The Official TTC Thread!

Smurfy, I ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT A DOUBT would not let others'' problems (because they are THEIR problems) stop me from TTC. Life is way too short for that. Good luck!

POAS first thing tomorrow morning, and sleep with your fingers crossed.

Good advice! This made me giggle.

lilyfoot - How exciting!!! A line is a line, but you sound a bit unsure, which completely makes sense since this is your first test (I think?) Can you post a pic for us? How soon did the faint line show up? Can you go out and get a digital??????????
I am very unsure! I definitely don't want to get my hopes up over a dysfunctional test or something .. and yes, it will be our first
9.gif
I can't post a pic because I'm at work, and all I have here is my iPhone, and the line was not showing up when I tried to take a pic.

I will probably grab a digital in a day or two, if I don't have a clearer result from the 2nd test (that I'm going to TRY to wait until tomorrow morning to use).

ETA: The faint line showed up within the 2-minute wait.

Not to mention, I had drank a bunch of water about 1/2 hour before I took the test
20.gif

ETA: I used the CVS generic-brand "Early Result Pregnancy Test". I have no idea the sensitivity of this thing?

PSA - if you think you may have fertility issues, see your doctor sooner rather than later.

I signed up for Kaiser on January 1, 2010. I immediately called to start the ''infertility process''. Here it is, almost June and I have yet to see the fertility specialist or have any diagnostics. The hoops I''ve had to jump through are unbelievable.

I was supposed to finally have my appointment today - but the doctor took an extended vacation, so I was canceled. They were going to try and squeeze me in tomorrow, but the doctor on duty wants to leave early. Today is cycle day 1 - they will not give the order for the Cycle Day 3, FSH test without seeing the doctor first (I''ve been trying to get an order for this test for the last 5 months).

Thanks for nothing, Kaiser!

For those wondering WTF, an initial blood test (done in January) revealed an indeterminate immunity to Rubella (German Measles). I had to get the MMR vaccine (never mind that I had the vaccine as a child) and then wait 3 months and retest for immunity. Thank God, my test was ok the second time, or I would have been given the MMR vaccine again and have to wait another 3 months. Anyway, they wouldn''t allow me to even schedule an appointment until immunity was confirmed. Then I had to wait another month for the appointment (which was today and canceled).

I begged and pleaded for them to start diagnostics during my wait - denied every time. Tears didn''t work either. They don''t care.

I wonder if Kaiser has different processes for different areas? I''m in the Bay Area, and the first step they had us do was to attend a group ''infertility class.'' In that class, they gave us lab requisition forms for the Cycle Day 3 tests (estradiol, random glucose, prolactin, TSH, FSH, and Rubella immunity), the Cycle Day 22 test (progesterone), and a cup to take a sperm sample in. I just so happened to be on cycle day 3, so I was able to get those tests done right after the class let out.

Yeah, apparently they''ve changed the process. I attended the class with one other couple and they gave us orders for the immunites, stds, glucose, blood type and sperm sample. They wait until all those are in the clear before they allow you to make an appointment with the RE and then the RE orders the various fertility tests. If I had known they changed the process, I would have stayed with Blue Cross and UCLA.

Have you seen this site before? http://www.peeonastick.com/hpt/+.html

ETA: According to this site, it''s 25 mlU, which is fairly low as far as these things go.
Thank you, Loves Vintage. I''m all over that site right now .. I hope I''ll get a darker line tomorrow morning!

Lilyfoot- I took the CVS brand last week Friday night just to ease my mind as we were not going to begin trying until July, and it seems I got the same result you did. It is a hard brand to read, especially early. It was a super faint line, and I couldn''t believe it ( iwas about 11 DPO I think). I went out and got a EPT digital, which showed pregnant within the 3 minutes, which was what confirmed it for me. I also bought some FRER ones, and the line got darker each day that went by. It is my first as well and I''m scared out of my mind. I would go get a digital right away. It will put your mind at ease.

