But MissGotRocks, I do have to reply to you a bit so you can have fun with some numbers. This stone stood out among a tray of about 10 rounds between .50 ct and 4 ct. Best sparkle, best facet pattern, could just smell potential looking at it. It is my favorite way to look at diamonds too, amongst others. I'd also trained my eye over the years looking and learning on here and at brick and mortar antique shops and jewelers. I was still pretty nervous as I had about 5 minutes with it, but when I took it outside in bright sunlight that sealed it. I could see it was flatter, and it just didn't add up with what I was seeing. It should have looked worse. It should have had a higher crown I thought.
Diamond math is such a web of factors, if this, then that, do this to it than that happens....I could tell it just needed a little something to make it bust out all over. As you can see from the GIA reports, it got a little makeover-just about all over. The main things that happened to it were getting rid of a chip and some bruising in the girdle which needed to be done, and shortening the lower girdle facets which was the cutters decision. I asked for girdle rehab and polish, but those things led to the other areas needing some adjustments. I like to control things, but sheesh, who am I to tell the cutter what to do but "pretty it up to its potential" ? They said it was an oec, Dreamer said early round brilliant. We sent pics back and forth of types of facet patterns and in the end, it turned out more snowflake than flower. I can still see the flower, but it is less prominent. The snowflake pattern was always there, now, more so. Whatever, it is on fire just about all the time. And Single Stone is so good at what they do, I can't believe I was asking dopey questions like, "What color are the melee oecs?". Questioning Single Stone...
I still think just the polish was a huge factor. Getting those facet junctions cripy again helps the light really bounce around.
