Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

Beautiful greens. Are you keeping both green FCDs? Or is the one below from your collection?

Thanks Chrono. While they are both beautiful, my current thought is to make the bottom stone a part of my collection. For some reason the fancy green seems to be a bit more eye catching than the fancy intense bluish green when compared side to side.

I agree with you, given the choice, my eye is more drawn to the green over the blue green, even though the lower FCD is "only" Fancy and the above FCD is a Fancy Intense.

The 0.40 Fancy Green cushion is sold.
Did you buy it?

I agree, the bottom stone is far more striking. I love it! :appl:

Yeah I think it's a keeper. But, I'm still in love with your green

Thanks justginger! Will try to take some better pics, but I have terrible photography skills.

I hemmed and hawed over that JW emerald. So clean, bright and untreated but ultimately, decided it is too light for me. It is a beauty though.

I got his gemscoop, but for some reason, could not link to any of his photos, so I didn't get to see any of the stones, though by the description alone, that is the one I was curious about. Great description, but not an inexpensive stone.

double post...

How much for the JW Emerald?

The emerald's gorgeous, but at nearly $10k for a 1.5ct stone the colour, cut and clarity need to be at least that good. That spinel, on the other hand, is pretty reasonably priced....

I don't know, I would worry that the photo of that spinel has been slightly modified to up the saturation somewhat. How does it look on the video, and can you see whether bright light is shining directly on it in the video?

Lisa Elser has a beautiful Columbian emerald that is bigger at 2.57 cts, and cheaper. I saw it once in person and remember it being quite a stunner.

That spinel of Jeff Davies' looks like a really nice colour, but in the video, I wondered about half/half extinction? Maybe I'm just paranoid about that, though, so I see it where there is none.

Here's a pic of the Lisa Elsner one since I looked it up. I'm not as fond of the color but good to know its good in real life.

Please somebody buy this stone, so I can stop trying to figure out how Im going to pay for it...since I've just bought a blue Spinel from Pre-Loved, which hasn't arrived yet....

This one looks really nice..if you're like me and you like your stones a little on the darker side and very well cut....

I had my eye on it the first time Jeff listed it a few weeks ago. But it was quickly removed. And I read somewhere that you just returned a violet shifting spinel then this one showed up again. I thought you bought this :cheeky: I am trying to buy a over 2ct blue spinel too, and I love love the cutting! But I like stones a little lighter than medium-dark so...

I just don't understand why he feels a need to punch up the saturation on his pics, as you can see in the tweezers. It overstates the color of the gem and can lead to disappointment when it arrives. I also think his video pics might be better than a photo like that where its flooded with light. That all said, it could be a very pretty stone! :praise:

Now that I look at the video, I see that it is dark and would likely be a stone that has sparks of beautiful blue color, but will mainly read as dark. :blackeye:

Its a beauty, of that I am sure...just no funds to by another one...

OTL, I did buy and return one, but not that one. I took a chance on an Emerald-Cut Spinel, the one Beau-way has just listed, and it was a nice stone, but I just don't like Emerald cuts at all...even if they have perfect color. Its just personal preference....I would have loved that stone if it was anything other than an Emerald cut, except for maybe a Pear or a Heart, which I also don't care for.

I agree, it's priced low for a reason and unfortunately that reason is likely attributed to how dark it is. Nevertheless a very nice, large stone.

HI all,

I am not sure of what I am allowed to say do here, but having read this and other posts on this forum, there seems to a lot of uncertainty regarding photos/videos. I apologise in advance if I am over stepping what I am allowed to do here, but I feel a response is needed to perhaps help clarify.

Photos and videos are taken using cold daylight fluorecents, one overhead strip and 2 small side lights( I can post a photo of the set up if anyone wants to see?), photo enhancement is minimal, removal of dust and slight tweaking of over or under exposure. Camera equipment is sophisticated and expensive and will not be replicated with an iphone! A 180mm macro lens gives an image that is hugely magnified, it is of course going to look different in real life, because in reality it is smaller and your eyes are not as powerful as the lens, the videos are there for that purpose, taken from a larger distance to try and give some perspective. It is bad business to deceive by over enhancing photos and a practice that I have no part in, that said, try and understand the difficulties in producing accurate photos that everyone will accept, they will always look different depending on screen resolution etc.

I have the original unedited files of most of my photos, anyone want to see? am I allowed to post them?

cheers

Jeff.

Hey Jeff,

I don't believe you're allowed to post the photos here - it's taken as advertising. You are, naturally, encouraged to do so on your own page - I'm sure plenty of people would enjoy seeing them :)

I think we'd all agree that it's not easy to take representative photos. Heck, I've disagreed about colour with someone who was standing in the same room looking at the stone on my hand - I saw violet where they saw a pure blue sapphire. The trouble is that generally sellers see the most desirable qualities of their stones, and take their photos accordingly. Speaking as a buyer, I appreciate any seller who consistently takes photos with the same setup and enhances very little or not at all. I'd rather see an unenhanced photo with a note that says "a little darker in person" than a saturation-enhanced retouched photo, and I know a lot of posters here are suspicious of vendors whose photos are consistently vibrant, saturated stones in tweezers with an invisible background.

FWIW, I've bought several stones from Jeff that I felt were very well represented in the photos - I'm just a terrible photographer myself. I'll try to get some pics of them and throw 'em up in the sticky for opinions.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled drooling over fantastic CS 'opportunities'! :P

My biggest, and only real issue with this forum is that some posters, including and especially veterans, post opinions as fact. Not trying to call anyone out specifically, because there is a lot of good provided by these posters, but how can you accuse someone like Jeff of manipulating photo saturation? Are you in the lab standing next to Jeff? How is that even in his best interests, as he accepts returns if you are unhappy? I feel that his stones are displayed accurately, in optimal lighting conditions, and are consistent with every stone he posts.

Let's face it, there are plenty of unscrupulous vendors out there, but I think its fairly obvious to spot them...you know when you see that bright blue sapphire for $80, or even $8..something is wrong there. Jeff is not in that category....

Ha! Glad to see someone else can love this demantoid!

OTL: aren't those both the ones you bought, or just the bluish green elongated cushion?
