Tell me about your small wins today!

:lol-2::roll2:I got a $1 raise at work

But…. I found an amazing bra on amazon that’s a sports bra but you don’t have to wrangle it over your head, and doesn’t zip in the front (I have 25yr dental hygienist hands that barely work, lol) and the straps don’t fall down constantly, it’s comfortable…. And the best part, no wire!!! I am an F cup so no wire is basically like walking a tight rope without a safety net :lol-2::lol-2::lol-2:

Congratulations - 44 pounds in 4 months is incredible!

Would you feel comfortable sharing the changes you've made, especially around diet? I could use some ideas/inspiration. My weight is increasingly out of control, with finally landing into the "obese" category of BMI a couple months ago at my highest weight ever, plus sky-high cholesterol and blood sugar that has been in the prediabetic range for a couple years now. I've got the exercise down pat - that for some reason is easy for me - but dietary and other lifestyle changes are much harder and I have yet to find patterns that work for me there. (My lifelong addiction to sweets isn't helping.)

Thank you so much! See, I am the opposite, diet has always been easier for me than exercise. Back in February, I had a bit of a scare over some blood work results, that was what motivated me to start with. At the time I was addicted to sugar and hungry all the time so the first thing I did was drastically cut the sugar out and gluten (because it can be inflammatory). Mind you I work in a bakery so this was no small task lol! My diet now is mainly oatmeal (plain old fashioned or steel cut), lean protein (very little red meat) vegetables, some fruit (and berries) and dark chocolate. I also practice intermittent fasting most days of the week, although I know not everyone is a fan of it, it has really helped with the hunger cravings. I only eat from noon to 8 pm most days and I am not hungry or craving anything during my “off” time. If you are considering fasting you should check with a doctor first and if you are still menstruating, you shouldn't fast the week before your period. Definitely read up on it first to make sure it will be a safe transition.

The main thing is whole foods, I know what I'm putting in my body at all times. Yes, I will occasionally have ice cream or something like that but I'm at a point where it doesn't trigger me to backslide. Also no sugar drinks, black coffee, lots of water and sparkling or carbonated water like Polar is great if you need a little taste. I happen to have PCOS so I don't eat much dairy except plain Greek yogurt (I love Fage) and cheese (mostly paired with fruit).

I've also done a lot of work on myself mentally because I was one of the people trying to fill a void with food. Not saying that everyone needs to consider that but it was part of the bigger picture for me. There was a lot of trauma from my childhood that I never dealt with and it caused many to hate myself and not care about my health. Properly dealing with it has changed my life for the better in so many ways.

Obviously, I'm not a doctor, this was just throw spaghetti at the wall and see if it sticks. There was some trial and error but now its just my lifestyle. The thing is if you can just get past three months it will be like second nature but those three months will be challenging at times. Always feel free to reach out, I have contact info on LT and I'm on IG as well. You can do this and I'm happy to help you if you need it.

Thank you SO much for this - I really appreciate it! A lot of ideas for me here. You know, I had been kind of unintentionally doing intermittent fasting for years and years - decades, really - just because I liked to exercise first and preferred to do it on an empty stomach. Just recently I had started to have what's supposed to be a small amount of carbs beforehand because I read that it's less stressful for the body before a long steady cardio session, and too often that would immediately trigger cravings for more noshing at the same time that high temps here lately have meant pushing exercise back until early evening. That may be why my weight has particularly skyrocketed in the last few months! I'll have to get back to my prior pattern.

I also really identify with what you shared about filling a void with food. I, too, have a lot of childhood trauma, and I distinctly remember tasty food - especially sweets - being the one thing that would consistently bring me a sense of comfort when so much around me was so......not comforting. That has stuck with me and essentially turned sweets into my "best friend and confidante" for 50+ years. But that's not what food is supposed to be......I see work ahead there. I'm sorry that you went through that as well, but thrilled that you're reaping the rewards of the work you've done there!

@OboeGal, my heart goes out to you on the trauma. It’s been quite the journey to unpack all this baggage I've been carrying around for so long but it’s so worth it.

Depending on what you’re doing for exercise, it may not be bad to eat before. However I used to do long cardio sessions and it only made my appetite and energy worse. My doctor told me that diet is more important than anything so if you can get that straight then you’ve already won 90% of the battle.

Just recuping from a horrid flu (it’s not COVID, we tested, and at least both DH and I have it at the same time…), and after 3 days of zero appetite and hardly being awake long enough to prep/eat anything, I am carefully tiptoeing into eating foods again. Juices, mild (bland), brothy soups, etc.

The good part from experiencing a million+ bouts of short explosive coughs? My abs feel like I’ve gone far, far overboard at the gym  and my jeans/pants once again fit very nicely. They were a tick snug pre-cold.

Why, yes, I can usually find a “positive” in the midst of a mess. :D

My new treadmill arrived yesterday. We set it up last night (done with a minimum amount of strife and no actual bloodshed). And today I *actually*used*it*

Today is the 10 year anniversary of the cycling accident that put my life on hold for 8 plus months.
I cannot believe 10 years have passed.
And my dh and I have been cycling 10,000 miles a year since that accident.
Thanks to my terrific surgeon!!!

Down 54lbs at this point and I decided to revamp my look because it’s been so long since I put any effort into my appearance. Picked out these glasses today, should have them in two weeks, I also recently colored my hair dark brown. It’s starting to come together ;)

You look great! and 54 lbs is a true accomplishment. Has this been through diet changes and exercise? Whatever you're doing, it is working. Keep up the good work until you are satisfied and then just enjoy it.

Thank you! Yes it is so exciting to get past 50lbs, I can really feel a difference at this point and of course I look so much better. There has been a major overhaul of diet as well as IF and I walk for an hour a day, it does help to be on my feet at work as well.

Really this has been a complete lifestyle change and unlike losing weight in the past, it’s sustainable, no hours at the gym, no restrictive diet, it appears it was just my time this time around. Thank you for the support.

@stracci2000, aw thanks friend. I still have a way to go but it gets easier and easier the better one feels, you just want to keep going.

@OboeGal, it does feel amazing, it’s funny because I had no idea things would just fall into place this time around. Every other time I’ve tried to lose weight has been a massive struggle, this time it was hard in the beginning but now it’s just second nature. Thanks for your support.

62lbs down this morning! I was “stuck” at 180 for a while so it was great to see the needle (because I have a dinosaur scale) hovering just above 170.

Getting there!

@YadaYadaYada, You are one strong and beautiful woman (at any weight). You have proven that many times over the years here. I’m so happy for you because I know you really wanted this and it was important to you. To put it mildly this is one very hard accomplishment. I always hope you can see yourself as others see you here. We think you are pretty wonderful!

Aw, thank you so sweet for you to say. I just know that weight loss is a struggle for a lot of people, I pretty much resolved that I was destined to be overweight for the rest of my life. So to finally be making steady, sustainable progress is just so great. Thanks for your support.
