Supposedly, the storm on its way in is a blizzard. I am in southwestern Connecticut, waiting to see if they can fool me again! This time we were promised 12-18 inches of snow (I believe). The suburbs of western Boston are due for the highest accumulations. Which of you New Englanders are in the western Boston suburbs?

DH and kids are in that area.. I am home alone taking care of sick doggie. Ash has a flight tomorrow night out of Boston but will get the the airport early and try going on stand by. I don't think she has a prayer of getting on, but who knows... Hubby flies all the time, has all the extra points.

Boston they say 15-20 inches??

Philly they are saying 6 to 12??

Thank god I stayed home, because if we have a blizzard, no one would be able to get here to take care of the dogs...

I hope it's not as bad as they say...

Stay safe everyone.

I am worried about losing power, they say the wind gusts will be up to 40!!!! :errrr:

I have no where to go with 2 dogs and a bird.... I am turning up the heat before bed, and hoping for the best.

Being here alone for Christmas sucked, but I had to do the right thing.. ;))

I'm in Philly and right now and they're predicting 10-20 inches....wowww...I'm ready!

All I can say is dog doggies. Thank goodness for doggies. I am glad you were with your dogs and they were with you, Lisa. I hope you all cuddle up and stay warm and cozy while it snows outside. Have some cocoa...but no chocolate for the pups :-).

Hugs,
Deb

10-20?? Ok bring it on, just please please let my daughter fly safely here tomorrow....

I tell ya, it's a good thing I stayed home. Pet sitter didn't do a good job the last time, and with Casper being blind and deaf... Last thing I would want is to have him here not being cared for due to snow... Or me trying to get here, gahh...

If I lose power? I will have a melt down... I can't take much more....

Generator will be ordered tomorrow, and will give hubby the bill!!!!! :$$):

Thanks AN. You stay warm and safe too!!

Kaleigh, I admire you for staying home to take care of a sick dog. I came this close and I mean this close to spending Christmas alone with my cat before my SO who's on a business trip let me know he could come from the evening of the 24th through the morning of the 26th. I actually believed that I would be spending Christmas without SO for a few weeks, so I was getting ready to do that. You're heroic for doing it and I hope your dog feels better soon!

I'm northwest of Boston, and it looks like we could get 12-18". Finally, it's the snow I've been waiting for!

I went to college in a city west of Boston and it was always hit hard during storms.

I hope you have your shovels ready! :cheeky:

Is it snowing in PA yet????

I keep wondering if my little girl will make her grand entrance during this blizzard! And, I can't sleep! Haha. I've been up since 4. I'll be 38 weeks tomorrow and wonder if she'll arrive a bit early. When I first realized her due date (1.10), I wondered whether we'd be driving to the hospital in the snow . . . No signs of labor, but every little movement has me wondering!!!!!!

Oh boy, LV, you may have a story to tell her someday! Fingers crossed for you. Kaleigh, I join Danny in loving your responsibility for your doggie. Would do the same myself -- in fact we have a 13-yr-old dog who's pretty rickety, though cheerful, needs his pain meds precisely every 12 hrs & would be in agony on a kennel floor, so we haven't gone away together for a couple of years; he needs enough TLC that I wouldn't trust him to a pet sitter & a kennel is out of the question. You gotta do what you gotta do. Bless you.

Sounds like you are near where we used to live -- we were in New Canaan for about 10 yrs. Loved the area, Silvermine. We got some great blizzards that totally delighted our crew of Siberian Huskies.

Now we're in southern North Carolina, 10 minutes from the South Carolina border -- and IT SNOWED! 2nd snow in the 7 yrs we've been here. The natives do crack me up. Maybe 1 1/2 soggy inches on the ground and the local news this a.m. blared, "EVERYBODY STAY HOME!" Dangerous stuff out there! They will dust off their one plow in the city & tear up streets with it, there being too little on the roads to buffer against the blade.

One egregious & infuriating element is the number of people with "outside dogs." I don't know why you get a dog if you don't want it in your house, part of your family, but many, many have them rotting in the backyard, isolated. In weather like this they're susceptible to frostbite & miserably cold. Perfectly legal in the good ole South. It is immoral.

We have 2-3 inches here in Atlanta and that's a rarity! The kids are so excited! I hope that everyone else makes it where they're supposed to go and is safe and sound!

No snow yet as of 9:55 am in the Bucks County/Philly area, but now they are forecasting 10 - 20+ inches. I am staying put!

It's snowing in Georgia, and I've heard from friends that there is light snow already in certain parts of FL.

It hasn't snowed in those particular parts of Florida since I was nine.

I am middle-aged now.

So, if it's this bad in FL, you guys will definitely get socked. Sorry to say, but it will be a whopper. Batten down the hatches.

