That really is the key to getting them.Date: 4/25/2009 7:20:06 AM

Awesome fire shots! Love the colors coming off of ALLl of the stones!
I have to get a ''real'' camera so I can post some better ones. I had fun playing in the yard with my cell phone. It definitely takes a lot of practice and patience, but the fire is worth it!
Ha ha, thanks Miss Ellen.Date: 4/20/2009 8:27:42 AM

Wowzers, we got some fawrrrry shots here! And the settings (and nekkie stones) aren''t bad either! Thanks for all your lovely contributions, you''re psyching me up to go out and get some!
And Miss AJ, are you serious? Those shots are just as gorgeus, if not more so, because you have the awesome color of the stone to go with!Feel free to post anytime, this thread isn''t just for diamonds.

Ellen, Random question.
That solitaire setting in those photos that you took in the first couple of pages of this topic, can you post a pic of the profile of it??
It's very similar (if not almost identical) to the setting I'm getting.

This is a sorry excuse for a fire shot, but it's the only one I've ever managed to take!!
I'm serious, Miss Ellen. I've had it in the sun and nadaDate: 4/29/2009 7:32:54 AM

You did capture it though. I love soft, out of focus fire. Gary says you can see more that way.
Now, get to snapping missy.
And I love all the beautiful new shots, thank you all!

I''m serious, Miss Ellen. I''ve had it in the sun and nadaThat one shot was dumb luck, I assure you. I think it''s my camera. It''s raining today, but I will try again. Perhaps I should go to the fire swamp. Yes, that''s the ticket
ETA: Perhaps you should write up a post called ''For Dummies''
Do you think a tripod would help? Thanks for not foot-tapping meDate: 4/29/2009 9:31:26 AM

I doubt it''s your camera, I''ve seen your beautiful pics. It just takes time, patience, and practice. These are not always something you can just whip off (after you get the hang of it, it''s much easier). I''ll try to give you the biggest tips.
1. Make sure the diamonds are really clean.
2. If you are taking them in the morning or late afternoon, when the sun is lower, laying the ring down toward the sun helps. If the sun is high in the sky, in the box works better, or on your hand.
3. Get the ring where you want it, get your camera focused on it, and then, keeping the same distance, start to move very slowly to the left/right/up/down til you see it light up. You may actually see fire, or you may just see a bright white blob. Shoot it anyway, because when you blow it up, you may well have a great fire shot.
4. Hold that camera steady when actually shooting!
5. Practice, experiment, find what works.
I hope this helps, I''ll be waiting.
I don''t know, I''ve never worked with one. The potential problems I see are:Date: 4/29/2009 9:50:30 AM

Yes, here''s a profile pic. It''s the D''Vatche X-Prong. If you have any other questions, just ask!
They do look very similar! Your "x" looks like it might be a bit "narrower", for lack of a better description, than mine. I really like it!! And in pink gold? be still my heart!Date: 4/29/2009 2:32:33 PM

Here''s a stock photo of mine. It''s a scott kay but we are having it made in pink gold
I used a small, table tripod for all fire shots. I think its much easier to hold the camera steady when you see that spark. BUT it will have to be one where you can tilt and move the camera on it.Date: 4/29/2009 1:55:13 PM

Can you move the camera around on it? How close can you get to the ring? And I just can''t see getting at some of the angles it takes to get shots, at least me.
Like I said, I''ve never used one, or even seen one up close, so it might work, I just can''t say.
And you''re welcome.
