Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

Um, isn't color king in colored stones? You say you're not so fond of the color, but it is big and a good price. I ask you, wouldn't that only give you a larger swatch of a color you are not fond of? Even if you scrap out the gold and sell the diamonds on the bistro, you will still have a stone the color of which is not what you want.

Do you mean Kismet's? I love that remodel of hers. But I wonder too why you would want to if you're not a big fan of the color? Are you thinking of making something gorgeous to go with your bracelet? :naughty:

How can a person even check out a stone in three days to make sure it is what they say it is? :?: :?: :?:

I already have an emerald in my top color so if I bought it I would just make a fun ring out of it. Just because it isn't my favorite color of green doesn't make it ugly by any means. I think it is pretty, but I digress. I posted as I know other Psers happen to like lighter emeralds so if anyone is interested I threw it out there. My version of top color can be totally different to aother person VL.

Thank you MIn! Yes it was Kismet's beautiful ring. I just love how the high ct yellow gold shows off the color! What an amazing recycle project. If I were truly in the market for another emerald I would buy this and do a fab recycle on it.

Look likes the emerald ring sold. I only wish it had been an ugly setting so that the price had been lower, then it could be recycled by moi.

Please Sarah - tell us either you bought it or you decided against it! I don't want to think a lurker when after it because of your interest. :blackeye: :nono:

I am curious too! I thought that was a lovely emerald myself and my son was born in May (look at me finding excused to buy an emerald!) so I would love an emerald one day.
I couldn't swing that price myself and thought the setting was nice enough to keep but not my style, but a waste to scrap and recycle-- I too would prefer an uglier setting to scrap!

Nope I didn't buy it or bid on it (if I had you better believe I wouldn't have posted in on PS till the auction was OVER!). Perhaps if I didn't have 2 other large projects that I just got last week I might have thought more seriously about it. Really on the colored stone front my next big project will be a large sapphire or a large pear shaped tsav...but those are way down the road from right not. My bling budget is pretty non existant.

Crikey I missed this about the emerald ring and have anxiously got down to the last post to see if you bought it and no you didn't. Phew! Not phew because of the colour but phew because this is NOT a Sarahbear stone. I suspect that IRL that stone would have been murky and wouldn't have performed at all. Your stones (and jewellery) are so far removed from that in terms of quality it's unreal so I am pretty convinced that had you been nutty enough to have bought it, you might have regretted it. I think you've had a narrow escape and a momentary lapse of clarity judgement!!!!!!! ;)

Excellent! I'm glad that you weighed in with your opinion of that stone, LD. Now if it was a lurker, take THAT, you lurker, you! :x

Wow, what is holding you back? That looks like a beautiful sapphire. The thing I would worry about it is whether its only heat treated, or whether it could possibly have more invasive treatment as well.

If you're like me and you like darker stones...this one is mesmerizing...

Ok, I realize the ring its in is hideous, but its the center stone that has me crazy. Its a 5.71ct Bluish-Purple Spinel. The pic is ok, but the video has me drooling.

That video had me laughing .............. false nails, natural nails, false nails ...............

The write up and video voice over had me rolling my eyes. I think I've done enough eye exercizes for a lifetime.
Vivid? Not even close
Untreated and unheated? Almost all spinels are. It is the exception for a spinel to be treated in any form or fashion
GIA certified? No such thing. GIA certifies nothing but provides a verification report. Spinels never need a report in the first place
World class? If that is the quality required to be called world class, then PSers' jewellery are far above world class
Why is it that just about every piece of jewellery from this store has the previous owner needing to liquidate their jewels?

I have a weak spot for purple sapphires and spinels, so I enjoyed the listing. Then I saw the video and enjoyed it in a completely different way. It was funny. I feel like making a parody of this video with a really crappy stone.

I think I'm the only one who liked the floating halo/diamonds look  . I don't like the shank.

I don't mind the setting either-- don't love it, wouldn't choose it myself, but I would wear it. The spinel is large and well cut, but the color is not great imo.

Make it 3 people who like that galactic setting for the spinel...now, will it look good? I'd have to try it on first!

Does anyone think it deceptive that the title is "6.52 ct spinel diamond ring" but the spinel is 5.71 ct and the balance from that total is the melee?
Also, an 8 x 10 spinel that is 5.71 carat?
yup, the depth is 98.2 %!

I noticed that they added ALL the carat weight together. Yes, it is very misleading to those who do not read or listen carefully. A 4 ct spinel is around 10 x 8 mm, so a 6 ct spinel should be 12 x 10 mm. Wow, it faces up very small for its weight!

Interesting comments yet nobody liked the stone except me, LOL.

Honestly, I was too focused on the stone to even pay attention to whatever was going on with the video (LD, nails) and I didnt have the sound on, so I had no idea what you all were talking about until I went back to listen to it. LOL.

The ct weight thing is DEFINATELY misleading!

But...we all like what we like. I'd love to have that stone! I thought the setting was hideous with those diamonds protruding like medusas snakes or something.

I love well saturated purple stones but that one is too dark for me; in low light I think it would disappear. Also noticed a fairly sizable tilt window in the vid. I'm with you on the setting, Chris -- HATE it! Ungraceful. At least the diamonds would be useful for a re-set. I noticed the discrepancy in ct. wt. too -- seem to see that more frequently lately, in fact. You need to read carefully w/some sellers. Well, all sellers, actually, duh!

I love the color of the center stone AND I like the setting. I would totally wear that beauty!

Their videos always make me laugh too. They will have, say, a near black tourmaline and say 'look at the bright, open colour!' from what I've seen though they do have some nice pieces...

I think a few places are combining the total gem weight to make it seem like the main stone's, but I suppose it's just one more annoying bit of deception. :(

I don't know what other people's experience with Jeff's stones are, but I bought an amethyst from him a while ago and while beautiful, it was quite a bit darker than the video. The trillion looks brilliant though so maybe it won't be a problem. Just something to bear in mind.

You raise a really good point. I do think that many vendors flood the stone with bright light and he is one that others have fairly regularly said the stones in hand were darker than his pics. I meant to add that one should definitely ask him many questions before purchase - is the color in the photo accurate? Does it black out? How would he describe the hue, tone and saturation...
