Somebody's Gotta Buy This Piece!

Ha. I meant they didn’t look like rose cut to me but I trust you more

Oh, sorry, I didn't catch your meaning. They sort of look rose cut to me, but they also sort of just look poorly cut. TRR's photos are often so poor, including in this case, it can be nearly impossible to tell until the item is in your hands.

Yeah, their photos are lousy and so rarely give you a good look at the stones. From the photos, they don't look like rose cuts to me, but who knows.

I think someone bought it and returned it. Those pears are more like rose cuts.

It was me. The pears are pretty much rose cuts...

Aargh somebody buy this. Two 6.3 mm diamonds. That’s probably about 2cttw. Gorgeous platinum setting. Size 5.

So the seller reached out to let me know they re-measured the stones prior to shipping the ring to the authenticator and the main stones are measuring 5.9-6.0mm, not 6.3. They asked if I still wanted the ring. I told them I was still interested, but I did ask them to confirm no visible carbon before shipping. Would have preferred 6+mm, but I'm still comfortable with the price I paid at this size, long as they're fairly clean.

Will that mess things up with the authenticator since the listing said 6.3 even though they just now told you otherwise? I hope not!

I bought this! I had been watching it also and it felt so cheap when the price dropped! Hopefully I love it as it was final sale…:lol-2:

@bee24 have you received this yet?

Yes seems to me that calcelijng the sale and delisting with the new specs for you to buy might save time in the long run.

Too bad about the measurements. That puts them around .80 each. But even at asking that was a good price.

@Mreader and @Dreamer_D No idea, but I've had 2 interactions with the authenticators recently, with different results.
One was for an item marked 14k that they said was testing lower than 14k, and they asked if I wanted to continue with the purchase anyway. I said yes. All good.
The other item I could tell the seller was trying to skirt the authenticators a bit but still provided some useful info in the description, both estimated color/clarity as well as rough dimensions on the stones. I got a message that the item did not pass authentication and my purchase was canceled and I would be fully refunded, which I was. They gave me no info whatsoever on what aspects of the item didn't pass inspection. The seller has now relisted the item and removed the color/clarity notes. I have reached out to the seller 3 times now with questions and requesting additional/clearer photos, and they have not responded to me at all, so I'm very wary to proceed as it's final sale.

Btw, seller of the Traub ring claims you need a loupe to see any inclusions, so I hope she's right.

Interesting! When one item I bought did not pass authentication I called eBay and they told me why

@Mreader Yes! I literally just came on to post! I think it’s quite fun and I love the shape. The stones are quite bright! TRR said it was a size 5 which is my pinky but it is actually a 5.5 which is a bit disappointing. I’ve added some silicone sizer spirals. I love the look… though perhaps it is not great w my three stone…
So do we think I can pull off a pinky ring? Maybe I just also need a pointer ring for balance ha!

@bee24 It's lovely! What about putting it on your other pinky?

I didn't know that was a thing you could do!

I was dying to know. So I called them up and they were able to put me on hold and look up the notes of GIA. So if it hasn’t been that long, you should give it a try!

It’s so cute! The stones look bright indeed. You need to post in the TRR treasures thread. :)

It was 11 days ago. Do you think that's too long?

ETA: Ok I called eBay! Got a really nice rep, and they looked up the notes. Per the authenticators, the clarity on all 3 stones in the brooch were "out of tolerance", and the piece is stamped PT950 but tested PT900. I don't care about the PT, but the info on the clarity is helpful.

@bee24 I really like it! You could wear it next to your three stone and maybe just add a plain band to the pointer? Or wear it in the other hand. I wear a pinky ring next to my three stone with and without any other balancing rings and I like the look so I don’t think it needs anything.

They are so wonderful. They also note chips in the stones that are not disclosed.

Just to vent the stamped one thing tests another is irritating and something I wish they would change. The accepted fine metal tolerances for antique jewelry was different when the pieces were being made so it seems that they should not be held to the standards of currently made jewelry. Mixtures were often made in house and could vary within the same piece when tested in different areas. If prongs have been retipped in 14k instead of platinum or a ring was resized at some point in its life in white gold instead of platinum it can be rejected even if it is 96% original Platinum. GIA is most probably using a Xray machine to test which are thousands of dollars to purchase. Even my gemologist appraiser does not have that equipment. Her electronic tester tests for 10k/14k/18k or Platinum - with no indicator for degree of platinum. This is one of the reasons you might see very little details in the listings for estate jewelry now. The average seller does not have the equipment necessary to list with eBay. YET you will see tons of listings from India or China claiming natural diamonds using stolen photos of antique pieces from Jewels by Grace and other recognizable sellers when there is absolutely no way their product will resemble the stolen photos they use. Beware of anything listed right under the $500 mark since that means they don't have to be authenticated. Using the term "diamond moissanite" absolutely sets me off as it is a deliberate attempt to confuse those who don't know better.
I think that I read the tolerance for diamonds is one grade but I can not find the information right now, if I do find it I will post it.
