the GoGBaI tiara had a dedetchable base. in the list of Princess Elizabeth wedding presents (1947) the 2 parts were listened. later (1969) the two parts were pernamently attached.

Hi Alexander! :wavey:

What book are these photos from?

Lori

it's from Leslie Field, The Queens Jewels

Is QEII wearing a corset in the last photo or was that her natural size? She was tiny back then!

Lori

it was her natural size. see some dresses of that time (exhibition from Buckingham Palace summer openings)

The Queen is small. Her height is given at 5'4" but she always looks shorter than that, next to other people, to me. I'm 5'4" & feel bigger than she looks.

I love the lower part of the GGB&I tiara by itself. Too bad they had them permanently joined. Can just imagine the pretty things the Swedish princesses would do with one like that.

May I recommend this interesting link with many lovely gowns from Her Majesty's wardrobe that she has worn as Queen - http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/microsites/dressfortheoccasion/default.asp

Thank you my friends!!! The Queen had quite the figure and wore some pretty dresses back in the day. I am 5' 3 1/2" and don't think I was ever that small!

My trip to see the Diana exhibit is in jeporady :(

We were hit with a massive ice storm in Dallas. It is not going to get above freezing until Saturday. Grand Rapids is about to get hit by it as well, but it will be all snow and they are expecting accumulation of 20+ inches of snow. The flight I would be on was cancelled today and is cancelled tomorrow. I am supposed to fly out on Friday.

My school was closed today and we're closed tomorrow too.

So here's the backup plan: The exhibit is going to Kansas City next. I have cousins in and around Kansas City who want to see the exhibit. So instead, I'll fly there to see it and stay with them.

I'm kind of bummed...but there's not a whole heck of a lot I can do about it.

Diamond Tacori Platinum ring is the latest royal jewelry. and it is the best engagement ring for a couple who are getting married.

Maria, so sorry to hear about your interrupted plans. But YOU CAN SEE IT in KC! Yippeeeee! Still expecting a report. Bundle up till then.

Maria, I'm so sorry to hear that your visit has to be canceled due to the weather conditons. I do hope you'll be able to travel on Friday. If not, I'll be looking forward to a report from Kansas.

Best wishes,
Bobby

On 31 January at BP a gala and concert were held for for supporters of the The Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts. The Prince of Wales (naturally) and The Duchess of Cornwall were present, as was The Duchess of Alba.
Camilla wore her diamond serpent necklace and hew large amethyst earrings:
Here we can see Doña Cayetana's pearl and diamond earrings and pearl choker:

Happy wedding anniversary to the couple!

It looks like the DoC wore her bathrobe to the BP gala. :(

And Dona Cayentana looks like she's wearing a dress made of my grandmother's curtains!

I'm still in a holding pattern on my trip (no pun intended). We are now dealing with rolling blackouts in the Dallas area to try and conserve electricity. I talked to a friend who lives 10 minutes from the airport (I live 2 hours from the airport) and she's going to let me stay at her place Thursday night to make it a little easier getting to the airport if my flight is still on.

Keep your fingers crossed!

I'm new to this forum but wanted to share my experience at the Diana exhibit in November. there were lots of guards who absolutely wouldn't allow any pictures. I have the exhibit catalog and will try to scan some pictures. Anyway, the Spencer Tiara was there, on the manequin which put it about 8-9 feet up. Still it looked beautiful and I believe it was the real thing. The other Spencer Tiara was at the beginning of the exhibit by itself. It's prettier in person but still big. There were also several other pieces of jewely from the Spencer estate (nothing from the Royal family). I've seen pictures of Diana wearing the Reviere necklace (with only one pearl). Otherwise, I'd never seen the jewelry before. Maria I'm sorry about the storm postponing your trip; I live in Texas and I know how unpredictable our weather can be. I hope you get to the Kansas exhibit, you will love it! I've tried to attach pictures of the necklace and the other Spencer Tiara. Hope it works.

OK the Tiara didn't show up. Let's try again.

I think this is the Spencer necklace

Hey, guys -- on March 14-17 Sotheby's will auction property from Queen Juliana's estate. Catalog isn't up yet so no idea what's in the sale.

LS -- welcome! and many thanks for the photos -- your scans came out great. Also for the info on the Spencer necklace; it's one I wasn't familiar with & it looked beautiful on Diana.

--- Laurie

My pleasure! I'm at work now, but tomorrow I'll try to scan the catalog for the rest of the Spencer jewelry from the exhibition.

Welcome on board, littlestinker! It's always nice to have new people who have what to say join in.

Maybe you'd like to post the photo of the other spencer tiara on the Tiara thread? And maybe you'd like to join the discussion about it there, as you're the only person to have seen it (so far).

Once again Welcome!
Bobby

Welcome Litttlestinker! You have to tell us the story behind your name!

If you saw the exhibit in November, I am assuming you saw it in Grand Rapids as well? If not, where did you see it?

I just got the call that my school is closed tomorrow for a third day in a row. This does not encourage me about getting out of town on Friday to see the exhibit.

The items on auction are from Soestdijk Palace, the home of the late Queen Juliana. There's many furniture, cutlery, candle holders and I think some small objets d'art. I think the total nuber of itels is more that 10000. Thankfully no jewels are going to be auctioned!

Bobby,

I have been looking for the tiara thread, what is it called? I can't find it under forums in pricescope. Please help am dying to see everything. So enjoy everyones hard work, organizing and fact checking. Love this thread. Thanks

Thank you, Bobby for all of your answers to my question. Snow hit us badly, and dealing with the snow kingdom prevented me from
any thoughts of any other royal sceneries.
I love your link, and it is very interesting to see how out of touch with the main fashion streams the dresses of both, HM Queen ELizabeth the Queen Mother, or HM QEII always are. They remain objects of my fascination over the last 40 decades.
Only the fact, that all of the designers always cater to the royal ladies' comfort, has made some of the dresses and gowns produced over the years, very boxy and disproportional IMO. I believe, there's nothing like a little bit smaller cut, for creating a chic "French"look.
But I do understand the objective of the Royal Job.
Also,I always regret that the stunning aquamarines where not used in a better design.
They always remind me of my grand mother, she wore hers often.I wonder if HMQ Beatrix wears roughly cut aquamarines in this portrait?

The thread about tiaras is simply called Tiaras and is in the same subforums as the Royal Jewels thread.
Here's a link to the first page for you - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/tiaras.153398/ - the discussion about the Spencer's double tiara is on the last (4th) page.

Enjoy!

You're most welcome, Principessa!
Re the gowns - the Queen Mother once said something like "Bertie likes me in fluffy frocks" explaining her choice of dresses. And I tend to belive this. True or not, that's how I imagine a real Queen. And that's what Queen Elizabeth was for me. The same goes to her elder daugther.
To keep this post on topic, here's a HQ of Queen Beatrx's photo that ypu posted. I also think these are aquamarines

Me too. Good color on her. Much better than red, which she wears too much of.
