A great buy and gorgeous too!

Thanks all for your compliments!
Colorluvr - Yes, CS are definitely addictive... I would love to see your collection, esp your new Mahenge.

Uppy - You're so sweet... I would loooove to see your Mahenge too, hopefully very soon? I also love your setting ideas for the stone & can't wait to see it set - have you decided to go with Leon? I haven't thought about setting mine yet, though maybe halo it...?

LtlFirecracker, sphenequeen and Fly Girl - Thanks for the compliments!

TL - Thanks for your kind words - I really admire your fantastic gem collection & aspire to be as knowledgeable as you (& many others on this forum)!

Chictomato - I would say the colour is reddish hot pink; yes, I also think it's a bit more red than Eric's photo, though the vendor description did state 'pink (+/- red)'.
The one just above the vendor pic was taken at night, under incandescent light; as our light bulbs have quite a bit of warm yellow cast, this in turn made the stone look a lot more red/orange... though IRL, I don't think it's got any orange.
(Btw, the picture your are referring to is from the front cover of 'The Little Prince' by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.)

Cind11 - "Does it ever look hot pink?" Yes, I think so.. though it does have a reddish tinge to it. My DD also thinks it's hot pink, but then again perception of colour is highly subjective, isn't it...

Arcadian and Lovinggems - Thanks!

I'm going to bore everyone by posting a couple of more pics - this one was taken outside on a sunny day, in the shade.

It''s a very nice color! I especially like the first and the last (huge) photo.

I don’t mind seeing more pictures of your Mahenge as it seems to glow all the time.

I keep coming back to look at this - it''s amazingly glowy, whatever color you call it! I try to branch out with other colors, but that hot pinkish red is my all-time favorite.

Mine definitely seems to be more pink that yours... I don''t ever see any red in mine

What a beauty! You can post as many pictures of it as you like, I could never grow tired of looking at it.

very nice and big and pretty
does it have a window and did it come with a report? (curious)

very pretty colour! I love the blue spinel pear too :)

Virgoruby - It''s a beauty! I can''t wait to see what you do with it

Wow, the glow this stone has. So pretty! I love the color and the size. Amazing!!

Thats a great looking color! I really like the red-pink, pink-red border color, I can''t wait to see how you set it... any plans already?

Thanks ma re, Chrono, cellentani and kribbie!

Colorluvr - Your spinel is very pretty & I think it deserves a thread of its own!

Haagen_dazs - Good question. I''m not sure, but I suspect there is a tiny window (though I can''t really read through it)... I did not get a lab memo/certificate for this stone, as I bought it from a PS recommended vendor with excellent reputation. I also understand that spinels are generally not known for treatments. There are synthetic materials around, but as I was getting it from a trusted source, this was not an issue for me.. (hope I didn''t speak too soon.

Maevie, Kunzite, portia and sleepyspinel - thanks for your compliments!

Sleepyspinel - I love your beautiful spinel too - where did you get yours?

Thanks, if I can manage to get more decent pictures, I''ll try. I had to take several, just to get the ones I posted..... it''s a pretty little sucker, but hard to photograph because it is kind of small, but I think I''ve found a setting that will showcase it, so now I just have to dig up the funds to buy the setting.

With tourmaline & spinel pear.
WOW I''m LOVING this shot!! GREAT colors.

You said you have an untrained eye, but I think you''re wrong. You pick very nice gems. TFS

Well thanks! Mine stone is also from Mahenge... albeit before it was the *IT* place to be from ie before a premium was attached to the locality... specifically I got it from Multicolour.com :)

Stone Hunter - Thanks for your kind words, though I think the real credit goes to Eric at Swala (for giving me lots of info on the Mahenge), Gene at Precision Gem (for offering me a beautiful tourmaline asscher in response to my request), and last but not least, PSers who gave me lots of invaluable advice when purchasing the spinel pear.

sleepyspinel - I just have to applaud you for having the foresight in acquiring a beautiful Mahenge before the price surge. What''s your next prediction?

colorluvr - Look forward to pics of your spinel and the setting soon.

Ok, so I''m going to post one final pic.. (N.B. I''ve ruthlessly exploited my DD for this...