I don't think the weathermen are messing with you this time. . .

And I have some idiot friends that are driving to N. Carolina today/tomorrow. Lordy.

It's just started snowing in New Haven. Woo-hoo! Love the snow! We had a dusting earlier today. I actually went to the grocery store, and it was super-crowded at 8 am. Typically, I wouldn't have bothered, but had to stock up on a few necessities. I go through groceries much more quickly these days. Haha.

JewelFreak - New Canaan is just lovely! Quite a change from there to North Carolina, I gather. I'm sure you find people a lot more friendly and chatty in NC. Very, very sad about the outside dogs. Hopefully, they have shelter at the very least. Terribly sad that they are deprived of the human companionship that we all know they crave. :(sad

Deb - I love when you start these threads! It must be snowing in SW CT too, yes? On the news this morning, there was already a bit of snow on the ground in New London, which I thought was odd . . . must be the way the storm came up the coast.

No snow for me here in Michigan... Stay safe!

Snow is comin' down hard in NJ! BRING IT ONNNN!

I'm in Virginia Beach, we are always told to expect to be snowed in and we never are....

Well they were right with this storm! We have about 6-7 inches or so on the ground right now and it's still snowing!

So I'm thinking to expect the worst up north.

No snow yet here in Western Massachusetts! Bring it on! My DH is off for the next two days, DS has lots of new toys from Santa to keep him busy, food in the fridge, and plenty of spiked egg nog left!!! Come on snow!

Loves Vintage, I'm thinking since New Haven is getting snow now, the snow should be here soon!!!

Kaleigh, safe travels for your daughter! I am sure you can't wait to see her!

DH, DS and Ash gave me a big surprise and came home early this morning. Phew!!! I am thrilled to have them home safe and sound. Just got back from grocery shopping, it's crazy. They are saying 10-20!! The Eagles are supposed to play tonight at 8:00. Not sure if the NFL has made a decision yet.

Stay safe and warm everyone. Thanks for the kind words about Casper. He's my love and did the right thing by staying here.

That is awesome Kaleigh! Now that they are all home, your "real" Christmas begins!!!

Aww, Im so glad they are all home safely!!!!!! I'm thinking about voyaging out to the store right now.

I really thought they would play, but I'm hearing its postponed until Tuesday :(

Snowing now!!! :appl:

So far a dusting near New Hope, PA. I let my dog out a few minutes ago to run wildy around trying to chase down the snowflakes. Now he is sleeping comfotably on the sofa. DH is watching football with some Xmas cookies and DD is out with her BF.Hopefully she will be home before it gets too nasty out there.

I'm 45 minutes SE of Boston, near the RI border and snow is falling but hasn't accumulated to much yet. We were up in NH visiting family for the holiday and came home early last night so we didn't have to travel in the storm/traffic today. So only time will tell if this is the snowpocalypse they're calling for....I'm really hoping my office will close tomorrow...

I'm right across the pond from you Deb. The North Shore and CT always has the same weather forecast. They say we're in for up to 18" too, and everyone *must* be believing the weather man because the supermarkets were absolutely packed with people this morning.

My parents live close to HH and are predicted to get slammed...

My poor brother and his wife have been trying to get home from England via Belgium since 12/21...their original flight got cancelled due to the snow in Europe and couldn't get rebooked until today. So they are now enroute from Madrid to Chicago and supposed to take a 5 pm flight to Boston. It's pretty iffy if they are going to make it or get stuck in Chicago. And if they do make it, it's going to be a heck of a drive up to Logan to pick them up!

Flakes falling here in the eastern midwest, but I think it's going to pretty much miss us.

ETA: His flight out of Chicago is already canceled...so my dad booked them a hotel and got them on another flight to Boston tomorrow night. Poor little bro!

Basil -- I hope your brother and his wife make it home soon!

Kaleigh -- I'm glad your husband and Ash came home early. I'm sure you're happy to have them home now. How's Casper doing?

It's 3:00 and it hasn't started snowing yet (I'm an hour or so northwest of Boston). I keep checking, expecting to see something...

Lisa-I'm so glad your family is back together! As to the snow here: I saw my husband off on a local train to New York City at 7:05 AM so that he could get back to Virginia before the snow and about an hour ago he was already in Arlington. He said there was no snow on the ground there!

Here (again, I'm in southwestern Connecticut) it has been snowing for a few hours, but slowly. We'll just have to wait and see how much we really get. I hope you all enjoy it and that no one loses power!

Hugs,

Indeed we do have the same forecast, gemgirl! And I can see your outline from my beach! For anyone who is unfamiliar with the geography of this area, coastal Connecticut and the North Shore of Long Island are separated only by Long Island Sound, which varies in width but which can be traversed by ferry. One can see (although not clearly) from one side of the Sound to the other.