Ohhh now I''m really freaking out!! Thank you for sharing, wellinsm, and I will definitely try to get a digital today!

Ok, in my usual impatient nature, I went ahead an used the 2nd test as well. At first I thought it was giving me the same result, but then I thought this one wasn''t showing any type of line at all. I don''t think the crappy lighting in our work bathroom helps any either
32.gif
I think I''m going to wait a couple of days before testing again, if I don''t get impatient again.

Thank for all of your help, ladies!

Lily-Oooohhhh....exciting and scary all at once:-) Try a digi in a day or two, I know trying to interpret lines can be really tricky!

Wells-Congrats!!!!!!

Smurfy-I would TTC when me and my DH wanted to, regardless of issues in our extended family. We are both close to our families, but our FAMILY is each other and the little bean we are trying to make, know what I mean...?

Bliss-I am popping walnuts like they are going out of style:-) Had a handful for breakfast with some blackberry yogurt, and another handful with my asian salad for lunch:-)

Lilyfoot: Oooh! Good luck testing again.

Bella: Still wishing you luck and hoping you like the taste of all those walnuts

Re: Testing. How many DPO do you ladies wait (read as: manage to restrain yourselves) before you start testing like a lab rat? I am currently 8DPO (as far as I can tell) and itching to break the seal on that test wrapper, after all they are tests, they want me to use them. It really is a kindness to use one.
11.gif

Steal - Well, I tested positive at 8 or 9DPO (not sure exactly which day I ovulated since OPK gives you a range 24-36 hours, if I recall correctly, of when you should expect to ovulate.) I believe Miss Bliss also tested positive at 8DPO. I think most reasonable people would say wait til 10DPO. Some say wait until day of missed period. I'm with you though, 8DPO sounds good!

Lily - Could be that you tested with very dilute urine at your second test. Time will tell. I hope the line you saw on your first test was a line! If you wait to test, I will be amazed! At this point, you think there's something there, you just need to confirm it. I'd be stopping at the CVS on my way home. Sorry, that's probably terrible advice, but I know how it feels to not be sure. GOOD LUCK!

Bella - Hi There!!
35.gif
Hope the 2ww is going effortlessly for you. It'll be nice to be away for the weekend. Time and space away always seemed to help me.

LAJennifer - I am so sorry for your very frustrating experience. It really is not fair at all!!
29.gif
I know you said you will be away next month on CD3. Will you still be in the US? I've had blood work done at out-of-state labs before. My RE's office would just send the lab request to the fax number for whatever lab I would be visiting. Will Kaiser not do that because you HAVE TO go to a Kaiser lab? If so, that is really ridiculous. People have to travel. What if you had a chronic condition and needed to have blood work while you are away? I am sure they would order the blood work then, right? Why should this be any different? It sounds like you have been calling and trying to get things done, but I would not let this go. This has gone on long enough!!! I'd be calling them every day -- "Blood work out-of-state, please?"
29.gif
I am assuming you'd be able to get in to see one of their REs assuming they aren't all on vacation at the same time again!! Grrrrr.

Ugh, I know what you mean. Will a digital test tell me for sure? I realize that may sound like a dumb question, but what I mean is, is it too early to test with a digital test?

ETA: I completely agree with you though, I know my urine was very diluted, unforunately. I hadn't planned on testing, which is why I wasn't more careful to test in the morning, etc.

For me the peace of mind of a digital test was worth it. There was no analyzing the stick it either said pregnant or not pregnant. If you got a line on a standard test yesterday, no matter how faint, then a digital should come up as positive today.

Lily - Yes, just as HH said, it will say "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant" as a digitial display. They usually sell the store brand in a 2 pk. Get the 2 pack!!

Not that I''ve overanalyzed all of this or anything, haha!, but the digi''s usually read 50mlU HCG and up as positive, and many stick tests read 25mlU HCG and up as positive, so theoretically, if a tester had less than 50 when taking a digi, it would say NOT pregnant. With that said, the day I got my positive, I had a faint line, then a nice reassuring digi reading. That was a Saturday. I did not have my beta blood test until 2 days later, on Monday, and the reading was 50. The digi should not have been positive because my HCG level would definitely have been lower than 50 on that Saturday, but it was positive. So, who knows?

