I''ve seen the beginnings of threads on Thaigemstore but never really heard reviews. They''re having a promotion this month that offers free shipping, so I bought a little something to check them out. Has anyone else had experience with them?

I have bought a few stones from them and, while ok, I don''t look through their listings anymore. You do have to be careful (read the description, scrutinize photos) and I find most stones windowed, included or badly coloured.

I have found that my taste has become much more selective (and expensive).

I have never purchased from them but did check out their website many years ago. From what I heard, they sold better quality stones then, and the quality has gone downhill rapidly since. I know there are other regular posters who know more about the company. LD might be one of them.

My first experience buying a colored stone was from them and boy did I learn what NOT to get. The picture looked pretty good to me but boy was it terribly windowed when I recieved it. Lesson learned and I keep that stone to this day for that very reason. I haven't bought from them since.

Hi,

I just bought something from them, 5 stones to be exact. All were not as shown, either in the photo or in the video. The colors were very different and even after I e-mailed him on one stone he did not tell me the truth. Three stones were windowed so bad, I couldn''t believe it. I sent all back.
My package ,which was mailed on Feb 19th hasn''t arrived although he claims he received it Tuesday. Said it was in customs all that time. I checked with postal service and there is no record of arriving at his place. So, I have no idea what is going on.
My invoice was near $500.00. I did not get one stone that was OK. I certainly won''t deal with them anymore. I am not happy with the integrity of some Thai dealers. Seems you need to be very careful.

Oh, just to let you know it cost me over 13.00 to send the package back, so take that into account.

Thanks.
Annette

I purchased my paraiba lot from them. I like the color and quality ALOT (I had 3 stones with chips out of 50 or 60 something, and I was refunded for those stones when I brought it up no questions asked, and no return needed). The seller even gave me cheap 10$ fed ex shipping so I didnt have to wait so long for them. No complaints from me!!

Yikes...4 negatives is no good!

Rockhugger, your paraibas are gorgeous, so maybe there is hope. I''ll post pictures once I get my stone.

RH,
Didn''t you purchase your huge paraiba lot from Thaigemscity/Thaigemvillage (sister stores)?

Slightly off subject but not worthy if''s own thread: Ive been tempted to try a star ruby from starruby.in. does anyone have any experience with them? I was thinking to start small but nice and take the stone straight to gia.

I wouldn''t touch them with a bargepole. Not only do they highly doctor their photographs to make the gem look 100% better they somehow manage to doctor their videos too. I have no idea how they do it but if you look in the Vendor photo/our photos thread you''ll see an horrific example of 2 stones I bought from them. Neither looked anything like the picture/video and when I emailed them saying I wanted to return them they said they would refund me only if I gave them positive feedback!

Yuck! I can''t believe they basically tried to blackmail you!

Was one of them the green bi-colored sapphire you set in a LOGR? I remember that the vendor pic was definitely unlike your pictures, but the ring is still very pretty.

Yes it was - but if you''d seen their selling photo it was sooooooo different! The other was a pear shaped sapphire that was dire. A friend of mine (who doesn''t know anything about gems) loved it so I gave it to her! To be honest, I was exceptionally lucky that that bi-coloured sapphire''s window closed in the setting because it honestly was enormous. I would be super careful if you buy from this Ebay vendor.

I just sent a message asking for a refund minus the 10% restocking fee (I just bought it yesterday and I don''t think its been sent yet). I hope they accept!

LD, I hadn''t seen your response before I wrote again! That sounds like an amicable solution for your other gem.

I usually avoid impulse gem purchases, but with free shipping and a very large inventory, I thought I''d give them a chance. Oftentimes I find that hunting for a deal (and finding non-deals along the way) can be just as expensive as saving up for a single stone from a vendor I trust. I''ll just have to take it as a learning experience.

Thanks for clarifying because I think Thaigemscity/Thaigemvillage is a better class of stores than Thaigemstore. I too have had a bad experience with doctored videos with Thaigemstore. I do not trust them.

Very recently bought a spinel from Thaigem. It was listed as top luster (his best grade). It was absolute garbage dreadfully cut, and listed 'vs' was eye flawed to boot! Never again. Awaiting refund.

It's a numbers game business by the look of it and how many foreign buyers who won't bother sending them back because of the postage cost negative.

They get the odd real quality piece as a teaser, but it's rare and you pay near top dollar so what's the point!

I have just recently purchased a small demantoid garnet off them (still haven''t received it though). Will post my thoughts when it does arrive.

Out of curiosity, has anyone filed a paypal/ebay dispute against them for ''item significantly not as described''?

I do feel because they misrepresent their items by doctoring the images, they should not charge a 10% restocking fee.

I have purchased a couple tourmalines from them (not paraiba). A mint green, and a baby pink. I got them and they were as described, and not windowed. Maybe I was lucky? I also bought a kunzite I havnt recieved yet. I will for sure post before and after pics of that one.

love the color...but will have a nice window.

I bought two tourmalines from them, a light indicolite and what appeared to be a pretty bright orangey one. The first one turned out to have a ton of grey and be drab, the second one looked brown.

I kept both because they were inexpensive and it would have cost more in S&H to return them.

I don't know how they do it, but they definitely doctor their videos somehow. This made me not trust a source just because it had videos. I always ask about hue, modifiers, saturation, tone, and if the dealer doesn't come clean, or know how to answer those questions, then stay away.

They''ve already shipped it. Great. So, I''ll post pictures when I get it; I''m hoping I''ll be surprised, but not quite counting on it.

I am writing this message to clarify that the post by member "LovingDiamonds" is referring to his purchase from Thaigemstore and NOT from my company StarRuby.in

The way the post has been made, it appears that he is referring to purchase from my company - which is absolutely not the case.

His original post about the doctored pictures can be seen here, on the basis of which it is clearly evident that LovingDiamonds is referring to his purchase from Thaigemstore:

Thanks for clarifying! The issue is that the person who posted prior to your post asked for reference about my website StarRuby.in after which you wrote about the doctored photos. This made is "appear" as if you were referring to my website. A customer brought this to my attention!
