Somebody's Gotta Buy This Piece!

Geez, is my memory fooling me or didn't PS have some kind of anti flipping rule at one point? Would that apply to someone checking here and then snapping up a "find" only to resell? I haven't check the rules but I do have a faint memory. Maybe it only applied to things listed in "Pre-loved"?

It’s my etsy page for anyone wondering. Fwiw, I didn’t buy anything to resell that I hadn’t already found myself, nor would I. It’s just a fun side hobby i’d been thinking about for awhile. I’m sorry if anyone is offended by it. I’ve posted things here too just for sharing sake. A lot of us with this hobby look in the same places.

Hugs! I think that’s perfectly valid ❤️

EBay is fair game and you wouldn’t be the first bling lover to become a vendor ❤️

If you're selling for any kind of profit, I think you need to register as a trade member. You can look here for guidelines: https://www.pricescope.com/content/forum-policies

Aren't there different posting rules for vendors, like a trade designation and using real name? At what point does one cross the line and become a "vendor?"

My understanding is it happens if you sell things for a profit. Or work for someone who does. And yes, you have to change how you post and declare your status!

That is only for posting things in Preloved.

I think you’re right. For me there’s a difference between poaching and dabbling.

Totally agree-it would be annoying if someone was lurking on this thread to buy for profit. But I don’t think an Etsy store with a three items necessarily constitutes “trade.”

Also, let’s say you bought a gold necklace 20 years ago and you need to sell it to fund a project. If you sell it for closer to the new gold price, does that make you trade?

I can think of one long time member, who glued some pearls. She ended up getting labeled trade for selling silver coin jewelry and stopped participating on PS all together. She had a great eye and collection. I miss her.

If anyone is looking for a pearl cage, Pawn America has one at a great price:

My hero! I’ve been looking for something like this for a gorgeous pearl I got from @yssie

Thanks @lala646 !

Folks, ALWAYS make sure to do a reverse image search when you're looking at antique jewelry.

I had this locket saved on my Ebay wishlist

And just realized I also have it on my Etsy list, and it's much cheaper there.

Why the price difference? Because the Ebay listing is a scam. Always, always, do as much research as you can before you smash that Buy button.

OMG, I just was pitched that wonderful locket on eBay as “a related item I might be interested in”. The item was literally suggested to me. So you’re thinking one vendor doesn’t actually have the item? Will check it out.

On a related note, speaking for myself to the community, I don’t want the items I find and post here to be easy pickings for people who are flipping. One of my foundational beliefs is that all humans should have access to beautiful things that give them joy. Antique jewelry gives us joy. My reason to be here is to help someone else have an opportunity to own special historical jewelry. And I enjoy that others are caretaking treasures from the past.

THOUGH - It’s ok to make a living, and even sell your pieces even at a small profit IMO.

We do seem to have quite a few tattletales, don't we?

Silly question: when someone like the eBay seller posts a fake listing, what is the point? Doesn't eBay protect the buyer and issue a refund so the scammer isn't paid?

I KNOW this is an expensive piece but that said I think it's a great price for what it is, i was shopping for a looooong time for my art deco bracelet and if i didnt already buy mine, i would have bought this:

My assumption is, since it's "shipping" from France, and doesn't go through authentication, buy the time the buyer receives the piece, the seller has already been paid by eBay. How does eBay then claw back the $?

Or maybe they would buy the real piece from the Etsy seller, have it shipped to the buyer, and just pocket the difference?

But you'll note that the items the seller has listed are all "shipping" from different countries. France, Turkey, Ukraine, Poland. And all the listings stolen from other sellers.

Yet under "about" by that seller, it shows location as Israel.

Im glad it was pointed out, honestly. I would say it was being protective of the PS family rather than "tattling". As newtojewels said it goes against "the spirit of this thread" - it would suck if vendors were just stalking this thread to swipe bargains we all come across. So, vendors know we're paying attention... lol!

I am a HUGE big fan of capitalism, you find a deal and want to flip it, knock yourself out!! I am all for that... But that said, dont grab stuff others found to share HERE for this family and use this as your personal garage sale, KWIM?? Just my 2 cents

I wants it! (imagine me saying this in my Gollum voice) :lol-2:

$400.00. Somebody please steal this.

I nabbed it, even though I'm poor. And still fat. :lol-2: It just arrived and it is SO pretty! It's sweet and shiny, but needs a good scrubbing. I'll worry about the size later.

@Inked BTW, when I mentioned tattletales, I was referring to all the forums, not just this thread. I completely agree that snagging stuff we post just to sell it at a pretty profit is not cool.
