Hi ladies!

I am deciding between two dresses and am hoping to recruit your help!

To get a feel for our wedding, it is going to be Oct. 9, 2010 in the Twin Cities. So... cool and crisp hopefully! With lots of beautiful fall leaves. The wedding is at a gorgeous but simple chapel (chapel makes it sound small, but it seats around 300) with ALL stone on the inside and very few windows... So dark and romantic. The reception is at a country club that reminds me of the Hamptons home in Something’s Gotta Give. Overlooks a lake too... It’s clean, classic and elegant!

The theme is inspired by the “Honey and Wheat” feature seen here: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/photogallery/honey-and-wheat?lpgStart=1&currentslide=1&currentChapter=1#ms-global-breadcrumbs...

Color palate: Warm, soft golden glow. Off white, butter cream, soft yellow, champagne, soft latte, neutral tones.

The first dress (which I actually have money down on, but never fear, they haven’t cut the dress yet!) can be seen here:

http://www.moniquelhuillier.com/

• Click on “The World of ML”

• Then click the bottom right picture

• The dress is on pictures 6-8 taken by “Trutel Photography & Video” ...

• You can also see the bottom part of the dress on pictures 1-3 taken by “Thompson Wedding Photography” but with a different top!

And the second dress (from Monique Lhuillier as well) is seen in the picture on the next post... But can be seen here too: http://www.stylemepretty.com/2009/11/13/destination-wedding-by-gia-canali-ii/

My thoughts on both... The top one is classic and stunning... My favorite part is the lace that goes up around the nape of the neck! The second one, dare I say, is a little “sexier” in a classy, elegant way... which I looove too! I wish I could show you them on me, but you’ll have to use your imaginations!! I am 5’7” and will be ordering the dress in a size 2 if that helps. Not very busty (unfortunately ;-)) a decent size B, let’s just say. Lighter olive skin tone... lighter hair ...

Looking forward to your thoughts!! :)

Dress No. 2

Beach-Wedding-5.jpg

The first one is AMAZING. I prefer the look of it. Something about seeing through a top...to the stomach on a wedding dress doesn''t appeal to me.

The first one though...GREAT!! I think you''d look amazing in it.

BTW...I wasn''t a memeber of PS when I saw your ring, and couldn''t say how BEAUTIFUL it is! But now, I''d like to say it''s one of the best looking rings, proportion and style wise that I''ve seen.

I do not, do not, do not like see thru wedding dresses. Nope, not at all.

For that reason I would choose #1.

Judging by your height, I think that #1 will look great on you. It is a beautiful dress and IS classy and elegant! (I do not think "classy and elegant" when I can see thru a wedding dress, no matter who the designer is. Sorry

OMG... I'm not going to be of much help because I think both are AMAZING!
I feel like the first one is definitely more romantic, and might fit better with your theme (I love the colour scheme btw), but the second one is also stunning
30.gif

ETA - wow, I didn't realize the second one was see-thru... If it was lined (like I thought), I'd love it. Otherwise, I think 1 is the winner!

i think #1 is way more beautiful than the 2nd dress!

I agree! The first one looks more like a Fall gown too.

Your colors sound lovely too! Good luck!

Dress #1 hands down. It is much more timeless and classic but still modern at the same time. I don''t like that dress #2 is so sheer. Plus in 10 years when you look at your wedding photos, dress #1 will be less likely to look outdated. Amazing dresses.

i love #1 but i also think it''d be pretty lined so it''s not see through. it''s gorgeous!!!

Thanks for your insight, ladies! Number one seems to be the most popular! I''ve put a call into the sales gal at Monique Lhuillier to see if the top for dress number two can be fully lined... Stay tuned!

You are so sweet!! Thank you so much! I do love my ring!

Dress #1 is FANTASTIC! Love it! Love the lace, love it all!

I love them both and am sure you would look beautiful in either, but do agree #1 has more of a fall/brisk weather feel to it. Although if you prefer to be a little less covered up, I think #2 with a full lining would be stunning as well!

Hands down, #1. I didn''t even need to look at number two after reading the description of your wedding.

Love the colors, Vote for #1, don't like see through.

Another vote for #1!

I vote #2, I just love the corseted top. I presume it is a two piece gown? I tried on something of ML''s that was very similar and adored it, it just did not fit our Greek Islands wedding theme....:sigh:

I know I am a minority in voting for #2 but I am not a fan of really "puffy" dresses at all...You sound like you have a very similar body type to me..show it off!

Either way you will look stunning!

Thanks, FSU! Love that you are in the minority as I need to hear both points of view as to why each dress is favored!! :-) And yes, they are both two piece dresses! I was really surprised that I fell in love with this style of dress. I've never worn it before actually! Which is part of the reason why I think I'm really drawn to it for this special, once in a lifetime occasion!

All the dresses I tried on prior were trumpet style and all about the figure. Here's the thing, though, I was in one of them for an hour or so and I got SO hot! Then when I tried on the dress style above, I fell in love not only because of the way the dress moved and the silhouette, but because it was CRAZY comfortable too! The reason I love number two is because I feel it showcases the figure better than number one. My best friend is coming in town this weekend for our engagement party, and she is going to come see both. We'll see what happens!!!

Thanks again for all of your positive, helpful feedback, ladies! I completely see what you are saying about number one fitting with the wedding style... and I still really adore that top too. Ah, stay tuned...

Your venue sounds awesome! I am not a fan of country clubs for the most part but I can''t imagine what you''ve described not being totally gorgeous.

