Somebody's Gotta Buy This Piece!

Thank you for all the tips,
I saw a rose cut platinum eternity with miligrain on Augustus (Etsy) a week ago, newly posted. It was a size bigger than I need (I am 6.25 ish), I paused and it sold. :(. I will buy ANY next thing I see that is priced at my level, now that I know how hard they are to find.

It was the first antique Edwardian (extremely fine metal craftsmanship/prongs/design detail with two French punch stamps) rose cut eternity in platinum I’ve seen. So interesting because the same style with single cut eternity bands are fairly easy to find. I had been looking for an antique French cut band in a price that isn’t $4,500 per carat, and rose cut is even rarer to see in that Edwardian style. Priced accordingly except by Augustus who didn’t realize these things only were made in France for a couple decades, it seems. I think now he does, though he claims in France they are “not all that rare”! I asked.

For anyone who hasn’t seen, French cuts in this size are extremely lively. I converted my search immediately when I saw Augustus’ video. They reflect light off large facets from the surface of the diamond not the interior. Antique French cuts are more subtle, Single cuts I love but I wanted a bigger facet flash, so I’m venturing into looking for this other rare style.

Does anyone have a white gold antique ring 1920s maybe from Europe? What is the metal content does anyone know? does it cause you allergies? There’s a modest half band out there, but I’m nickle sensitive so I hesitate….

One other thing I’m noticing in searching different countries, which I’d love more knowledge about, is historical. Europe seems to have had a healthy system of jewelry designers and craftsmen from the Napoleanic and Georgian eras onwards. Europe also had access to abundant jewels, diamonds and metals as reflected in the jewelry of that time. The peak of technical artistry and abundant raw materials was IMO Belle Epoque. The ring style I’m looking for is at the late end of Belle Epoque, very rare. I think WWI destroyed the jewelry industries. Art Deco period was a rebound with the high end pieces catering to the economic class profiting off the wars, but the metals and jewels weren’t as diverse. Style was more industrial. I would love to take a college course on how jewelry styles reflect historical social trends, resources, and even trade routes!

Steven Kirsh! Old cut!

I saved this ring when I saw it because it looks a lot like my engagement ring (the 3rd remake using the same center stone and my dream design!). It's amazing because I designed it myself so I was glad to see it was not as crazy as I sometimes think it is!

I love this so much but it's too small for me.

It is so pretty! I was thinking you and I were pretty similar in size so surprised it wouldn't work for you.

It would fit me I have just have too many vintage bands already.

THANK YOU!!!!! Omg this is my wedding date and it is the perfect size … I am so happy right now, I’m in tears. Thank you so much ❤️

Not exactly vintage but what a dream. They don't list the Cartier size though only the circumference.

They usually sell items from other resale sites (this one is from Rebag). This is what they usually use for size 16 measurements. I have no idea why they don't post the size (even on their own website).

Hi, thanks for asking.

It is very similar to theone at this link, with miligrain etc.

However the one Augustus listed seemed genuinely antique because instead of prongs (like the one here at the link) it had lifted metal bent over to set the stones, and instead of round “A jour” openings (like the one at the link) it had cut out squares. I’m going to be honest, I’ve never seen a French platinum Edwardian piece with circular a jour before. Please correct me anyone if you have!

This one I’m posting might be later, but I think it’s still pretty, just questionable dating, too small size and high price. The one I saw from Augustus was definitely turn of the last century. It also had two French stamps on the shank, an eagle head for platinum and what was said to be a maker’s mark.

This one is very pretty but I did not realize that rose cut eternities are now commanding as high prices as French cuts and are even rarer.

Ah ok gotcha I figured there was a conversion somewhere but I've never looked. My 17 is a bit loose but I don't think I would go down to a 16. It is funny though that these sell higher now than what they were new.

I tried to look for a Tiffany metro rose cut a while back and found one in platinum in my size but the price was staggering. They were willing to come down a couple of hundred dollars but no more. I just gave up.

Here's minereceived_883040192191363.jpeg19th century, tsarist Russia. Super rare and beautiful piece. Somehow it survived through the revolution. $50 000

Where is that video already? I wanna see how she compares to Maxine, her SGBTP transitional sister!

BTW Dreamer, I'm Canadian too! :mrgreen2:

She is on her way back to TheRealReal, so will be up for grabs again soon! I decided to keep saving for a tennis bracelet.
She is GORGEOUS and incredibly white, to my eyes.
Sorry for the shaky video! It was a very windy day.

Yes, the platinum rose cut bands are as expensive as French cuts! (Even while single cut and MRB cuts are often sub $1000. Up until recently I didn’t realize rose cuts were put into eternity style rings during the Edwardian period. I think this was done only in France. There are some modern rings being made in moissy or lab diamond, but I had my heart set on an antique…. I will just have to bide my time.

That is so very close. My quandary is it’s 18k white gold and I don’t know if the alloy will give me problems (I’m nickle and other metal sensitized). Platinum not as much.

Does anyone have any experience with wearing French white gold or know what they put in their alloy at that time?

Thanks so much, this is super close. I will review closely it’s really gorgeous.
