The Official TTC Thread!

Hey ladies!

Fisher -- I can totally understand why you haven''t tested yet. I would much rather see AFF than a BFN. Your chart does look awesome though!

********************************

It''s CD15. I''m pretty sure I O''d yesterday...temp shot up today and OPK''s are no longer positive. Happy with the BD timing this cycle thanks to the OPKs, waiting for crosshairs now.

LL - A boy! That is totally nutso crazy! My mind is offically blown! That''s so great. And thanks for the encouragement. I seem to remember that you were a one-timer the month that you got KTFU (?) and that keeps me a little saner.

InLuv - Way to go! So does it look like you O''d on the same day as your positive OPK? Cuz I think that''s what happened for me last cycle. But because my dr. told me to plan to BD the day of and the day after a positive result (with the expectation that you would O the day after a positive) we didn''t get on the floor until the night of the positive. Thus I think we may have missed it. I''m sure it''s different for everyone, though.

It looks like I O''d the day after my + OPK. So we BD on O day, O-1, and O-3. I hope you didn''t miss that egg!

Festy - Yup! One shot wonder! And the month before we DTD six days in a row around ovulation time and NADA. So all it really takes is one! =)

Hey ladies, long time no see!

I also wanted to mention, FF had me o-ing on say... day 17. I got a positive opk on day 18, and we dtd once on day 18. Miraculously, that worked for us. One time, either the day of or the day after ovulation. LL is so right- once can work!

I was a one-time wonder (both times)...so it really is all about timing!

Which makes me CRAZY that people get ''accidentally'' pregnant. I mean, REALLY!

Also. Good work on the visualization Fisher. I SWEAR it works (in all aspects of life). I''m going to be "visualizing" the great opening of le cervix starting in 2 weeks time.

Can''t hurt, right?

Good for you! That''s the attitude.
Good luck testing tomorrow.
Sending you tons of good vibes!

Festy, thinking of you. A difficult situation.

Fisher, fingers and toes crossed for you!

Thanks for chiming in one hit wonders! very impressive getting on the floor.

That's great BD timing, INLuv! I think you have a great chance of getting knocked up this cycle!
1.gif
Hope you continue to feel positive about this month.

I didn't realize there were so many 'one hit wonders' around here either.
1.gif
But I really believe that timing Bd as close as possible to O really helps up the chances. In skimming the pregnant charts on FF I notice that about 95% of the charts have BD occuring on the day before O or the day of O itself. That really says a lot. So a 'one hit wonder' on the right day can totally do the trick!

Your chart looks great Fisher!

In general, I really do think there''s something to saving up the swimmers and shooting a massive sperm bolus (hehe!) as close to ovulation as possible. I know DD has some research to show that DTD every day doesn''t affect outcome, but there are so many of us who seem to have the best luck with actually doing it less. Both times we got knocked up we hadn''t DTD for a few days before the positive OPK.

Good luck everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

Another temp drop today. Kind of a big one. Now it''s just a matter of waiting for the start of a new cycle. I won''t lie; the pain/sadness is stronger each cycle, because it''s like you carry the letdown of the cycles before along with you, too. And I really think that for whatever reason, both Paul and I thought taking the clomid would have made this our cycle. Finally, our chance at parenthood. But it didn''t. Not knocking the medication, just saying that I don''t think either of us were prepared for how much we were hoping it would work the first time. Byebye 2009 baby, hello hoping for an anniversary baby! 01/2010, that looks like a great birthday month, doesn''t it?

I really try not to post when I''m down and feeling all poor me, so I may take a short break for a little bit, but I didn''t want to leave anyone hangin, either.

Have a good Wednesday, ladies. It''s over the hump day. Only two to go after this....

oh fisher i''m so sorry. so that temp drop definitely means no luck, i take it. sorry to see you disappear for awhile, i understand, but you might feel better writing about what you are feeling and getting support from the board.

i can empathize with how you feel. when i was saying to the the NP earlier this month that between the clomid and iui it had to work, she told me that the issue is getting a good egg. b/c if you don''t have a good egg (or eggs) that month, it won''t work no matter what else you do. and it''s not supposed to in that case.

so i think you and i probably did everything right this month, we just have to kill a bit more time waiting for that good egg!

fisher - I''m so sorry for the disappointment that you are feeling this morning. last cycle, my hopes soared into the clouds - it just felt like *this* could be it - only to come crashing back to the reality of AFF
38.gif
. I''m much less emotionally invested this month making this cycle more managable and less all-consuming. I know that it''s natural to have more difficult months processing this journey, but I also know that you are going to pee on a stick one morning (maybe even in the middle of the night
3.gif
) and all of these letdowns, hurt and waiting will be well worth it.

**********************************

I watched baby mama last night
9.gif
lots of laughs and definitely a couple of tears.

**********************************

inluv - smashing BDing!

festy - please forgive me, because I''m not exactly sure what/if you have a fertility diagnosis? I know that you''ve been to the RE, but I thought that your tests were coming back normal? If that was the case, I''m not sure that I would go the route of an IUI. however, that is just me and I''m not sure that I''ll ever want to go down that route. these are definitely tough choices, so I think that I''d have a conversation with DH and see what he thinks would be the best way to try to ease the pressure of performance.

Fisher- Sorry for the temp drop. I understand, I really thought the first cycle with clomid would be our cycle too.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement! Peony - I can''t wait to use the word "bolus" in a sentence!

Fishie - I''m sorry, sweetie. I hope you''re still in the running.

