She used the Betty crocker recipe from a mid 40s book but this one online is close:
http://www.cooks.com/rec/doc/0,1736,154163-233201,00.html

They are too die for, better than chocolate and the juice was her secret ingredient in everything from meat loaf to sloppy joe mix to stew.

Tonight we are having:

Grilled Turkey London Broil Marinated in Italian dressing
Grilled Tomatoes with parmesian cheese
Corn on the cob

Hubby is still MIA, waiting for him to come home and cook for me, hehe.

ummm...I have eaten like 8 fudgesicles today. :) so yeah, fudgesicles.

also...fried green tomatoes sounds interesting; how on earth do you make it?? ive never had it..

in the summer fruit is delicious , especially strawberries.

in the winter I like to eat tomato soup with rice (and all it is is tomato juice and rice on the stove for 1 hour and its so good..! this is like the only thing i cook..)
Hi FrouFrou ~

soft shell crabs. "special recipe" margaritas. Jersey tomatoes with salt & pepper. ice-cold peaches cut into wedges.

HI:

Queen Anne and Rainier cherries. Eat kilos of them in one sitting when they are out.

cheers--Sharon

Homemade gazpacho in summer, guinness beef stew in winter. If I were still living in New England, it would be fresh lobster roll time now too.

Sounds really good ... those tomatoes sound delish too ... I wonder what they would taste like with a little bit of balsamic vinager spalshed on them?

I''m really getting hungry!

Brrrrr, well it''s winter here, and although our winters aren''t freezing it''s cold enough to crave a nice open fire with a cup of mum''s homemade soup and some crusty bread... what a good idea, I think I''ll have some soup
3.gif
The fire''s already roaring! In the warmer weather I love nothing more than to head down to the beach at about 8pm when it''s still light and warm but not hot hot, with my FH and a hoard of fish and chips, yummo

We are lucky to have a strawberry farm in our village where you can pick your own and eat them at the same time! June is the best month for them here, earlier or later they just lose their flavour but they are so yummy while they last.

if you want to taste ''REAL strawberries'' come to Ca. we got the best in the world.
18.gif

summer time is fresh LYCHEE time, got some in the frig.
18.gif
DF, are you in orange county??? we have strawberry fields all over here!! They are soooo delicious this time of year!!! There''s one I drive by in fountain valley, and when they are starting to ripen, I roll down the car windows and the smell!!! OMG!!! So overwhelming and satisfying!! Unfortunately, I think they are going to put an office building over that field soon
6.gif

And I second the Lychees, so good chilled!! Add some mangos, and asian pears, and I''m in fruit heaven!! I grew up in albuquerque, and the fruit was never as good there. But CA has it all, so fresh, large, and juicy!! You are tempting me to go on a midnight run to the grocery store!!

It sure is! I had tried variations on it in several Irish pubs and brewpubs, and finally decided to try making it myself in the crockpot. It''s yummy! Perfect for cold winter nights.

And gazpacho is awesome too, served chilled on a hot day. I think of it as a salad you can drink

Hi Dancing Fire ~
face23.gif

Where did you get the Lychee from? I guess I''ll have to settle for some bottled carbonated lychee drink from the asian supermarket.
at the local asian supermarkets.
9.gif
$2.99 per lb.it should go down to $1.99 per lb by next week, when its really in season and taste the best.

Mrs DJ, If you love cold soups in summer and like tomato bases, this is awesome. I like it with minimal olive oil and some sherry wine vinegar, and garnished with sliced avocado and some chopped cilantro...you can throw in some big cold shrimp and it is the best!

Mmmmm... fun thread!

Summer cravings for me... fresh cherries, ANYTHING grilled outdoors, snow-cones at the beach, seafood, iced tea
Fall... tomato soup and grilled cheese! (though that sometimes lasts the whole year through)
Winter... hockey-game snacks, my FI''s award-winning turkey chili, hot chocolate every night!
Spring... picnic foods (preferably from DiBruno''s - yummy deli/restaurant close to my apt)

Would you mind sharing your beer stew recipe? If you would like to ... here or in the recipe thread would be so awesome.

It sounds like it might be good with some crusty sourdough hot from the oven!

Hi Lorelei ...
face23.gif

I bet we could!! I would have to make an addition to my Fall (September-October) Alfresco Patio dinners. Candles lit everywhere on patio, Twinkle lights on ceiling, romantic instrumental music playing in the background, the distant sound of crickets chirping in the background ... add good food ... good companionship ... MMMmmm ... Yummo!

Snow cones ... Ahhh, brings back childhood memories of stained white shirts and red & blue ringed mouths!
18.gif
Those were sure fun back then!

So what kind of snacks do you consider "Hockey-game" snacks? Just curious!

Have a great day!