My fingers are super-tightly crossed for you!!

I had a very faint line on my standard hpt as well (CVS brand ironically) and thought it was an evap line (long story, thought I was testing in the early am turns out it was the middle of the night). But a day or so later I got a positive on the digi.

Oh Steal, we are almost the same with our cycles:-) If you can handle the possibility of seeing more negatives before your BFP than go for broke on 8DPO:-)

I am so glad that I will be out of town and I just need to keep exercising my will power until then b/c I know I would be dying to POAS if I was home and had my pee sticks on the ready:-)

I''m going to POAS on Tuesday which will be CD10, but if I was home I would be tempted to start earlier, but I really hate that hollow feeling when I see no line, or "not pregnant" (that''s the worst
15.gif
)

Thank you guys for all the advice/story sharing.

I have decided to grab a digital test on my way home today. We are going out tonight, and I don''t want to drink alcohol if I am indeed KTFU.

So I should have a clear answer in a couple of hours! I guess all I''m scared of is that if I am pregnant, I''m not pregnant "enough" to register on the digital test. I don''t want to get a "Not pregnant" and actually be pregnant, KWIM? Because we are going out all this weekend.

Should I pee on the stick, or pee in a cup? Does it matter?

Happy hump days ladies! I am really dragging tushie today, but hopefully the day will keep going and we can move tht much closer to the long weekend!

Smurfy: I am sorry to hear about the family drama. As far as putting off TTC, it is really you and DH''s call. If there is some sort of reason you don''t feel ready or aren''t as excited about having a LO, then waiting is ok. Also, if you were counting on your family for childcare or someother kind of financial support and you aren''t talking to them, that could be a serious problem. However, if you and your DH feel ready and want to have a baby, then go for it. At the end of the day, you and you your DH have to make the choice about what''s right for your family, not your extended family.

Bella: Bummer about the whole baklava disaster. What a let down
38.gif
. Btw, I think you have an awesome attitude, and I am voting for the BFP in a week or so
9.gif
. Have fun on your vaca!

Brooks: Welcome to the TTC hood
35.gif
. Since you have already gotten a bit of a jump on getting back on track after BC and charting, etc, I hope that your stay is short and sweet. Congrats on getting a positive OPK. I would get on the BD''ing marathon ASAP. As for the late O''ing, I really don''t have any experience with it, but I agree with everyone''s advice to seek your Dr''s opinion and see if you can''t get some more feedback.

Lanie: Thanks for thinking of me. I don''t know what''s up with AF, but she came on really hard and quick, only lasting like 3 days. Sometimes she pops back up after a day, but its been two days, and I think she is gone for good. I am also leaning towards a false positive vs a true chemical pregnancy, b/c I saw some pics of other false positives and heard that the CB are not the best pregnancy tests. Oh well, I am armed and ready for this month! I got the Instead cups and pre-seed, and I roaring to go
2.gif

Geri: Ugh, that just really is cr*ppy about these instances, particularly the OB. I would let them have it. You think they would know to be more sensitive about the whole thing. Sheesh. Oh well, I guess all you can do is put on your brave face, and move forward. You are truely a strong and brave lady, and I know you will get through it. And tell your DH to keep being a
12.gif
, and keep up the good work. I have a feeling it will pay off soon. Big (((HUG)))

Bliss: Thanks for the walnut tip, I will get on it. Which Dr. Oz book is that, I kinda wanna check it out. Also, I am heading to NYC this weekend. Any recommendations for brunch on Sunday or cool things going on I need to hit up? Btw, I saw your pic in the BP thread, omg, you are a peanut and you are going to be the cutest pregnant mommy ever!

