Royal Jewels

that's Prince Edward (the older one) Duke of Kent in there beside Sophie
i am always happy to see the Duke
he was colonel of the Scots guards for 50 years before the younger Prince Edward took over, so its nice that the Duke was there today
i am happy he was on the balcony, despite being the oldest living descent of George V and the only royal family member born in George v's life time HRH still undertakes royal work on a regular basis, but as an elderly man he doesnt get a lot of press :(2

Edward Edinburgh was on horse back, Edward Kent rode in the landeau with the Duchess of Edinburgh and Lady Louise.

The Duke of Kent was not in uniform as he stepped down from being the Royal Colonel of the Scots Guard earlier this year, to be succeeded by the Duke of Edinburgh.

No sign of the Princess Alexandra though from the photos I have seen to date. Hope she is well.

DK :))

yes i saw the Elder Edward's arm amoungst the 300 odd pictures of everyone else in the daily mail
HRH must be doing ok if he can get up and down those pull pit steps

at least the Duke of Kent stayed dry
the Duke of Edinburgh looked very wet by the time they got back to the palace

im so tired tonight
and tomorrow is royal ascot day one

but i have been thinking about Sophie's agate earrings all day
i think they go nice with the colour of her dress

I hope Sophie will be rewarded for her loyal service to the Crown soon, in the same way as the Duchess of Gloucester.

When I watched the procession live, I thought they are large cabochon rubies. I'm a bit disappointed that they just agate slices, but can't deny they are beautiful.

She looked very natural in the Garter robes. I'm very pleased for the Duchess!

To keep it on topic - her pearl drop earrings were a wedding present from Queen Mary to the previous Duchess of Gloucester in 1935, Princess Alice. She also had a choker with a large diamond and pearl clasp, also from the collection of Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester.

Her daughter Lady Rose wore a family heirloom - a lozenge-shaped pendant in enamel featuring Queen Victoria's monogram rendered in diamonds, there are small pearls on each angle of the lozenge. It is often worn by her mother and I have to wonder if it was ever worn by Queen Victoria with her Garter insignia!

It's Brooch Christmas, aka Royal Ascot!

The Queen kicked it off with none other than the mighty Prince Albert Sapphire

The King seems to be experimenting with bright vests and I dare say he pulls them off! For Ascot this year HM opted once again for the tie pin with Boris III of Bulgaria's jewelled monogram:

The Princess Royal rode in the carriage procession with Lady Gabriella Kingston (née Windsor). Both ladies wore lovely earrings to finish off their Ascot outfits.

Princess Anne's Grima earrings

Lady Ella's gold and mother of pearl discs (?). Whatever the materials, these look heavy!

Two other roayladies also attended Day 1 - the Duchess of Gloucester (in Garter blue ;) ) and Princess Nina of Greece and Denmark.
The Duchess wore the same pearl drop earrings, it's hard to see what, exactly Princess Nina wore.

all the photos from this week paint anything other than a disfunctional family !
btw i think Princess Beatrice has had her ears pierced, pictured twice this week in very simple gold keepers like the ones they sell at the chemist when one gets their ears first pierced ....watch this space !!!!

The Queen looks pretty, that's Queen Mary's diamond and turquoises brooch as worm by the late Queen on HM's covid pandemic broadcast
Cam also has what looks like matching earrings ?????

pretty dress, need to find better photo of earrings
1718835403302.png

if you squint you can just see Bea's new earring(s)
1718835491861.png
a terribly rude pole blocking a Princess's earring but i beleave they were HRH's wedding earrings

i dont like horse racing but i like hats and brooches !
dont mind show jumping and cross country etc as its a bit more interesting for me
but then Ascot is also about the horses, there are probably people who just go for the actual racing .....
