Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

I, too, was interested in the stone and was very close to buying it. But I disagree with CC--while I am huge on cutting, I love all the cutters...it was the color of the stone that got me. Its that perfect blue-green Tourmaline that doesn't come around that often...at least, not for me. LOL.

I passed on it due to the fracture. Its 'unsettable' in my opinion. I was trying to decide if it was worth buying knowing that it would be a collector piece for me..but in the end, for me..it was not. It is an unfortunate thing that happened, but I have a feeling if that stone didnt have the fracture, it would not be anywhere near even the $300 original asking price.

I think this is a fair and likely accurate statement. All I can think is that if Jeff says its okay, then it must be.

As to buying it, I guess we need someone who would buy with no burning desire to set it; or an intrepid and seasoned setter who would not be scared off by this little problem! Whoever you are, please step forward, we want some more photos!

Ok thanks guys for the advice. I'm glad because it confirmed my initial gut feeling.

For me too, it was all about the color. I was on the listing and drooling over then pics before I ever noticed the Jeff White note. This is the exact blue green shade I've been looking for in a stone. Ah well.

This is the case where the clarity is the reason for the low price. If not for that, the excellent colouration and precision cutting would price this a whole lot higher. That fracture is the the risk the new buyer must be prepared to accept and with skill and ingenuity, set in such a way whereby attention is not called to it.

Well, I'll out myself! I am the buyer of this gorgeous stone! My plans are to set it with either baguette diamonds or baguette white sapphires running north to south along the sides (think Art Deco), set in w/gold.

I'm not worried about the fracture because Jeff has indicated that he thinks it's stable and so long as the setting process is kind to it, it should be ok. If not, well, I've lost $200 and will be sad. If it survives, I'll be able to enjoy a scrummy ring!

A big thank you to Staci94 for selling it to me.

Wow, can't want to see this stone project done!

Yay!!!! :appl:

I would've set it the same way, so IMO, it went to the right person!

Yahoo! It's a gorgeous color & cut. Your plans for it sound deeeelicious!

Thanks guys and apologies to Jereni for pipping you to the post but it sounded as if you'd discounted it anyway?

I've just bought two small baguette diamonds for the sides but need two a little bigger (around 6x2) but this is a difficult size to find. Anyway, I've got a couple of vendors on the lookout for me! So this may turn into a 5 stone ring - we'll see!

I am so excited that a PSer got it, and I also would have set it exactly as you are planning to :-)

So excited to see it when you are done!

Thank you Jereni - unfortunately I won't be completing the project until the summer because I won't see my jeweller until then :(sad

This really caught my eye. (You can see I'm on an orange streak!) By sharing it I hope someone will buy it so I won't be tempted any more. 130125_articist_cut_gem_spess_cab_617_ct__395.jpg

Now I have to check out pinterest and see how they set these sugarloafs.

Here is the url if you want to see the additional photos. Reminds me of a tangerine. :appl:

Beautiful colour but looks opaque? Maybe the stone is too reflective to photograph well? Sugarloaves are set the same way as flat backed cabochons. I think Megeve has a set of sugarloaf stackers.

Orange candy is my favorite!

Chrono, it is opaque.... has shimmery look in most photos that is attracting me these days. Silly me, I googled megeve and found a jeweler based in... Switzerland? Anyway I realized you meant on ps and saw the stackers. Soooo pretty! Thanks. (I need more coffee).

Minous, orange lifesavers are my fave and so are creamsicles.

Oh goodness, that orange is just YUM. Unfortunately I've learned that I love orange on my computer screen, but not on my finger. :nono:

Okay, that's pretty funny, but for all the years that I have been looking for this stone, I've never stopped to think about whether I'd like it on my hand...and the answer is probably not!

Count me in as another who doesn't look good in orange clothes or jewellery but I love orange flavoured sweets.

Yep - another one here who doesn't like in on her hand! I'm dark haired and fairly dark skinned so you would think it would look okay but it just doesn't!

Justginger - you may need to change your name :D If you can't wear orange we may have to call you Justfuscia or something! x

You gals kill me!

I have dark hair and medium skin..... already wear a silver and orange enamel ring (Go Vols!!!) and I distinctly remember wearing a bright orange pantsuit when I was a kid.... I guess I should give in and buy this orange gum drop! :lickout:

Wowza! I think I've been hanging around your posts too much because my first thought was "Only $11.8k? Thats a good deal!"

Me too! Then, I converted $12k into work hours and fainted.

Yup, natural FCDs in certain colors are priced through the roof. ;(

This may be the juiciest FCD color I've seen.

Even at $11,800 for 0.13 ct I don't think this little guy will last long.

LOL- this is the exact stone I was talking about in the "random comments" thread in Hangout. Aviva emailed me when they received it to tell me it made her think of me, and offered first dibs. I very sadly had to turn it down. :nono: With uni expenses and decreased earning this year, I don't know where my finances will be, so had to be a "grown up." I told her that I already knew it would be a stone I regret passing up. ;(

Omg, the color of that diamond is heavenly!!!! Swoon.

LD, it does sound like you'd be a perfect orange-wearer, shame it doesn't work out for you.

I will work on a new name. Perhaps I will have to change to something like gingersnaps or gingerbread, to avoid the color implications.

I'm extremely tempted to purchase this ring and do a recycle special similar to Kelpies (??- who was the PSer that redid their dover ring??)

Anyhow I'm not a huge fan of the color but I think the price is allright if it actually is what it is. Being that it is from Dover I would have it checked out ASAP. I notice their return window is now only 3 days vs. 10 days ( 30 days on their website...or at least that is what it used to be).

Current price is 1k.
