Since my soon-to-be-fiance won''t let me go with him to look at rings and I''d feel dumb going by myself (Umm, hi. I''d like to try on some solitaire erings. No, my boyfriend won''t be joining me. No, he wants to choose the ring all by himself. Yes, I''m a whiny nagging girlfriend.....), show me your solitaires!! I''m trying to gauge how big a .5 ct RB diamond would look on my size 5 finger, so please post pics of your solitaires below 1ct, preferably between .3 and .7 cts. Any shape and color metal will do!

Thanks!!

JCJD--

First, I don''t have a pic, but have tried on 1/2 carat solitaires and I do like the way they look, and I wear a size 6. (3/4ct makes me swoon, but 1/2 or even 1/3 ct is lovely!)

Second, don''t be embarrassed about going into a jewelry store alone! They''re used to it. I did, and I''m glad because I had no idea what size-ish I was looking for, my only experience being online. I was afraid 1/3ct might be too small, but was happy with it when I tried it on. Do what I did: "Hi, I''m supposed to be looking for an engagement ring. Do you think you could help me figure out what I like?" They don''t even ask where he is, although you might add something along the lines of he wants it to be a surprise... and let them write down the particular ring you like on their business card when you leave. It makes them feel special.

I recommend you go to the maul instead of stand-alone b&ms........*gasp*! Only because 1, you''re obviously never going to buy from the maul so you won''t be embarrassed if you return 8 months later to make a purchase and 2, it''s easier to make a quick getaway from the maul than from a b&m.

You''re never going to know until you have it on your hand!! Do it!! Do it!!!

I won''t post a pic because I don''t fit those stats
7.gif
BUT! Don''t feel silly going in and looking by yourself. I did it many, many, many, many times! Believe me...it isn''t uncommon
2.gif
I felt really silly at first but the jeweler told me that I would be surprised by how many women came in without their other half.

Go have fun!!!

Aww! you guys are so sweet! I can''t help feeling like I''ll be going behind his back or something, despite the fact that he basically told me to go by myself... I dunno... I''ll try to drag my sister with me maybe....

And anybody who fits the stats (even fits the stats loosely!), please post pics! Thank you!

Oh Please, I go all the time and try on different sized solitaires and bands. What the heck.
She should go and have some fun.

I did solo flights too! I'll admit i felt a little silly, but it was so much nicer and easier by myself. I didnt have him every three seconds going, are we done yet? Are we done yet? Are we done yet? Im hungry. My feet hurt. Are we done yet? Not to mention giving me the "HOW MUCH?!?!" look. You can take your time and try every last ring on... even if they do cost $25k... who really needs to know your real budget anyways! Sometimes i was asked where he was and i would say he was working, which was actually true, but they dont need to know your b/f isnt. Maybe he is on Safari in Africa or on business to Europe! But go and have fun!

Now i need to defend the b/f... he didnt do the 3 yr old toddler routine everytime. Just the first couple trips and then when we had been looking for more than an hour. But he is sweet, and the last time we went (the one that counts) he was a very well-behaved 24 yr old! Although i still had to treat him to a Best Buy trip and ice cream!

OK, OK, I''m convinced.... but you know how we PS-ers LOVE pictures!!! Post pics anyways!!!

Im at around a 5.5, probably a bit smaller. My stone is a .86

It''s .91 ct. F VVS2.

I wear a size 5 and I think it''s a perfect size for my hand (of course I wouldn''t turn down a bigger one if the hubbie would like to indulge me in the future...heehee)

These are the full stats.

One more.

Oh, and don''t feel funny trying on rings by yourself. I tried on a million of them alone and actually enjoyed it. My now hubbie is not really into jewelry so he didn''t enjoy it, but did want me to have something I would love forever. Go ahead ... HAVE FUN!!!!

Thank you very much. It's very special to me. Though I thought I would be happy with a plain comfort fit band, I'm really not. So I hope to have a 2 mm shared prong eternity (by Signed Pieces) band under my tree this year. I tried that one recently and I know it fits snuggly to it. /idealbb/editor/cute/images/emwink.gif

Thanks for all the beautiful pics and encouragement everyone!! Keep the pictures coming!!

So, I dragged my sister along with me last night (not that she wasn''t too keen on tagging along...

