Here''s a mokume sample from Krikawa:
I searched to look at your wedding bands because I dimly remember your thread about them. I like them a lot. I also looked up Chris Ploof since you mentioned him. He''s got some really nice jewelry on his website. Is Krikawa a jeweler or manufacturer? When it says the bands are alloyed with "silver", does that mean sterling silver I assume? I wonder if you could do the ring with 14k white and yellow gold and not silver? (sterling seems less "precious" to me)

And I never have known how the heck to pronounce "mokume gane".

You can get white gold instead of silver as an alloy, but I think they chose silver in some of their designs for the grey contast :) Mine has silver in it because white gold against palladium probably would have been TOO subtle. Also, white gold isn't really "white", the color most people associate with white gold is the color of the rhodium plating, and I have no idea how you'd ever redip a mokume ring, lol, so I stayed away from the white golds just in case (I do have a white gold lining though). I'd imagine they'd use a 14k white gold alloy that didn't look yellowish, but I never thought to ask. I saw the "white" combo and just loved it, so went with it!

Ah, I see. Your explanation makes sense. From looking at these rings, there seems to be a heck of a lot of color and metal combinations.

Wow MZ! Thanks for all the links. You don't realize who you're "talking" to. I am the original Miss Indecisive. Too many choices and I get really confused. LOL. Kidding aside, I am going to have fun looking at all those sites.

Your idea certainly is a bit on a daring side, but if you can pull it of I say why not. You can also tone it down a bit by doing the ring in white gold with yellow gold bezel and inlays for the stripes (instead of enamel). Might look interesting.
What do you mean by ''inlays''? Inlays made out of what? Black seed pearls sound interesting. I''m not really a fan of black diamonds.
Inlays made of yellow gold - but, of course, then they''d be just stripes and not tiger stripes

Those would look something like THIS, only vertical.

I still have not figured it out. But in all fairness, I have not been thinking about it over the last 2 weeks. I have been working 12 hr days and than working on a big presentation at night. I will probably start trying to figure things out in about a month when my schedule lightens up again.

Are you still thinking of the three ideas you mentioned in your thread? (No wonder you don''t have time to actually figure it out with a schedule like that!)

I am keeping that same look, but not sure is I will use those exact settings. I also like the one Harriet put up, it would be fun to do a modified version of that.

Are you leaning one way or another?

I am waffling back and forth. I really like the suggestion of the mokume gane but I still like the ring with the tiger stripes. I don''t have the stone yet. I bought it last Thursday, but it had to go to Wink first and then it will come to me. That''s what happened with my sapphire and it was very quick. I guess I should give Wink a call.

yes, it took me that long.....it was to be and is my e-ring....and it took a long time to also find someone to work with that could share my vision.

you will have a striking ring no matter which way you go.

I have to say that I am surprised by the color of the stone in the video. On Richard''s website, it looked much more orange. In the video it''s showing more yellow. (or is it brown?) I hope I won''t be disappointed with it IRL.

I''m bumping this up in case anyone wants to comment on the video. I talked to Wink today and he said there is no brown undertone. He said it is definitely orange not yellow. I just have a bad feeling though. Ugh!!!!

It does look somewhat yellow in the video but orange can be a pretty difficult color to photograph. Is there a reason you don''t believe him when he says there''s no brown or yellow in the stone? And is there anyway you can see the stone in person before it gets set?

It''s not that I don''t believe him. While I was on the phone with him he nabbed an unsuspecting customer and she did use the word "yellow". I think he was surprised. She said she didn''t see any brown though. I am getting it sent to me first so I able to return it if I don''t like it. It''s more that I would be disappointed. It isn''t a major deal, I just am crossing my fingers that it will be a great stone.
