EDL - sorry to harp on the other diamond. Any idea on the price range? Is it over or under 15 K?
That''s a really good question, I sent an email to Mark but I think he''s out of town until Monday. He''s very nice and easy to work with, you should call him and ask for a photo!

Left to right, the style numbers are: 869, 484/584 (with the fleur-de-lis head), and 457/575.

If you want to see the 484 combination more clearly, go here to see a PSer''s photographs of her e-ring: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/vc-engagement-ring-pics.82045/

I thought of this particular style for you, because the cushion is a bit square-ish, and follows the pattern of the fishtail prongs. Keep in mind that these styles are very different from the Novo!
All three are absolutely stunning but I''m a bit partial to the 457. I wonder how it''d look with the basket from the 484?

I looked over the VC thread, Selkie''s rings on page 6 are awesome. I love the beadwork (milgrain?), detail, and profile.

edl: Just curious. Do you have more information on this stone?

I''m not yet ready to purchase a stone any time soon, so guess I''d better not bother Mark now.

Being obsessed in PS already got me into trouble (high hopes for my future ring) and I really don''t want to start getting quotes from vendors unless BF is ready to propose.

Edited to add: can''t figure out how to quote message.

Sillysweetie I don''t know all the details of it, but I think it''s between 1.5-1.75 ct, E VS1. Didn''t see the GIA but at a glance I''d say the table, depth, and cut type is very similar to the stone I purchased. Big chunky facets, but a small cutlet so there''s not a big ''eye'' in the middle (if you don''t like that look). It''s a winner.

He''s purchased this one, so you should call him just to get a picture. Couldn''t hurt right?

I checked Mark''s inventory but it seems I can''t find this particular stone.

You said you have emailed him about the stone? Then I''ll wait for your update instead of emailing him myself. Please do me a favour and post additional information you get from Mark.

$13K per Mark. Better start pushing the BF!

We actually already bought a cushion last weekend. My boyfriend has been working with him for about 4 months and thinks he is wonderful. I just got involved last week. I don''t know what''s wrong with me but I can''t stop looking. I guess it is the eye versus mind clean issue. I couldn''t really tell the difference between a G and a F. Must stop obsessing ...

Awesome! What did he buy? (if you don''t mind me asking)

Kimikocat - My girlfriend definitely stylish but not overly so - I guess the ''casual luxury'' term probably applies to her. She has all the name brand stuff (Manolo, Louboutin, Botega, Balenciaga, etc) but no logo items. She can wear her fancy stuff with $20 pink flamingo converses. She has a few rings, and they have some carvings but nothing overly fancy. Watch-wise, she has a SS Patek, fairly understated with a grey face.

Her favorite outfit is probably her baggy jeans (I don''t know if that fashion ever made a comeback this year), Converses or Tod loafers, and a cashmere cardigan. She doesn''t wear makeup very often, thank god.

I have a feeling she liked the Novo for the micropave, and I''m all for that but I''m thinking about a halo micropave with a colored stone as a gift a few years down the road once we''re married. Ideally I''d like the E ring to be very unique, full of character, and classic. That''s why the VC''s caught my attention immediately.

I have a feeling in person the VC''s are very elegant and also delicate looking. That''s exactly what I''m hoping for...

I don''t know if she can pull off the 1007, do you think it''d look too big on a 3.5 finger?

I''ve worn the 1007. I''ve tried on a bunch of the pierced styles. If she''s an understated sort of girl, they are probably not for her... But you never know. I don''t have any handshots of myself wearing the pierced ones, but if you really really like them -- I could be persuaded to take some for you. I just love them. But taste is so personal... And the e-ring is intimate!

Does your GF want to be involved in the search for a setting? Or do you want it all to be hush-hush and a surprise? :)

She does sound like a very understated, lowkey sort of person... I think the classic wedding sets are a nice choice. They''re subtle, the craftsmanship is there, and you wouldn''t necessarily know that it''s a fabulous piece...if you didn''t know how to look.

Yes, the beadwork is called "milgrain" -- I suppose for the delicacy of grains...? The style number for that one is 851, and it comes with a matching wedding band (951). I love Selkie''s ring...I''ve tried on that set and the flowers are more 3D and detailed than the photos would lead you to believe. There''s a also a similar style with orange blossoms (the flowers from 457) instead of roses.

My first e-ring -- if you didn''t see my story in the VC thread -- was the 457, with the chased flowers and shields. It was 18K yellow with plat shields. I loved it. Simple, gorgeous. I had the 4-prong head. I think it would look even more Deco with the fishtail/square head from the 484. The 4-prongs allow you to look directly into the stone and see the profile. It''s kind of mesmerizing. I have a handshot somewhere of that ring, but it isn''t very good. Your center stone will be much larger than mine -- I had a 1 carat or so OEC in mine. It''s very classic -- 457 -- and very distinctive. You won''t see many of them on the streets...

ps. My current e-ring has a center stone that''s just shy of 2 carats. If you look in the VC thread you''ll see what that looks like on a small hand...

I think she wants me to create a ring just for her. She''s very surprised by the effort I''ve put into this thus far so I think anything reasonably beautiful and unique will make her happy.

I''m gonna browse those VC threads again. Hopefully I''m getting close!

Thanks again for your help!

Hi EDL!

You''re totally welcome. If you want anymore "chick input" -- let me know. I have an unfortunate obsession with jewelry so I think I''ve tried on about 1000 different ring styles. Split shank, domed, pave...you name it.

You''ve got great taste, so I have complete confidence that the ring you create for her will be stunning. We should all be so lucky with our men... And stones... ;)

So I went down to VC today and met with Larry himself. What a nice guy! We talked for awhile and he showed me a ton of settings.

I think your judgement must be spot on, because in the end I pretty much decided on the 484/584 (in platinum, I love the way this one looks in yellow gold but I don''t think my gf can pull it off) with the fleur-de-lis head. It''ll be AMAZING...I can''t wait to get it done.

Actually if I told him to just show me what you recommended, I could''ve saved myself a $300 tow fee - but that''s another story.

SF DPT sucks.

Thank you (again)! I''m gonna make my gf buy you a gift once she gets her ring.

Hi EDL!

So sorry about the 300 dollar tow charge. SF is something special, huh? I always park in one of the structures around there because I''m paranoid.

I''m so happy that you liked what you saw, and even more flattered that you chose to go with one of my suggestions. I think it was something about the shape of the cushion, and liking to see strong geometric shapes paired with other strong geometric shapes, that brought me to the 484/584 combination. Had you picked out a RB I would have probably suggested something different.

How long will it take VC to produce your set? Can''t wait to see photographs!

Awww -- no one''s ever offered to buy me a gift before! That''s awfully sweet. :) *starts to scheme* No, honestly, that is a really sweet gesture but I''m happiest knowing that you are happy with your choice! So no need for gifts!

Well, yesterday just wan''t my day. Street closures, running late, Larry talking slow...ah well. I learned my lesson, definitely going to the parking structure next time around.

The 484/584 setting really is very elegant and classy, but also understated. I think she''ll be able to daily wear this ring without too much attention. If we went with micropave everywhere, it''d just be too flashy.

It''s funny how VC settings really look like bloated monsters on the computer, but in real life they are so delicate and detailed. It''s truly amazing. I also like that Larry''s doing everything in-house in San Francisco. It''s an added perk to support the locals.

I''m not sure how long it''ll take, I''m getting the stone sent from NYC tommorow so I''ll ask Larry when I drop in on Friday. Hopefully it won''t take too long!

Thank you again - for saving me from going down the micropave/halo road!
