Can I play?

Just have the one....an untreated 2.04 ct sapphire from Jeff White.

Currently unset....in the process of being made into my new ER.

(I gotta do something while enduring the agony of waiting for the ring!!)

I can NOT wait to see that baby set! Can''t wait!

Thank you LTP.

Here''s one more on the back of Mrs. Jeff''s hand....he said that it needed cleaning before shipping out because she''d drooled all over it!

I can only imagine! I''ve been following your posts, and I''m prepared with a box of Kleenex in my office for the day you post that baby set!

I''m going a bit nuts these days. It''s been 2 years since I lost my original ER and the thought that FINALLY some blue bling will be back on my finger is so exciting (but very distracting!).

Lauren,
How pretty and fun!

Wow LTP. You weren't kidding...

I'm loving that pink Topaz. Such a delicate color.

They are all gorgeous. What are you going to do with them all?

Specs/Who''s the cutter/where''d it come from????

INQUIRING MINDS NEED TO KNOW!

Why are the photo''s that show the best brilliance always out of focus...grumble mutter...
The camera is showing it as a lot more pink than in reality for some reason.

INQUIRING MINDS NEED TO KNOW!

Hmm...I dunno If I want to try and get people to guess a bit first

I''ll throw a couple of clues:

It''s African
The facetor is American and reasonably well known on the board.
size is pertinent to my paging thread from yesterday.

Cookies for correct guesses as to stone type etc

Hmm, Umba or Tanga garnet? Barry Bridgestock? Size-2.5ct?

It''s a garnet but not from either of those locations. The pink tone from the camera is pretty very misleading I''ll try another shot with a more accurate colour. The stone isn''t brown at all though, it might be picking up from the wooden apple, crazy garnets!

Not Barry''s work (a link to his site would be good though, I''ve certainly liked what I have seen around the board)

Size...larger

I'm guessing Jeff White then. 5cts.

And we don't have a pic for size reference. Barry's work is mostly on Artistic Colored Stones-the site I posted to in my post above. His work is fabulous.

ETA: Or possibly Dan Stair. He's got a 4.57 reddish Spess on his site that isn't marked sold...link

Mmm..nice garnets Freke! Barry''s work looks to be top-notch then
18.gif

The stone is closest to the final one you posted in terms of colour Freke.

Size - not the magical 5ct but solidly in the 4ct range.

The cutter isn''t Jeff. I''ll put a shot in a standard (I think ) size gem box for reference. This time the camera decided the stone was purple
33.gif
Same lighting etc...bizarre!

I think that warrants a full cookie for Freke!

YAY!!!!

So, specs?

Lauren, I am drooling ALL OVER your pictures. omg! My husband called you a gem hoarder and said you were a bad influence on me

Pieface, that color is sooooo delicious! I am looking for a stone that exact color :) Lucky girl you are! And it''s so BIG!

Busted! Thanks for playing, enjoy your cookies *throws Freke box of cookies*

This stone is going to be used in a ring for my 30th later this year. It''s a neat stone. I wasn''t sure about the portuguese cut but I had read that it worked better on larger stones and that seems to be the case. The stone looks like an LED tail-light in the right light, you can see it across the room.

Pieface-that stone is awesome. I love it!! What kind of ring??

Yay for the box of cookies!!!

Oh and another example of Barry''s work is my silver topaz at the end of the first page of this thread. I love his stuff.

Phew! It''s all still there

Dan has called the stone a spess but it is definitely at the redder end of the spectrum for spess. I think this happens when iron starts substituting in for the manganese. Pala''s website says the redder end is the more desirable for Nigerian Spess, maybe the red overcomes any brown tones

Garnets are crazy cool, I think they call them solid solutions because they are all mixed up together.

You girls feel free to hit my thread in the jewelry section to help me design a setting for this sucka

Linda

Oh yes, I like to be able to wear my pretties so I''ll probably set them all eventually. I have vague plans for several of them but I haven''t gone so far as to talk to a jeweler about them yet.

Freke, Kismet, Lauren, gypsy, colormyworld, LiB... love all of the pictures! There''s something so yummy about loose stones. I can''t wait to have more little rocks to play with. Thank you all for sharing
