I am new to this site! Wow, thank goodness I found it... I have been trying to decide on a new platinum setting for my 2 ct. round diamond and I see so many I like! I would love to see if you guys might have suggestions...

I really want a setting that will maximize the size of the stone. I''ve had my current setting for almost 6 years and the band has gotten deformed and the head with the prongs just look too big for the stone.

Anyway, what look would make my stone look bigger and really showcase it? I see all the halo settings that look great but will this hide the stone and keep light from it? Someone mentioned that to me once, I just don''t want to make a mistake making this big decision! Thanks!!

Can you post pictures so we know what you have? Or tell us what you like so far? Right off the bat I would say a simple solitaire, royal crown or tiffany head with a knife edge shank would really showcase the stone itself. A halo would make it appear larger and add a lot of style to the ring. The halo depending on how its built can take away from the stone. You can make a halo that is pretty plain underneath to let in a lot of light and so you can see the profile. I don't have time to post pics now but I will check back on this thread later and try if no one else has.

in larger stones I generally prefer a solitaire or 3 stone. I love halo's and they do add a lot to a ring, but with an already large stone I think they look more like a cocktail ring than an e-ring, especially rounds, just my personal opinion

Do you want simple, or more ornate? Do you like contemporary or traditional? I do not think you can go wrong with a lovely setting using rounds to make a three stone like someone suggested or use pears on the side...a neat look and not that common. I have also seen half circles on the sides which can look great. I am hoping some of the amazing picture posters will come up with some great photos!!!

I will take pics now and post them :)

2 carats is a large stone, so if you want to maintain a bridal look, then I''d think about keeping it simple either solitaire style with a very thin pave band, or in a 3-stone setting (pears, rounds, or baguettes on the sides). A halo would make it look really big and a bit cocktail ring-ish, so if you''re looking for a more elaborate style, then go for the halo. It''ll certainly look very impressive!

For your size stone, I would love a Tiffany replica setting or a three stone (pears, baguettes, or bullets IMO).

I am having trouble making the file smaller so the pictures will post... I will keep working on it!

Anyway, as you guys can see, the head is just so overpowering. The band has gotten deformed too... Now that I motice these things I just feel like it could look so beautiful in the right setting! I do like how this was suppose to be a dainty setting... Any suggestions?? If anybody has a 2 carat round out there, please send me a pic so I can ideas... Thanks!!

hi poisonivy!

check out this thread! it has tons of pics of 2-3 ct. diamond rings.

Wow that is set VERY high! I see what you are talking about now. I like it when there is a more fluid transition from the head to the shank. I think besides that it is a pretty setting. I really like gemstones mixed in for an extra twist. I think the sapphires in my ring really make my center stone pop. I also love the idea of pear sidestones.

Your diamond is beautiful, however I can TOTALLY understand your need for a new setting. For your stone, I love the solitaire look, either with plain platinum band or thin pave band. Also, if you are looking for more ornate, I like the idea of a 3 stone with pear sidestones....really cant go wrong with any of these choices! Cant wait to see what you decide...

i agree with all of the posts recently...lovely setting, but high...something more sleek would showcase the ring so well!

I think cathedral settings do a lovely job of "maximizing" the stone (I should know...I have one!!!) and I don''t think they always have to be super high...

My absolute favorite look for a round is this:

Sooo sophisticated, timeless, and classic! Really shows off the diamond

"I see all the halo settings that look great but will this hide the stone and keep light from it"

Regarding your question about the halo, I have a 3ct oval with a halo and it definately doesn''t hide the stone. Actually, the stone sits above the halo. If anything, it makes the stone appear larger.

As far as ''keeping light from it'', one of he more experienced PS''ers will have to chime in here, but the light comes in from the top of the stone. So, a halo setting isn''t going to keep light from the stone.

Anyway, that''s a beautiful stone you have and it deserves a much prettier head. I can''t wait to see how your project progresses.

Good luck!

SOOOO GORGEOUS...I would have a tough time deciding, that is for sure!!!

My best suggestion is to go to a jewelry store, like BBB if you have one near you that has lots of different rings and try them on. Some love the 3 stone with rounds, pears, baguettes or bullets. See what looks good on your hand. Sometimes you have an idea of what you love and then try it on and it doesn''t look as good as you would have thought.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I will defintely go somewhere to try on different settings. I see so many online, it''s just hard to find a store with all the styles! I am excited to see which one I end up with. I definitely want one that sits lower...

Here are some pictures of ones I think would look great. For your stone I really think it would look best with very little extra on a solitaire or with pear sidestones that make it shine! THese are all from www.dvatche.com
