Show your Spessartites!

My ring is ready. My lovely jeweller sent pics today and I should have it tomorrow or Saturday. So this a central 2.5ct red orange spessartite with 5mm round brilliant cut mali garnets on each side. I like to keep settings simple to let the stones speak for themselves!

Wow, I love it!! I am all about simplicity too, and letting stones speak for themselves. There is more elegance in simplicity than in intricacy sometimes. Can’t wait to see it on you!!!

Ok, after this Mali garnet discussion, I found this pre loved ring on sale for $50 with Mali garnets in silver. I know they are not the best cuts, but I am experimenting with wearing them and the energy which I get from them, since I’ve never had one before...,

@Bluegemz Oh wowzers where did you find that beauty!? Congrats! The colours of Mali garnets is really interestng. Mine are greener. I bet your ring sparkles like yellow diamonds. This is why I love coloured stones so much.
If you decide not to keep it can I have first dibs!? :evil2:

My spess pendant which is for sale on preloved.

Hey thanks! I don’t have it yet...found it on Poshmark. You definitely can have dibs . The setting is not very neat, and it says silver filled but stamped 925??( after re reading the description) whatever....But I bet it’s tons of fun to wear. I just HAD to buy it because of low price, the color of the stones and the overall look just to see what it’s like wearing them. I read that at one point many hit the market , which made them extremely affordable, but now there are fewer in production, and prices have gone up. If it’s really pretty in person, the center stone could be recut and reset in either a nicer silver setting or in gold. We shall see...it was a total impulse, experiment buy. First thing tho is to make sure that they are in fact garnets With a gem tester lol! But I’m fairly certain that they are just based on looks. Could be a fun project while I’m deciding how to set my Spessartite.

For that one, I’m struggling with competing design ideas.

@Bluegemz They look promising don't they? They certainly have the 'look' of mali garnets. Will follow with interest.Their value is increasing but even though they are from a single source and quite rare most people are not aware of their existence. Most people are more aware of their close relations, demantoid.

Yay me ring arrived. It turned out just as I wanted and it is really comfortable to wear. It's also really practical with the rub over bezels. It's hard to capture the true colour and sparkle in pics.

Ah, congratulations!!! Looks great and fabulous on your finger. I believe that pictures to it no justice whatsoever. Now you have 2 spess rings!

Can I add this pic here? I did get a Mali to put with my spess. They both have Windows which close up well enough in settings, and I can't wait to make something for them. I may actually create my first bezels or invest in a metal clay kiln to make a duo ouroboros pendant for them.

Oooooh so pretty!

@MissSarah Congrats. The colours are beautiful together! :kiss2: Let us know what you do with them and post pics!

Beautiful spess gamets everyone!

I was searching for a 6mm round to fit a setting I have and was lucky enough to be able to pick from these four from Sukrita at Aurelia Gems. I wanted to keep them all once I saw them in person , but choose the one on the far left. They are so bright and glowy!BDFDBBD0-D219-4A2C-B5B8-3639B998CD83.jpeg

@2Neezers :kiss2: Wow, I think I would have been spoilt for choice but you made a good decision! Please post pics when your project is completed!

Beautiful stones? Are they all 6mm each? We’re they priced well?

Those are so pretty. I like the one you chose, it's so bright.

Really getting into the spessartite garnet the colors are amazing abit off topic but the indicolite Tourmalines have started to catch my eyes also.
A start to my collection of these. IMG_20200229_000143.jpg

My camera is slandering this gem by darkening it so ignore the brown. It is fabulously orange in real life.

Bestie's ring with the stone from Litnon. Pics posted with permission.

Haha setting this shape was a nightmare. I ended up convincing her not to blow a huge amount on it so we chose a setting that didn't really fit and they modified it as best as they could. Was half the price of custom made though and she loves it. I was mighty impressed with the end result.

Very nice would that be considered Fanta orange or Mandarin or are they the same thing, or a slight difference.

@T L they are all 6mm. I thought they were priced well for having such nice color. The one I picked was $162. Sukrita selected the ones she liked best for me from her inventory based on what I told her I was looking for, which is a nice perk of doing business with her!

Hi everyone, :wavey: I am really enjoying this thread. I fear I am officially hooked on this stone! I have been eyeing up cabochon stones like this at around £3000! :eek2:

images.jpeg-11.jpg

Then went onto Etsy and searched for a more affordable option and found this!

Call it an early mothers day present. :mrgreen2:The spessartite measures 12x10mm and it is set in silver with 18ct gold accents. What does everyone think of cabochon spessartites?

@Bluegemz How are you getting on with the mali ring. Has it arrived yet? :mrgreen2:

Hey, thanks for asking! It came and it is amazingly sparkly.....I did a refractive index test which was confusing. They measure not as high as CZ’s but a little above garnet and into the zircon range. But then I tested my daughters spess ring and it was the same.
I’m waiting to find a gem tester.. for more info. Under the loupe, they are very clean, but some facet chipping under the loupe. Also, there are color variations, but I can’t discern Wether that is because of the varying depths of the stones or not. Definitely yellow with greenish undertones.
Depending on what they are...I might give it to my daughter who wants it.....more to come.

I LOVE cabochon Spessartites and those are lovely!

Fantastic color, fantastic price! Enjoy!

Thank you!
I should have mentioned to @T L that I also purchased an orangy-pink spinel at the same time, so there’s a possibility I received a discount on the spess due to also purchasing the spinel. I didn’t ask though, so I’m not certain about that.
Here’s the spess in different lighting than above looking a bit more yellow-orange, along with my new spinel :))
