Hi all! I am searching for an emerald cut light to medium blue aquamarine in 10x8mm to 11 x 9 mm (approx). I am having so much trouble finding a quality stone like this at a reasonable price. I was quoted 3k for a very light blue. I just don’t know what websites to search anymore that I can trust. This website was so so helpful when I was diamond searching, so I thought I would reach out!

This site has some very reasonable aqua pricing but most are on the lighter side (a few are more intense or darker). I haven't bought from them yet but wouldn't hesitate to as they offer lab reports for an extra fee, they have a 14-day return policy, and someone on here used them in the past.

I will say I do not like their color descriptions such as 'sky blue' and 'ice blue' - I would ignore those and base judgement on additional images/videos they would hopefully supply if asked.

I took a quick look at GemFix and at Earth's Treasury and did not see any emerald-cut aquamarines, although there are rectangular radiants in your preferred dimensions.

Africa Gems does have some emerald-cut Aquas, and pricing does seem around the $3K figure for the dimensions you want. Africa Gems is offering 15% off if you sign up for their newsletter, and their return policy is solid, so if there's anything there that appeals to you, it may be worth purchasing and examining in person. https://www.africagems.com/aquamarine2to5carats.html

Jeff White picked up some Aquamarine roughs at this year's Tucson gem shows, and I would suggest contacting him to see if he has anything suitable - if going down the custom cutting route is up for considerations.

Here is my Aqua and Morganite traps from him waiting to be set in a ring soon:

Apologies for the finger prints as the Aqua is a very clean stone, and I love it as it is pale with some green in it.

His cutting is great and cannot be faulted. Have a look at his gallery of sold gemstones especially the one for Beryls and see for yourself.

DK :))

Ok thanks for that tip! I did look. They do have some in the preferred dimensions. Has anyone used them that you know of?

Mine is from Gary at Finewater Gems. He might not have any in stock right now, but he might be able to source you one.

Gorgeous gem!! I did reach out to Gary! What a nice guy! He doesn’t have rough aqua at this time but is keeping an eye out :) Looks like he did very well by you! Is it much more costly to do a custom cut? I’m very new to this !

That is beautiful! Great combination!! I did email Jeff from hearing about him on this website so I am waiting to hear back! Good to know he has some rough aqua !
Thanks for the advice and for showing your beautiful ring!! Was the color as predicted? Looks really great!:appl:

And if you don’t mind my asking, did you find custom cutting from a rough much more costly ? Thanks for any advice you may have! I love the idea of having someone so skilled so the stone!!

Not at all, glad to be able to help.

IMHO, custom cutting will always cost a bit more than buying an existing stone off someone's inventory.

However, with custom cutting from the like of Jeff W and Gary B of Finewater Gems, I am paying for precision cutting, to bring out the best in a colour and brilliance in a rough, in a cut design, shape and size that suit my personal preferences and needs.

To me, that's worth the extra.

It should be noted that it is usually advisable to get the stone first, then the setting when it comes to CSs.

A good lapidary artist would cut to get the best out of a rough as mentioned above, and not to get the most yield. Hence some do not like to cut to specified calibrated dimensions.

That makes sense! And is very helpful :)

Again, if you're open to buying direct from overseas:

Take a look at Aquamarine Traders on IG, they always appear to have loads of stock. I was quoted around $600 per carat for Santa Maria colour. Also Yavorskyy has had some big aqua on his IG feed lately.

Gary at Finewater cut both of my asscher's for me, they are stunning, one is set in the ring in my avatar.1645807799973.png

That is truly stunning!!! I contacted Gary but at this time he has no rough aquamarine that would fit the bill for me, but said he would keep an eye out. What a nice guy and yours is absolutely beautiful!! Love the color and aquamarines :kiss2:

Thank you, I purchased two from him, both equally stunning, the picture doesn't do it justice

+1 for starlanka - haven’t bought any Aqua from them but I have used them a couple times. I would say their stuff is very reasonably priced and colour is accurately photographed (in extra photos and videos etc). They don’t really do precision cutting etc - it’s all native cut - but that’s something that doesn’t bother me.

Some Chinese IG vendors have emerald cut aquamarine:
The vendor quoted me $450/ct for a 10+ct one 2 years ago.Capture.JPG

I will also look in my gem trays tonight, I haven't been in them in some time, I may have one.

@lostdiamondsad have you had a response from Jeff W?

DK :))

Yes we are emailing back and forth and he is so very nice and trying to find some rough that would fit the bill for me. He is so patient and kind. I am really hoping that he can find something to cut for me in accordance with what I am looking for as he has such a wonderful reputation here on pricescope!

Thanks! Yes I have looked at their website, and it's not that I am opposed to the fact that they don't do precision cutting, I think it was more getting excited about Jeff cutting for me (if possible), and their site is a bit overwhelming and dealing with overseas I believe. I just didn't feel that I would have a sense of confidence that I would have otherwise by using vendors very well regarded by many here on Pricescope :)

Indeed he is great to work with.

I got the large Aqua in the top left hand corner in this photo of his as seen on his FB page:

Totally understandable, for many the comfort of using a highly reputable vendor from a near area is worth the premium (not to mention precision custom cutting) :)

I have seen several sites selling their stones with a markup (e.g. Gembridge.com). I hope to use them in the future.