Modernsparkler: I love getting your comments/cheerleading on here, so lurk away
2.gif
I was just trying to make sure everyone who wanted to be included was. As for the genetic testing, I will say a little prayer that you are not a carrier for the gene so that you and your DH can make an adorable LO. Lots of dust!

LAJenn: I do remember all the drama that insued in the start of the year and am happy to hear that you at least got the MMR thing taken care of. I am very sorry to hear that Kaiser is futher complicating the problem though. That is just rotten of them! I would also second switching providers, if at all possible. Good luck with whatever you choose to do and maybe another desperate weepy call to them asking the Dr. to stay late tomorrow would help. Hopefully someone will have a heart there!

Lilyfoot: It sounds like you may have gotten a BFP to me. I wouldn''t necessarily wait a day or two either. If you had one BFP, it should definitely show up clearer in the morning. I would recommend waiting til the morning though b/c your urine will be more concentrated, and the HGC would have had time to build up a bit more for a darker line. Fingers crossed for you lady!
36.gif
PS Don''t get Clear Blue Pregnancy test, they are not good
29.gif

Steal: I think the opinion on that issue is somewhat varied. For me, I like to wait until 10DPO to test. Some ladies have gotten BFP''s as early as 8 DPO, but I just don''t want to deal with the stress, so I try to hold off as long as possible. If you can wait, why not try in the morning? Otherwise, I would try to wait another 2 days or so, just my 2 cents though...Either way, GOOD LUCK! Lots of sticky dust!
9.gif

As for me, hanging out on CD5 and getting ready for my next BD''ing marathon. I got my Wondfo HPT''s and my Instead Cups and my Preseed in the mail this week and I am ready for battle! Onward little swimmers!
36.gif
.
DH and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary (even though it''s not till next weekend) in NYC this weekend. So, I am looking forward to getting some quality, relaxing time with DH, and hoping that our little mini vaca will yeild some optimal baby making results!
I wish all you ladies who are/will be testing luck and for those in their 2WW, hang in there! For thos coming up on their BD''ing marathon, enjoy!

LF, a couple drinks at this stage in the game isn''t going to hurt the little one. You don''t start sharing blood until well into the double digit weeks. Do what makes you most comfortable, but don''t kill yourself over it with stress.

Lilyfoot, I think we were posting at the same time
2.gif
To answer you question, I don''t think it makes a difference if you pee in the cup or on the stick, but the tests are technically "midstream" tests, so you might as well do it that way. Also, if you don''t want to get a negative when you really are KU, I would recommend testing in the morning, and just not drinking tonight (say you have a tummy ache, headache, or whatever you like). GOOD LUCK!

Ryan Claire: How are you my dear? Did you start on the provera and clomid or are you going to hold out until your Dr appt?

Thank you, HH and dcgator! Well, I''m off to get my digi test
1.gif
I''ll update you ladies later!

btw, I don''t know what I would do without this thread! It''s sorta the LIW of TTC, if that makes any sense? A place to let all of my worries, questions, excitement out.

On that note, do watch out, b/c they said the site will be down for 24-28 hours starting at midnight, GRRRRRR!!! If we don''t hear from you before then, GOOD LUCK and we will hear from you when the site gets back up!

really??? the site is going to be down again? booooo

lilyfoot - I'm going to sleep now, so I will keep my fingers crossed for you all night.
2.gif

to be safe, I'd pee in a cup. that way you make sure you collect enough urine for the test.

The digital test said Not Pregnant. TMI: I didn''t get a lot of pee on the stick. Regardless, as of now I will consider myself not KTFU

Sorry lily. It might still be too soon though. Retest again in two days if AF doesn''t come!

LV, Bella, dcgator:Thank you all.As PS is going down I will let you guys know once we are up an running again. It would be nice you know?

Lillyfoot:Sorry honey.Damn the blunt digi test.

Lily - I''m sorry about the negative digi. I feel bad now because I was encouraging you to test all day!! Arggh. So sorry. Could be too soon or not enough P for the test.

Steal - Good Luck!
