Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

I've been busted (posted was edited) for looking like a shill for GOG.
Admin has told me that appearing like a shill can actually hurt the vendor you love.
I see their point and am not arguing with moderators.

Wow- that's too bad. It's a shame when posts are edited which are meant to be helpful.

I saw that gem earlier today and thought how pretty it was-but it was already reserved. I had wondered what the cost was- that was a great deal! Wish I could say it was me that dabbed it. :Up_to_something:

I don't want to belabor the point, Kenny, but how is your posting stones any different than anyone else here posting stones we think are a good value or warrant attention? Isn't that the purpose of the thread? Is it just that you only recommend one source? I have nothing but respect for the admins, and believe that whatever their rational, it must be logical.

Edited for omissions

That's why I also wrote this, "Since I check newborns daily, I think in the future I WILL post new FCDs that seem like nice picks.
Isn't that the point of this thread ,,, to help out our friends?"

I obviously pay close attention, don't I?

I clearly don't understand what happened, but I don't need to - I'm just happy to hear that you will post the newborns.

There are WAY too many threads, posters and fora here at PS to stay on top of everything.
I don't even try.

;))

I think this brownish pink pear looks like a nice buy. It could make a lovely pendant in rose gold with white diamond halo. I'm definitely still learning so please share what I'm overlooking if its not in fact worth considering.

That is really pale to the point it looks umm....colourless.

Oh, you're right (of course). I just looked at it on my computer and it just looks a little dirty! In the dark on my phone (while nursing my baby) it had a nice pale pink look. This is not the first time I've had to remind myself not to judge color seen in the dark! The fire time involved sending some gems back to Thailand! Whoops! I'll learn some time. Colored stones are fascinating but the learning curve could get expensive!

Looks like there is a third party in this story, who may still give up on MY lovely stone.

So just got an email saying I got the cab. Promise I'll give you dibs though!

So, how is the cab? Did you share any pictures? If so, I think I missed them!

Your post made me laugh, since I was there last year - nursing a baby, in the dark, looking at gems on my phone, on an expensive learning curve!

That Montana Sapphire is beautiful, the cut and color look top notch. No surprise it's already sold.

Starzin,
Isn't SLP the Thailand lab that no one seems to be able to find and confirm it exists? I thought two vendors or collectors in Thailand tried to verify its existence but weren't able to. I'd also be highly suspicious of an IF or flawless gemstone to be a synthetic, especially in padparadscha sapphires.

Ah...that makes sense. I wasn't actually putting any store by that "certificate" it's always buyer beware and we say it often enough that there are very few recommended labs. Good catch! But the photo is enticing ;))

My experience on the losing side of an SLP lab report is that they have no qualms claiming things, like heat treatment only, when in reality, they have no right to make such claims. Even if it's not a synthetic, it is likely diffused. At least that's what happened when I bought a padparadscha from another vendor who "used" the SLP lab. SLP was ver clear that it was only heated. I sent it to GIA and they confirmed that it was diffused with foreign elements, and I was able to send it back to the vendor.

Since that time, SLP has been mentioned in several threads here - so proceed with caution!

I once bought a pretty inexpensive Chrome Tourmaline and asked the vendor for a cert (I did pay for the cert). At the time, I wasn't aware of the different reputations of the various labs. I got an SLP lab report...which stated that it was "Natural Chrome Tourmaline with no indication of heat"

There were red flags...both, when I read about SLP reports being suspect, and the fact that they are stating that it is an unheated Chrome Tourmaline. I wasn't aware that Chrome Tourmaline was ever heated---correct me if I am wrong.

So, I went and had the stone tested by someone reputable. It just so happened that the stone WAS a Chrome Tourmaline, so in my case the stone was as advertised (and of course unheated since Chrome T isn't heated normally). I dont know if I was just lucky--and that the vendor was offering a real chrome stone....or, if the lab actually did test the stone for Chrome.

Either way--I am still very skeptical of a lab where I cannot find any proof of its existance. LOL

Chris: I'm curious to know what you did to ascertain its existence?

TIA.

At least you both did what a wary buyer should and that is check with a reputable lab, so that while Minou may have been disappointed and returned the stone for a refund, Chris was able to keep a stone he liked. One of the reasons I guess that we always recommend certain labs.

Minou, I could not find anything online that confirmed that they are an actual lab, have actual test equipment, nothing. The contacts I know in Thailand in the industry know nothing about them, either. Steer clear is what I say, but thats just my opinion.

Such a happy pleasant colour that is sure to make the new owner's day.

That is so yummy I could eat it right up!

Anyone check out the video of this stone? The photos of it look nice but the video of the stone makes the color look quite different - could be the lighting or background?

Kenny, any opinions on this particular stone and comments on the the photos vs video? Always love reading your posts with regards to FCD's and oogling at your collection :)

Interesting- I hadn't looked at the video- usually their pictures are "spot on". Based on the video-if that's what it looked like IRL rather than the pictures-I'd be very disappointed.

I had the same thought :?

It's a good thing there's a video to "see" the FCD's performance. It's certainly unexpected and I'd always observed that Leibish's photography was quite good. I suppose not everyone is able to nail the colour down perfectly every time.