Funny side note about a 300 person "chapel" in the Twin Cities area! My friend got married two years ago in that huge cathedral in St Paul. I think its actually called St Paul Cathedral. The priest made himself chuckle when he referred to it as the "little chapel on the hill." I love the Twin Cities area! So much so that I am visiting my friend out there for the second January in a row. I know, I''m nuts. Who volunteers to go there in WINTER?!! I find all the seasons there gorgeous and if I could convince my husband to move out there, I would do it in a heartbeat.

But I digress- Based on how you''ve described yourself it sounds like either gown would be a knockout on you. I am personally drawn to #1 because of the understated elegance in that lace top. Though, if you can get #2 lined that is definitely an option. I doubt your FI would expect a bride in a sexy corset top! Either way you probably can''t go wrong. It will be interesting to see what your friend thinks this weekend! Enjoy your engagement party.

I like both. But I think I like #2 more. Imagine it with gold lining...

Oh my!!! I think I love you!!! It's not often you hear someone say they love Minnesota in the winter!!! And to find someone who appreciates the wonderfulness that is the Twin Cities is a rarity! I've tried living in other "cooler" cities, but I always left my heart in the Twin Cities... So I never could stay away too long...

As for country clubs... Typically, I'm not a fan of country club receptions either, but let me tell ya... This one took my breath away. The biggest sellers were the lower ceilings (intimate), the hard wood floors (a must for me!) and the stunning view of the lake!!

As for the chapel, was it truly on a hill? Was it part of a university?? If so, I think we might be talking about the same chapel... It is truly our favorite in that it's not over the top with filigree and paintings (which are gorgeous, but not really our style)... It's simple and pretty dark (in a good way), so the ivory dress will really stand out!! Woo!

So when you said that you don't think FI will expect a bride in a sexy corset top... Do you think "sexy" isn't what I should go for on this day? I'm back and forth on this... Only because the top is so stunning... And in my opinion, the bottom still makes it a classic silhouette... But the first one, as my best friend put it when I showed her the pics, is total "Grace Kelly"... Classic, elegant, feminine... Why is this so hard?! Let me know what you think.

Thanks, FrekeChild! Dress number 2 comes in "sherbert" and "ivory" ... I think the picture above is in Sherbert ... And if you look at the link, the bottom right picture totally has a "sherbert" tone... Kinda cool! Not sure how it will look on my pale skin right now, but hopefully, if I choose the second dress, I''ll have a nice glow in early October! ;-)

I''m with her! The only person who should know what your abdominal flesh looks like is the groom.

Guess what?! Dress number 2 comes in a fully-lined option as well - so no tummy see-thru!

Well I am biased to number 1 since that is my dress but I have the long sleeves. So that is my vote!

Very glad to hear it! So now you just have to decide what you like best about each dress.

I still have to say, that I like #1 the best. It is a classic style that will look amazing thruout the ages.

i think i had my #''s mixed up. my vote is for the strapless one in a non-see thru version! g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s!

but, honestly, both are beautiful. you can''t make a mistake!

YES!!!! Love this idea for #2 - it would fit your colors and theme perfectly. #1 is lovely and classic, but I don't find it particularly unique. Number 2 is breathtaking, couture, a real statement dress! I LOVE IT!

However, having it lined is a must.

Funny side note about a 300 person ''chapel'' in the Twin Cities area! My friend got married two years ago in that huge cathedral in St Paul. I think its actually called St Paul Cathedral. The priest made himself chuckle when he referred to it as the ''little chapel on the hill.'' I love the Twin Cities area! First of all I want to apologize about a rude typo I made. I meant to say that I *CAN* imagine what you''ve described for your country club venue to be gorgeous. I accidentally wrote *cant''* which I TOTALLY didn''t mean! It sounds totally divine!

I''ve been to the Twin Cities 4 times already and seen every season except for Spring. Its such a neat place! Probably helps that I love hanging out with my friend and her husband when I''m there and they have a stellar wine cellar to sip from but we always have fun being out and about in the area.

I''m not sure if its affiliated with a university or not. Its Catholic and totally grand and cavernous inside. This place had an aisle a mile long too! I loved the pictures from their ceremony because of the stained glass windows and dome. They had their reception at Christos (used to be a train station).

When I say "sexy" I guess I mean "wedding sexy." By that I mean a fitted corseted top with a full skirt or maybe a non-cleavagey front with a low cut back and fitted silhouette. *Sexy* enough for the husband but demure enough for grandama too!

I suppose knowing that #2 has a fully lined option is a blessing and a curse! It makes the decision that much harder. I say go try them both on again, with some people whose opinion you trust (but won''t bulldoze you into a decision) and marinate in them a little bit. Walk around, sit down (to check for comfort), put on some heels and veil... just look at yourself and listen to the feelings in the pit of your stomach. I tried on 100 gowns and liked the way many of them looked on me but I got a feeling in the pit of my stomach when I put on the one I ended up buying. I also knew that my husband would love the gown I chose. Others that I liked I sorta of knew he wouldn''t go for. If you were to show both of the gowns (in a picture) to your FI, what would he say? Based on what you''ve told us about him and the pictures you''ve posted of the two of you I''d guess #1 because its more classic and he seems like an outdoorsy guy. For some reason I equate the outdoorsy, hiking thing to appreciating a nicely-executed classic looking gown.

Sorry for the rambling! I look forward to hearing about your final choice and other wedding plans!
