Does anyone have a Princess Diana type sapphire ring? There is 80s music on in the background, which is what made me think of it..

I once came across this monster, its 52+cts, and it's owned by 2 brothers who sell mainly rubies and sapphires. The colour was better in person than it looks in this rushed photo where it looks like a cabochon but it was actually faceted.

Thank you for sharing that. Proof that less is more, I think.

I never liked Princess Diana's sapphire. I don't know if it was me, but that stone was way too dark, and didn't seem to have any nice blue color or sparkle, it always looked flat and dark. Perhaps it didn't photograph well. I like that one above however, I'll take it!! :cheeky:  :cheeky:  It doesn't look very good on a man's hand though. :knockout:

I think I might have seen something similar here on PS. Perhaps it could be Catmom (who has many gorgeous blue sapphires) or someone else. While the size of the late Princess Diana’s sapphire might be large, it never photographed well; always appearing inky black to me eye. Perhaps it does look better IRL? In any case, a ring like that obviously looks out of place on a man’s hand. :P

Mamma mia!

Always wondered what Diana's sapphire looked like IRL; it did photograph dark. Not as bad as one I used to have, though, which was stolen & I didn't really cry many tears. Very dark, & that meant I could afford it in those days. Yahaha.

Ha, less is more sums that up exactly.

Mans hand?? ;(

Yes you're right and worse still being on the pinky finger

There's a lot more info on Diana's ring in the royal jewels sticky thread in the Jewelry subforum, but here's the most close up photo of it, entwined with Prince Charles' Prince of Wales ring. Either this is the worst photo on earth, or the sapphire is dang ugly.

The style is popular though. There are some people in the RJ thread that also posted their Princess Diana style rings, and I'm sure if you search on "Princess Diana style ring," you'll find other examples in the SMTR thread too.

My mother has a similar style sapphire ring (encircled by a halo of prong set diamonds) that was passed down to her from her late grandfather. Unfortunately, it was stolen or I would have requested to borrow the ring for photography purposes. I guess this style must have been around for quite some time.

Unfortunately I have one. I hate it. The sapphire is ok (but photographs very badly) but is not anything other than mediocre. It was one of the first sapphires I ever bought. Then Princess Diana came along and I hated the ring even more (not a fan of hers)!

I've got a more modern version that I prefer (first photo)

Here's the offending item (second photo) and the one I prefer!

Sorry Lovingdiamonds, I actually really like it. Boyfriend and dad have September birthdays, and I think its pretty.

I must be in the minority because I love the style! Diana's not so much...I'd love to see more photos from members here. Sorry, I'm new and a gem junkie.

Have to agree :twirl:

Well, LovingDiamonds, if you aren't fond of it, and a couple of us are, why not list it and put the funds towards another of your neat projects?

I like the style, and <ducking> I like the inky sapphire look. I definitely wouldn't want all of my sapphires to be that color, but I think it's interesting.

I must say, LD, I really like it as well. It's got clean lines and the stone is a beautiful color. Of course, if it doesn't work for you then it just doesn't ;))

Sorry for that slight threadjack, reader.

No apologizes necessary, and I happen to agree with you!

The gal with the Egyptian sounding name(begins with S) who likes ancient Egyptian jewellery has one. She posts on the Royals thread. There are pictures on PS of it somewhere.

LD, and I like your ring, too. Actually, very much. Is that what you'd call a "learning stone"? :D

LD your ring is not so bad. With cluster style I would prefer a wider halo (bigger but fewer diamonds, OECs).

I'm a big fan of her ring (style wise) but not her sapphire (too dark for my taste).

I do have one, thanks Chrono. I've always loved the style of Diana's ring and was spurred on by Lost Sapphire's beauty.

Catmom - you have exquisite taste and your ring knocks spots of Princess Diana's horrible ring. I'd wear yours with pride!

I think Diana got her ring from Asprey's of London. If I remember correctly, they presented her with a tray of rings, and she picked the most expensive one out. Too bad she didn't have Pricescope to teach her what a good sapphire looks like!! LOL!

Not to mention we could have got her a much cheaper deal! :naughty:

Too bad we couldn't get her a better husband. Poor thing.

But look on the positive side .......... that family have a serious jewellery collection! You could wash the dishes wearing a different tiara every day! :naughty:

(Apologies for the threadjack)

This family has a serious problem with future ruler, not with jewelry collection! He wanted to be a tampon a spend his life in his current wive's trousers. Can you imagine Britain being ruled by a tampon?

Sorry for threadjack and accept my apologies and condolences, LD.
