The Zircon thread

I fell in love with @Acinom's own Zircon thread from 2017 when it was recently awarded #TBT LINK  I had forgotten all about this fabulous Zircon thread founded by, of course, Queen Acinom, who has shown us her own fair share of gorgeous zircons.

@Acinom and @CHRISTY-DANIELLE, and all the other posters here are showing us how good zircons can look, and are inspiring us put them on our shopping lists.

You are also a true zircon fanatic! ;)
Please post more pics of that amazing pink zircon!

I do really love them....especially the pink ones! I'll try to take more pics this weekend. Unfortunately, my gems always look dark and blah in my pics. I am ridiculously hopeless with my cellphone camera. Sigh....

My one and only zircon. I'm embarrassed to admit I can't remember how long I've had it or from whom I purchased it. The pictures are recent as I've offered it to my future DIL as an option for her engagement ring.

Oh it's so pretty! I love the shape and the color! I hope one of you gets this set, it deserves to be seen!

I’ve been looking for a pink zircon that isn’t too dark and shows pink! It sparkles to the moon!

Vance Gems does it again!

Yes, and it was pinker than some of his non bargain box gems. I love going through the bargain boxes. That’s how I found my elongated 2.15 carat demantoid.

Yes more! I didn’t even know zircon came in pink.

They’re hard to find, usually too brown and/or too dark in tone (more like brownish purple). I love the delicate pink, but the added sparkle of a high RI stone. Thanks!

I’m guessing these bargain boxes are in person? Sounds very intriguing…

I agree. My pink zircon is right on the edge of being a nice enough pink. I call it champagne pink and it has a bit of a peachy tone and sometimes a bit purplish pink. I really want to see more photos of yours!

Mine is a bit peachy too, but it’s still pink. It also has these purple flashes that I can’t seem to capture. In some lighting, it looks very pink, and in others more peachy, but not dull brown.

The sparkle is amazing as it is precision cut. It’s 1.9 carats. Sorry about the white goop, it’s art clay, so things stay in place because I didn’t want to lose it in the empty mounting.

I also bought a beautiful pink garnet that looked a lot like the Malaya’s they were selling for much more. It’s rare to find a lighter toned pink garnet.

I have to find a setting now.

I forgot about this thread…an Edwardian zircon brooch. I’m thinking of converting it to a bracelet.

Vance Gems also had an 8 carat green zircon that was so beautiful, it looked fake. It was a bizarre bluish green with a little silk. I’ve never seen anything like it, except other green zircon. It was a stunning piece. I wish I had a photo.

That's so cool! Need more pictures! Have you run across this color family often in zircon? I haven't seen many like this, how does it behave in motion?! I need to know!

* so, should have read that these questions were asked, but too bad. This is awesome.

It looks a lot like mine which I posted a couple of pages back. It’s really hard to get good photos of the colors especially because it changes but here’s a few more showing it’s various moods.

Thank you so much, @Mreader ❤️
I love everything about it - the large culet size, the setting, the way it lights up with every movement…I think it’ll be awesome as a bracelet. I’m so glad you like it so- thanks again! Here’s a profile shot…

It would make a super pretty bracelet but I would worry about the stones getting damaged. I have a similar one and was thinking of doing the same thing but I’m hesitant for that reason.

Your stone is gorgeous. I would say there’s more purple in your beautiful zircon though. Mine is mostly pink/peach color and some orange in certain lighting. .

Maybe if they are bezeled it would be protected. It would be such a showstopper I would still go for it.

Yes, that certainly is a consideration, @CaseyLouLou - thanks for that. I‘ll definitely keep that in mind moving forward.

I’d probably have to wear it by its lonesome so as not to damage the stones, but bezeling it is a great idea, @Mreader ❤️
I‘ve always envisioned it as bracelet; so, I‘d definitely go for it.
Thanks, @Mreader -XO

Question for the zircon experts:

Has anyone seen this color? Kind of a burnt orange. Really lovely -- almost a '70s appliance vibe! It's pretty big -- about 7 cts. Not even sure what I could do with it but I saw it in a shop and it caught my eye. Sorry for the truly terrible photo but the hue is about right.

Can I assume that this is untreated? They say it is but there is no report. Will any of the big US labs comment on treatment for zircon?

I might have posted them already, however, I still have 2 blue Zircons waiting to be set, both cut by Jeff W:

A windmill 7.04ct, 9.25 x 9.25mm, this is likely to be the next one to be set:

A cushion to be set in a 3-stone with pink Spinels in the same cut, the Zircon is 3.84ct, 7.41 x 7.41mm, the pink Spinels are about 4mm:

Yes, very nice and fairly rare color. I call this more of an orange Zircon than burnt orange, if picture is correct. Looks to have a yellow modifier. Pure oranges are harder to find than greens.