LuLu - Not at all. Our results in the first round of tests were normal-ish. If only this were black and white. Here''s the deal. Hubby''s SA was normal except in one respect, his sperm''s morphology. Depending on which lab/doctor/insurance company you talk to, "normal" sperm morphology means that anywhere from 4-12% of the spermies in the sample have "perfect" morphology, i.e., their tails are long enough and they have only one head, etc. The good insurance companies in our area will cover IUI if the morphology comes back at under 4%. DH''s was 3%. According to the RE, this is good enough to get me knocked up but also low enough for IUI. Best of both worlds, eh? So they do require another SA because apparently this number changes. The RE said he met a guy with 0% who still managed to get his wife KU! See how clear cut this is?

20.gif

Aww Fishie, that stinks! I''m so sorry, girl!
39.gif

Even though it seems like a bunch of us got knocked up with Clomid on the first try, I do think that it''s fairly rare. Realistically one''s chances aren''t much higher than with a non-medicated cycle (it just brings people''s rates up to normal who are having late ovulation or no ovulation), unless maybe multiple eggs are ovulated. And as we both know that can be a freaky thing.
3.gif

So I wonder if I can get some opinions on Clomid. As I've mentioned earlier, this was my first (unsuccessful) month using clomid, as well as iui.

My understanding of clomid is that it helps someone who doesn't ovulate normally ovulate, and that it may even result in two eggs being released instead of one.

My ovulation is perfectly normal. I'm waiting to hear back from my doctor with an opinion, but I'm thinking I'll skip the clomid this month and just do the iui. What do you guys think? I've heard they have great success rates with clomid, but in my case, I guess I'm not so sure why.

Edit: and I didn't even realize the topic right above mine indicates success rates with/without clomid are the same.

So I just heard back from the nurse and she said that clomid "often" results in multiple eggs. So I guess I''ll do it again (although I''m going to search the internet to see if I can nail down what "often" means. I was going to skip this month entirely (clomid and iui), but I guess I don''t want to let a chance go by.

Melanie- I''m sorry your IUI cycle wasn''t successful. I''m sort of in the same situation, I ovulate and have consistent cycles, not too long or wacky. My understanding of clomid is that while it may help you produce more than one egg, it also helps produce "better quality" eggs.

Thanks Tiffany! I''m totally feeling better, just deciding what the next step will be. Where are you at?

ahh Fsiher

So sorry...but it''s not over yet. I''m not a chart expert by any means, but I thought sometimes a drop was normal?
Anywway...if this wasn''t your cycle, I''m terribly sorry. (((Hugs)))
It will happen though...one way or another, you guys will be parents. I do wish that ahppens sooner rather than later, so a January baby sounds awesome!!!
4.gif

Festy
Sorry your DH is having trouble with the "schedules". I''m trying t think if there is a way to make it more into a game of some sort...or like others have said, to just have a goal in mind to get on the floor twice a week...then he never knows when it really does happen?.
COuld it be that you''re only up for getting on the floor during the "O" time and not interested otherwise?. If so, then maybe changing that pattern will help...so he knows that regardless of the timing, you enjoy it at times even when it''s not "the" time. Does that make sense?
Anyway, I wish you lots of luck for the next cycle!!!!!

What Peony means by this is that if you have fertility issues, then using clomid makes your chances of getting pg the same as a woman without a fertility issue. For example, if someone is not ovulating or only ovulates very late, then her odds of getting pg may be around 4% when she is not on Clomid but increase to 20% when she takes it... hence, her odds become the same as a woman not taking clomid who doesn''t have fertility issues. So saying that the odds of getting pg are the same on and off clomid is true, but misleading, because it doesn''t really convey the fact that the women taking clomid had lower-than-average odds of getting pg each cycle when they didn''t take the drug.

Clear as mud, right?

Tiffany/Melanie,

That was my understanding too, but if I remember correctly, my Reproductive Endocrinologist said it isn't true. He said Clomid helps a woman to release an egg earlier in her cycle (day 14 vs. day 60) which typically means a healthier egg, but Clomid itself doesn't 'tone' the eggs. I was also a regular, on-time ovulator and upon hearing this, stopped after using it for a single cycle because the risks (though small) then outweighed the benefits for me.

Fisher - i''m really hoping that temp drop doesn''t mean what we ''think'' it may mean. I''m still holding out hope for you girl. On the upside, you had a shorter cycle, which in the end, will only give you more babymaking opportunities
31.gif
and more opportunities to practice the power of positive thinking. I know that sounds trite right now, as you''re probably feeling like poopla right now. anyways, I''m thinking of you and holding out only hope and faith for your BPF. (hug)

Fisher, I just skimmed so I missed your post, but I''m also keeping hope alive. It isn''t over until it''s over, hon! Big hugs.

Morning Ladies!

Fisher -- I'm keeping hope alive for you this cycle!! It's not over yet! How are the temps holding up today?

Lulu -- I love baby mama! Made me tear up too.

Melanie -- Sorry I can't offer an opinions on Clomid since I've never taken it. I know you've gotten some good opinions/advice from some of the ladies here. I can imagine that the disappointment of a BFN is greater when on meds but I don't blame you for continuing to use it to increase your chances. Crossing my fingers that your month comes soon!

Shout outs to: Swimmer, Festy, Blushing, and Tiffany! Sorry if I forgot anyone.

Thank you to Dreamer, Ebree, Mela, Peony, Amber, Mandarine, Sha and all the other preggos who keep checking in to root us on and encourage us!

It's 3 DPO in my world. I'm still feeling very optimistic about this cycle, we'll see...I'm posting my chart because it's just been awhile since I've posted one!