). We went to 2 places in the mall, a local jewelry chain and Zales, and I tried on diff carat sizes in solitaire settings and absolutely fell in love with the 3/8 carat RB!! It just looked *perfect* on my hand! Smaller than what we typically see on here, but just the right size for me!
9.gif
The 1/4 and 1/2 RB''s were nice too, but man-oh-man, that 3/8 was singing to me!!

Liked the 1/2 ct princess too... and 1/2 tcw 3-stones... Choices choices! Maybe it''s a good think he''s picking this without my input!!!

I tried on some 5 & 7 stone w-bands too, and I''m loving the channel-set bands with a solitaire! I also tried on a 1/4 tcw shared prong 7-stone that was gorgeous!! Just a tiny little line of sparkles.

Thanks again for convincing me to go try on rings! Now I''m afraid I''ll never stop!

I recently purchased a ring for my fiance, and she''s a 4.5. I went with a 0.87-RB, although I did think anything larger than 0.75 was a bit too big for her hand. I went with the bigger size b/c I felt that anything smaller didn''t "look right" with the setting I chose. Sorry I have no pictures, but it is pretty.

If it''s important to you (which it really isn''t to us), she gets plenty of bling-bling compliments (is your arm tired?) from friends/coworkers. I think you''ll be quite happy at anywhere from 0.4-0.7. (I would go a bit bigger than 0.3 if I were you, b/c that was the lower limit on her 4.5 finger, so with a 5, you''ll be fine at >=0.4.) If I think of it, and get a pic this weekend, I''ll post it for you.

Also, having shopped for about 4 months (maul and B&M), I went into plenty of stores, and saw plenty of women looking/trying alone. Don''t worry, and don''t feel guilty.

7/1 - I''ll send my therapy bills to you then, OK?
31.gif
Definitely addictive seeing diamonds in person on my actual finger. Of course, since PS has made me a snob, I noticed all the inclusions in the display diamonds anyways.... Oh well, they''re still pretty under the bright lights!

jfaller - I''m sure that .87 is stunning on your fiance''s finger, and I''m glad it''s the right size for you two, but since I work with wild animals and am an outdoors and cycling fanatic, anything larger than .5 - .7 is just too big for my personal comfort, esp. cause I just want a solitaire. The "bling-bling compliments" aren''t what I''m going for either, but I''d gladly take a .2 ct H&A or 8* over a 1 ct "dead" diamond! Most of the rings you see here in NE are less than 3/4 or even 1/2 cts, and I was very comfortable with the 1/4 to 1/2 on my hand, but I guess we''ll see what the b/f picks out for me! The 1ct was beautiful, but not practical for my lifestyle. And you can''t leave me hanging here!!! Pictures please!!
9.gif
Can you at least describe the setting???? You''ve piqued my curiosity!

Here''s a pic of my p-ring (from the Anxious thread, page 24) so you can get a feel for the size of my hand. I''ve got long skinny fingers, and you can see a couple of my outdoorsy scars (pinky, underneath the nail, and hand, just below the index nuckle). This pic is about life size too, at least on my screen.

Ivy, your ring is gorgeous. The setting is amazing. I am a size 6, but fingers are fat and wrinkly, cracked my knuckles as a kid. I regret it now, but oh well. Keep the pics coming.

Bump! Cause I need more pictures! I might have to go back to the mall if you guys don''t "put out"!!

Well, I went back and tried on some more rings last night, and got my finger sized, and it turns out I''m more of a size 4 than a size 5! I also tried on a 2ct RB that was HUGE!! but I''m still loving the 3/8!! :) Any more pictures people??

Show me your size 4 -or-so solitaires now!!

Edited to say:

Sorry, I did something wrong posting the pic - will try again.

Here''s my 0.84ct on a size 5.5 finger.

(Looks big enough to me and I do have a 2ct one as well to compare with)

Beautiful bagpuss!! Thanks for sharing with me!

JCJD

No problem!

Here it is with my original 0.2ct (approx) e-ring for comparison - the illusion setting makes the original stone look bigger than it is.

Strange, but I just noticed how yellow the gold is in my original e-rings. Yet all three rings are 18ct gold. Must have been the mix used.
