The Never-Ending Ring Journey Continues - 5.90 Antique Cushion

I will ditto @LLJsmom. From the photos and videos shared thus far - I will say that this is not a stone that I would shortlist for myself or for friends/family.

All large diamonds with this faceting style will show immense fire compared to stones with smaller virtual facets - but that’s a function of sheer facet size, not cut quality. I would recommend comparing it to some truly well-cut cushions with excellent under-table
performance (not necessarily precision-cut! Just well-cut).

You’ve been on this search for so long. Sometimes the things that draw us in aren’t the things we’d expect. You’ve seen this cushion in-person, it may have a real world magic that grabs you and doesn’t let go… My advise is only to do your due diligence with comparisons to ensure that’s the case before you commit to it.

@yssie @LLJsmom Not a downer at all, I appreciate the honest feedback! It has been a long journey and I definitely want to make sure I land in the right place when all is said and done!!

Hi @twosanguinehearts That is a big bright diamond! I love that it's a K with fluor. I probably why it looks so white. The crown is very lively. However, hope you don't my honest input, the area under the table doesn't seem as lively. Maybe it's the videos or the lighting, but in all the videos, under the table it seems kinda dead compared to the crown. And the faceting under the table seems kinda messy. This can't be cheap. I feel like it could find better for what you must be paying. Maybe it's really hard right now to much to choose from. Maybe you see a lot more fire that can be shown via video. I'm sorry. You can ignore me if I'm being a downer.

Yeah I am so sorry but this was my first impression. I agree with @LLJsmom and @yssie
I am seeing mushy facets in the center. It is not a well cut stone. IMO. I think you can do better. The size is impressive true and the shape lovely but it is not a keeper IMO.

I just thought it was the photography not being clear is this not a stone from JbG?

No, it’s not. It could be my photography but definitely something I’ll investigate further since it is a big purchase.

Try to get a macro shot of the facet pattern for any stone you are considering. I couldn't quite tell anything about the facet pattern from the distance of the videos and pictures. It just doesn't look crisp under the table to me, either. I really LOVE excellent cut antique cushions, but I'd personally wait for a great one, however long it takes.

I thought the same thing, kind of looked like fish eye you get in shallower stones. I wonder what the depth is? Diamonds can be impossible to photograph too.

JbG has a OMC K with fluor but I realize that the size is just slightly different; whoops I need to read more carefully!!! Anyway I definitely trust the opinions of the likes of @LLJsmom @missy and @yssie - they are diamond aficionados.

Yeah it’s spready - 53.3% depth so there may be some transparency under the table area.

In my experience it's always more noticeable in photos and videos and not so much in person. I've taken pictures of diamonds I loved in person and it didn't translate in pics, haha.

Totally! I didn’t see any transparency at all indoors but in the sunlight I could maybe see a little bit more leakage in that central area.
