I see so many tourmalines on here. They seem to be very popular. I’m highly considering commissioning one but I’m on the fence because of the moderate durability and the lower refractive index. I’d love to see your tourmalines and hear what you love or dislike about the gemstone.

I have an Indicolite & diamond two-stone ring (I got the rough from the now-defunct Rough2Refined and Jerry Newman did the opposed bar cut), two green tourmaline rings set in argentium silver (tourmalines precision-cut by Dana Reynolds), and a loose rectangle Pink Tourmaline (Himalaya Mine, San Diego County) precision-cut by Jerry Newman waiting to be set -- I also have a 9mm round bubblegum pink Tourmaline white gold solitaire ring that for whatever reason I seldom wear even though it is a lovely color and shape -- I do love Tourmalines, they come in such wide range of colors and shapes and generally speaking more affordable than other colored gemstones.

What color/cut of Tourmaline are you thinking of commissioning? Is it through Jeff White or another cutter? Curious minds ... :)

Gorgeous rings! That first one is to die for! Thank you so much for sharing. I’ll share all the details when I pull the trigger.

Two rubellites

I have a lame green tourmaline somewhere but I can't be bothered taking a pic of it.

The rubellites are like a different breed. They seem to have much better colour and hold their colour beautifully. Better sparkle too. My green one just dies unless it's got the perfect lighting.

I have just 1 mediocre Paraiba tourmaline and it's from Brazil per AGL report.

Hey, roadrunner and I are fond of the blue and orange combo, smart birdie.

I have not kept a list, however, I have at least the following:
- The following from Jeff W:
* A 9mm Rubellite
* A rectangular green one in emerald cut (unset)
*An oval green one (unset)
* He is going to cut another green one for me
- A small green radiant from Gene
- A green sugar loaf from Gary (unset)

DK :))

I’d love to see your tourmalines and hear what you love or dislike about the gemstone.

They come in all colors and are generally affordable. And they can be so big!

I have a few rubellites, pink, indicolites, yellows/canary, green, orange, purple…

And they look great in the sun and I live in a tropical country with lots of sun. Honestly I may not enjoy tourmalines as much if it isn’t so sunny.

Your list makes me so happy because I was just thinking that I should probably start branching out from my yellow addiction. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one favoring one color!

I love pink-reds and blue-greens, and ocean and electric blues.

What I love: glowy open green or green blue color. I like rubellite that stay hot pinkish red in all lighting. This makes up for the lower RI

What I dislike: when some go muddy or dark in certain lighting. You do need to be a little more careful with them, but they are durable enough for careful wear.

i work a desk job and rotate my rings regularly so I am not concerned about the hardness - and you get a quality color, the RI is never really a concern of mine.
These are my two, they are some of the best saturation in my whole collection. Neither cost me over 1000 either which is ANOTHER thing I like about them ;)

Some of my favs. The bottom photo is an Afghan and a paraiba stacked with a spessartite.IMG_7793.jpegIMG_2508.jpegIMG_0785.jpegIMG_8330.jpegIMG_2942.jpegIMG_8922.jpegIMG_6977.jpegIMG_5499.pngIMG_2286.jpegIMG_2331.jpeg

Beautiful! I’m obsessed with your new one! Can I ask how large it is? I didn’t see it in your thread about the ring.

I don’t remember the ctw but it’s 12x8

I love seeing all the lovely gems here!

I only have two tourmaline pieces (both green): a pair of earrings for my earring jackets + a ring made by Daniel M, stone cut by Wayne Emery

What I like: pretty colors, (relatively) low price
What I dislike: I don’t have enough of them

Thanks to @mellowyellowgirl and @icy_jade , a juicy rubellite is on my wish list!

I don't have any tourmalines! OMG I feel so inadequate!

Thank you everyone for sharing all of these stunning pictures! Please keep them coming! I decided to pull the trigger on mine. I’ll be sure to share once it’s completed.

Here is a tourmaline bead and pearl necklace that hubby bought in Japan many years ago.

Just purchased this on from Gene! Hope it's okay in person. Love the color but not sure about the checker crown faceting but will see soon enough !!
