!

I saw those articles, Bobby, thanks for putting up the links, earlier. Would love to find something with photos on the Devonshire jewels, besides the ancient ones. I went to Chatsworth about 20 yrs ago -- there were no jewels on exhibit then, I'm sure -- I would have remembered, absolutely no doubt! Darn. It is an absolutely magnificent place.

I just understood that the Phillips babygirl has been named Savannah. I must admit I'm not keen on the name, especially for a royal)baby. Had hopes for either Elizabeth or Anne, why not even Mary or Victoria. I even considered Winter as a possibility.
What do you think?

PS: I apologize to all Savannahs who love their names and are reading this. It's just my old-fashioned taste.

Bobby

Well, it's highly unlikely that little Savannah will be Queen one day. I know there is more pressure for traditional names for royal children born closer to the line of succession. For example, Diana wanted to name William, "Oliver." However, King Oliver isn't very popular with the monarchy I would guess (remember Oliver Cromwell??).

Chatsworth? Isn't that the house where they're selling off a whole bunch of the contents?

As far as "Savannah," it's the parents who have the right to name the child, so I'm fine with it, but I can't help thinking that if the royal family is all about "tradition," it doesn't send the message of tradition to me and doesn't seem in keeping with the imagine. Ok, so I don't personally understand Princess Anne's decision that her offspring not have royal titles let alone (one of them) an unusual name. What's in a name? A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. But it doesn't fit with the "fairy tale." Why do I want to see royalty descend into middle class customs. What point is there in that? I'll say one thing about it (all). It's unexpected. Everyone in their family are "royals." They should be imho (and mine is one that doesn't count at all). Actually, it's a good thing my opinion doesn't count. I'd cut them all off from government money and seize most of their property.

Didn't she have an affair with someone named Oliver? Maybe you're confusing the two? I don't know. Someone should write a book about all of the things Diana supposedly said and did. I keep hearing all of these anecdotes that don't have sources. Personally, I have a hard time believing that she didn't know who Oliver Cromwell was and that she wanted to name an heir to the throne "Oliver."

Actually I believe she wanted to name William "John" after her father and was forbidden to do that because the last Prince John died at 13 had poor health, possibly autism and seizures. The royal family now considers the name "John" to be unlucky.

Thanks so much to everyone who contributes to this thread, the pictures are lovely.

When she was pregnant with William, I do distinctly remember she liked the name "Oliver" and the royal family most certainly did not. LOL!

I did also hear that the Royals do not like the name John for that reason.

It doesn't have very good associations in the monarchy. King John may have been a long while ago but he was not somebody they'd want to emulate.

Edward VII and Queen Alexandra (then Prince & Princess of Wales) also had a son named John, who lived only 1 day. Queen Alexandra wrote in her diary after the funeral of her grandson John: "now our two darling Johnnies lie side by side."
Frances & John Spencer, Viscount & Viscountess Althorp and parents to Diana, Pss of Wales, also had a son (firstborn) named John who lived for just a day.
All three Johns are now resting in peace in Sandringham.

YEAH!!!!! One of my questions has been answered...it's obvioulsy not identical twins!

I think she should get a brooch with a pink tourmeline and a sapphire in it.

Now we just have to wait 3 whole months to find out their names!!!

Picture from a new year event in Japan. I am guessing that Princess Kiko (to the right of the empress) is wearing her wedding tiara. CP Masako was at the event, but stayed behind the scenes and did not wear a tiara.

According to Danish Royal Watchers, CP Mary did not have a c-section. Wow, twins and no c-section? :o She deserves a whole new tiara for that, not just a brooch.

As for more children, CP Fredrick said, "I'll have to talk to my better half."

The immediate family knew all along it was going to be a boy and a girl. Well done keeping that huge secret from the media!

Below is a picture of CP making the annoucement. While I do question the choice of the bright red pants, I'll cut any guy who has 2 kids plus newborn twins a break on the fashion!

Isn't it?

I'm envious of you.

I think the British are so funny. The Daily Mail story- she lived here in this pile- and now look at the picture of the pensioner's little brick house. You could read between the lines. 'The absurdity of the situation is betrayed by the size of their houses.' LOL!

Yes, Princess Akishino (aka Kiko)'s wearing her wedding tiara here. The whole parure, actually.
What a pity that (once again) we didn't see the Crown Princess. Do you know why we see her so rarely? I believe her daughter has problems at shcool, right?
