I like the left but both are gorgeous!

They are both so beautiful and I would be over the moon with either of them. It always amazes me that I am told what I want is so rare and hard to find. Yet, I see them on Pricescope so often. Are Pricescope members getting them all or is it really not so hard to find?
That''s an interesting observation - for me, before finding Pricescope I was very dissapointed because I simply could not find a cushion with this look! I live in San Francisco, and went to two jewelers who both had minimal knowledge on cushions. Both showed me CMB''s with the "crushed ice" look.

One even insisted that there''s no such thing as a CB anymore since those are antique cuts.

So is it hard to find? If you live in the West Coast I''d say yes. I''d imagine even if you live in New York, many places here are probably "buyer beware" as most jewelers are expert salespeople that hold back information from most buyers.

This forum has provided tremendous education and pointed me to a vendor who not only found me what I wanted, but also showed me several other cutting patterns (CB and CMB) just for variety. I''d say it''d be nearly IMPOSSIBLE for me to find this service without PS without wasting a lot of time.

I love love love the one on the left, that is my dream diamond! I love the chunky facets

Hi EDL!

I live in SF, too, and have been hunting for a stone for the last 3 months. I agree with your experience. My experience with local B&Ms has been rather disappointing.

That said, I love the chunky cushion on the left. It''s a beautiful cut and reminds me of the old stones! I have an OEC with chunky facets and love the way the faceting plays with light.

The one on the right is beautiful, as well. Let your girl pick her favorite. She can''t go wrong!

kimikocat, I''m glad you agree with me! At some points in my search I felt like banging my head into a wall.

Actually SF has a few things to learn from NYC, like where to hide all the homeless people, how to make public transit systems that actually work, etc...but I digress.

She didn''t really have a strong opinion, so I picked for her...

And the winner is....

And one more! The darkness in the center is actually the reflection caused by my camera (a big black SLR with a giant lens).

Both stones look incredible! Wish I had that kind of budget (for a D/VS1)!
I''m overbudget already! I think I''ll have to sell my car soon and start riding my bike to work :)

Diamonds last longer than a car, right?

I think you did a really nice job. The one you picked is simply gorgeous. How are you going to set it?

Great pick! Your girl will LOVE it!

I''ve also heard that the CB are very rare with the 8 facets.

good choice!

Woohoo, it''s gorgeous!!! I can''t wait to see how you set it!

Thanks! I must credit Mark for selecting such wonderful stones to choose from.

I haven''t decided on the setting yet, but it will either be a simple cathedral solitare (something like Leon Mege R572 or R907) or the Tiffany Novo.

My GF really likes the Novo, but ideally I''d like something that isn''t so common. I''m thinking a good compromise would be a cathedral solitare with micro-pave on the shank and double claw prongs. Mark has a setting that''s fairly similar (called Sophia) but I''m gonna browse around PS before deciding to see if any other ideas pop up.

Thanks! I really hope so.

I''m not sure on the rarity, but 8 facet CB''s are hard to find in the West Coast. I saw lots of crushed ice, which didn''t work for me.

Wow, such a gorgeous stone! Congrats!!!

I was actually waiting for you to say you''d get the one on the right, so that I can grab the left one myself!!!

If you like the one I picked, Mark just purchased a smaller E VS1 that''s virtually the same cut, beautiful chunky facets. You should call him!

How small is smaller?

I like the Leon micro-pave cathedral solitaires a lot. The Novos do seem common to me. And that cushion seems to call out for something beautiful and vintage -- but also simple.

YAY! Its beautiful! She will love it!

edl: Just curious. Do you have more information on this stone?

I'm not yet ready to purchase a stone any time soon, so guess I'd better not bother Mark now.

Edited to add: can't figure out how to quote message.

Sillysweetie I don''t know all the details of it, but I think it''s between 1.5-1.75 ct, E VS1. Didn''t see the GIA but at a glance I''d say the table, depth, and cut type is very similar to the stone I purchased. Big chunky facets, but a small cutlet so there''s not a big "eye" in the middle (if you don''t like that look). It''s a winner.

He''s purchased this one, so you should call him just to get a picture. Couldn''t hurt right?

Kimikocat - I was browsing through the VC thread and absolutely love their detail work, it got me hooked. I also noticed you''re size 3.5, same as my GF! What VC setting do you think would work best with this stone? Or should I just swing by their shop to chat?

YAY! Another convert!!! It''s a BEAUTIFUL cushion. I say go Leon and don''t look back. I love a cathedral setting with pave along the shank and his claw prongs cannot be beat.

Beautiful stone, I love the square shape and chunky facets.

Hi EDL! Sorry, I just checked this thread! That''s right, you''re in SF, so you can visit VC if you want. I would definitely recommend visiting, because you can see the pieces in person, and they look/feel so different. They always look quite heavy in the photographs, but in real life they are much more delicate. I know that Larry will work w/ you to customize the design if you decide that you want to change things up. Give him a call -- the number is on their website. When you do go, bring photos/specs of the cushion. I''m always a big fan of designing around the stone.

Does your GF have a strong preference for certain styles? What does she like to wear (jewelry-wise, clothing)? What types of accessories does she seem to prefer?

Give me a few and I''ll post some photos of simple, classic styles that I *think* will work with your stone.

Here are 3 classic VC wedding sets.

3VCweddingsets.jpg

Left to right, the style numbers are: 869, 484/584 (with the fleur-de-lis head), and 457/575.

If you want to see the 484 combination more clearly, go here to see a PSer''s photographs of her e-ring: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/vc-engagement-ring-pics.82045/

I thought of this particular style for you, because the cushion is a bit square-ish, and follows the pattern of the fishtail prongs. Keep in mind that these styles are very different from the Novo!

If you have the budget -- and your GF has the confidence -- the pierced styles are very, very different, and totally Old Hollywood glam.

This is one of my favorites. It is VC style number 1007.

p-lg_1007.jpg

EDL - sorry to harp on the other diamond. Any idea on the price range? Is it over or under 15 K?

Kimikocat - My girlfriend definitely stylish but not overly so - I guess the "casual luxury" term probably applies to her. She has all the name brand stuff (Manolo, Louboutin, Botega, Balenciaga, etc) but no logo items. She can wear her fancy stuff with $20 pink flamingo converses. She has a few rings, and they have some carvings but nothing overly fancy. Watch-wise, she has a SS Patek, fairly understated with a grey face.

Her favorite outfit is probably her baggy jeans (I don''t know if that fashion ever made a comeback this year), Converses or Tod loafers, and a cashmere cardigan. She doesn''t wear makeup very often, thank god.

I have a feeling she liked the Novo for the micropave, and I''m all for that but I''m thinking about a halo micropave with a colored stone as a gift a few years down the road once we''re married. Ideally I''d like the E ring to be very unique, full of character, and classic. That''s why the VC''s caught my attention immediately.

I have a feeling in person the VC''s are very elegant and also delicate looking. That''s exactly what I''m hoping for...

I don''t know if she can pull off the 1007, do you think it''d look too big on a 3.5 finger?
