I know, I have a soft spot for grossular garnets...did you end up getting it?
I just impulsively bought this one from Gary...

I didn't get it, I have a mint garnet from Dana that I am not in love with and haven't set....so I am hesitant to buy another.

I love your new stone though!!!!

Totally with you. I have to restrain myself when I see a mint garnet, telling myself "you already have 2..."

Finally back on duty! It is not often that a Jeff White stone is resold. His cutting is impeccable and sophisticated. For likely less than $300, you can buy this 2.76 ct greenish blue tourmaline. Normally, I would say that's a lot to pay for a tourmaline, but its Jeff White! You are definitely paying for the artistry on this one...

Next up: aren't we always looking for spinels? This one of Jeff Davies definitely has potential: eye clean 2.40ct Burma Spinel. 9.61 x 6.57 x 4.42mm. Appears well cut (his typically are) $245. If the photo is true to life, the stone is very pretty - a saturated, pinkish purple. I would definitely ask for a hand shot and ask whether the photo is accurate for tone and saturation. If it is, you know what I want to say! :naughty: :naughty:

Love both of those but the video of the spinel shows it to be really dark. :(sad

Sorry, my bad - full disclosure: I did not watch the video before I posted the stone. I apologize, am flogging myself despite my bad back, and will do better in the future!

As for the tourmaline, here is the working link: http://www.diamondbistro.com/index.php?a=2&b=33165

You're so funny Minou. Stop flogging this instant - we need you to continue scouring the internet for pretty stones!

I was going to post a stone here but someone bought it before I could.
Damn you, Vapid!

Would someone buy this please? I keep looking at it, and I could theoretically afford it, but I probably shouldn't. So can someone else buy it so I can live vicariously through you? I love the high crown and the description of the dispersion has me really intrigued...thanks, you're a mensch (or the female equivalent).

Oh, I get it! You bought it!!! Some of us are a little slow first thing in the morning... ;))

Please show us pics of this special stone!

I did!

That's very unusual like a 2 sided stone or as described, ET's mode of transport.

Yes, Vapid, excellent job! :appl:

Now as punishment for buying it out from under yourself, it falls on you to post the next SGBTS stone...c'mon now, chop, chop, don't keep us all waiting! :praise: :saint:

Do you think anyone would mind if I ate that opal? :lickout: :cheeky: Talk about orangey goodness! In an asscher no less!

If that fire opal were a little bigger, I'd have put it right on my own plate. Yum yum.

Another from R2R, cut by Jim Rentfrow. Neon Mint/tsavo 10.13 x 7.33 x 4.72, 2.45 ct. From dimensions, it's shallow no window, natch from Jim. Description says it's slightly greener than pic. Wish I had the $$ right now. Somebody adopt it, please!

I do not believe the no window claim, and think fancy light set up made the photo plus close bright reflections from under pavilion.
and quite pricy despite!
But the strangest thing is that your post brought to consciousness that I dreamed last night I was staying for the summer in a beachfront house at the end of long island which in the dream was actually olde buttonwoods r.i.
How these things are related, even in my troubled mind, I have no idea.

Interesting garnet and I would be interested in a less dressed up photograph of it. Even if not windowed, I would think the shallowness would make the tilt window show at a smaller angle than expected.

But it is a thousand dollars a carat!!!

Price of well saturated mint garnets with a blue modifier has gone up significantly which surprised even me when I was shopping around for one early last year. As an example, an oval I looked at from PrimaGems was going for over $1000 / ct for a 2.7 ct mint garnet. It was strongly saturated with a medium light tone.

Good point about a tilt window, Chrono. All 3 photos showed strong light/flash reflection, so I copied only one. Makes it impossible to see the stone really clearly. There were no side or pavilion shots, which would have been interesting to see. I'm always looking at mint garnets -- would LOVE to own one -- but they are increasingly pricey.

In the 3rd photo it looks quite desaturated and has much more grey present. When I looked at the photo above I loved it but after seeing the other photos? It's not for me.

Minousbijoux,
Thanks so much for starting this excellent thread. As a PS newbie, I so enjoy seeing (and learning from) the beautiful finds you all post and comment on in this thread.

Ok...so I actually saw this on loupe troop within an hour of its posting and wrote the seller about it. I love the color so much it's crazy, but the fracture in the stone gives me pause. Something like that could get worse, right? The seller's response was that Jeff said the fracture 'should not be a problem (depending on the way it's set of course).'

I'm so torn though. Would you buy it? Need advice.

If I should take this to another thread just say the word.

meh. Maybe without the fracture. My sense is that you would be paying for pedigree on this stone. I think if it were not a Jeff White stone we wouldn't be talking about it. Just my newbie $0.02
