Somebody's Gotta Buy This Stone!

Agree with TL. Horribly picture quality and if he's asking that price, I think a video is a must too.

Melody,
What do you mean by "overpriced for the thickness of the stone". Are you saying the dome is too low or too high?

I was told by the owner of a local Jade shop, the ideal thickness for a 10 mm x 8 mm cab is 5 mm, if it was too thin, might be vulnerable to breakage.

The Jadeite is not very big, for a similar size, you can get better price.

The one with 8.6 x 7 x 3.7 is for sale at $1000.

The cab is very nice.

Ask your local jade dealer what he exactly sells.

Jadeite ( Nephrite too ) has a high tenacity! But often they use dyed chalcedon, serpentine, hydrogrossular etc.

My thinnest cabs of translucent moss in snow jadeite are two pears with around 1mm - 3,5 - 4 is thick enough. No problem!

I really hope that people are regularly checking our Preloved section because we have had some good deals there. This is one of them:
ILG's unheated 1.46 ct Purple Sapphire for $350/obo with AIGS brief. Good proportions and looks eye clean.

totally messaged her already. hopefully she lets me see it in person!

i saw a gray tourmaline on louptroop too. is that a good deal? i think the ring looks totally edgy.

Honestly, I don't know...I really don't know anything about the price of settings. But I can tell you what I look for. I think good bargains on LT and DB are when someone is selling a set piece for significantly less than what it would cost if you were trying to buy the stones and the setting new. (There are some exceptions - you'll rarely see an underpriced high quality blue sapphire, copper bearing tourmaline, or alexandrite due to their popularity and rarity). I am not a big follower of grey tourmaline but I bet there are others here who might be able to give you a better idea. :))

That is great color with an awesome shift, Minous! I would grab it if I didn't already have a shifty sapphire.

How's your world, Minous? It feels really bright and content from here. . . :)

So glad to hear it! Things are, all things considered, pretty darn good here! I am really trying to acknowledge the fact that life is just too short to worry!

I'm so happy you stopped by, iLander! Its incentive for me to post stones more often here. :naughty:

Thank you for posting my stone here Minou! Thanks for the compliments ilander. A really nice, longtime pser bought it - yay!

I didn't even know it was in here, but I saw it on LT. I tried to talk myself out of it, because I don't have anything in mind for it, but that color......

Gary has got some new stones up... I like the one chryo. Gary describes it as light green. He says it's likely coloured by vanadium. I bet it sparkles a ton IRL.

3.10 ct, 9.8 x 6.8 x 5.9mm, IF clarity
$1200

He also had two really lovely purple spinels which have already sold and a large orange sapphire.

Just wanted to note it is not precision cut.

And no vanadium chrysoberyl....

Pale yellow and really overpriced.

I believe Gary when he says it is light green. He has the stone in person and he's an honest seller.

Just noticed the comparison you posted. I honestly think Gary's one would be substantially better and greener IRL. Whether it is worth the price difference, I don't know.

LoversKites,

Hi, I don't know why for this stone 400 pct.....the multicolorgems stone is only an example - the Finewater is imo to expensive.

A Vanadium Chrysoberyl is bluishgreen - never yellowgreen. Most chrysoberyl has Iron and very small amounts of chrome and vanadium.

Vendors can charge whatever they want. Chrysoberyl prices are all over the place these days. It should also be evaluated against a lighter background if someone is interested in it. Gary has been known to provide additional pics.

Point taken. Chrysoberyl prices seem to have very large differences with different vendors. I wish there were photos of the finewater one in normal lighting conditions and not with tons of light shining on it. Then I could assess the colour properly.

Eta: TL beat me to it :cheeky:

Indirect daylight and a white background would be fine!!!!

Better photos would be desirable, though he says it's a tough one to photograph & I believe it. Does seem expensive to me. I saw his email 20 min after it was sent & the 2 purple stones were gone already. Probably 20 seconds afterward, lol.

The new purple Spinel from Finewater Gems is very nice, shame that my piggy bank is rather empty at the mo!

Not sure if that is directed at me, however, I am aware of that. What I meant in my last post is that had I had the money to spare when I received his e-mail, I would have bought it, given the chance.

NOOOO - the chrysoberyl!!!! :D

Wires crossed, oops!

I guess someone appreciates the Chrysoberyl and is prepared to pay the asking price for it.
