Ladies, I was wondering about what is the best way to choose a Novo. Is it with your eyes only, or are there any set PS guidelines about modified brilliant cushions out there? I wasn''t able to find any table of the desirable proportions, like I was following when getting my princess.

Ooh exciting Chiquitapet! I think the best way with the Novos is to choose with your eyes. I don''t know if there are specs to look for with the modified brilliants. I have read in the past that the cuts on the Novos are not as consistent as with, say, the RBs. I had about 7 Novos to choose from and some definitely outshined the others. T&Co is excellent in the cut category, but I noticed with the Novos the symmetries/polishes were seemingly more Very Good (there was even only a Good on one of the stones!) as opposed to Excellent. The VG won''t be noticeable but I would avoid the ones considered Good. You should be able to get this info from the SA. Just try on as many as you can and pick the one you love
30.gif
. When I slipped my ring on, it just felt so amazingly right. I had tried on many other Tiffany rings but none made me as tingly as the one we bought! I was shaking and I thought I was going to cry! It was one of the more sappy moments in my life (in a good way!)

Let us know how your visit with the Novos goes, when it happens!

Thanks for your input, girls! I''ll definitely have to check out WF. And why have I never tried on the legacy? I''m not even sure what it looks like!
6.gif
Hmmm...I think another trip to Tiffany''s maybe in store
31.gif

LabRatPhD - I''ll have to check out your furbabies...I love your little pug avatar! I saw a pug this weekend at a petstore, it was only 8 weeks old! I love when they''re that little - they have the pudgy tummies! Too cute. I''ll have to post pics of my kids.

Chiquitapet - I absolutely love the Novo!
30.gif
I''m not sure that Tiffany''s has certain guidelines regarding the cut. I''ve been told by every jeweler that cushions do not have any guidelines, and you have to choose with your eyes. But I''d be interested to know so let me know if you find out!

Blackpaw, Labrat, Idreamofcushions. Ladies, you`re totally right. I`ll choose my Novo (when the time comes) based on my eyes and the tingles inside. I hope I feel like you did, labrat, when you tried on ''the one''. Sounds like such a great moment!! I was surprised when I tried the 1ct Novo couple of weeks ago (that`s the only one I ever tried), as I found the setting so stunning but was disappointed in the stone. It looked dark and not as sparkly as I`d expect from Tiffany''s, even under their magical lights.

Idreamofcushions, you don''t know how the legacy band looks? Well, you need to get yourself to Tiffany''s stat!

IDOC - my pug and my german shepherd puppy are posted in the furbabies thread. I know what you mean about pug puppies'' tummies - SO CUTE. SO and I got our pug, Quincy, from a breeder. We picked him out at 8 weeks but took him home when he was 12 weeks. He was the runt of the litter - he was so scrawny except for his little potbelly! He has filled out well now. Our german shepherd pup, Chloe, was a wonderful shelter find and she had a bit of a tummy too. She has gotten so big now! SO has to drag me away from pug puppies though - I can''t resist their squishy little selves!
You MUST check out the Legacy band at Tiffany''s. It is stunning and has a lovely vintage vibe.

Chiquitapet - there are definitely some sparkly Novos out there, but for some reason it seems they aren''t as consistent as the round brilliants. That is part of the reason that I became more drawn to the Tiffany setting. Every RB we saw in the Tiffany setting just popped, no matter the size. I know there are differing opinions about this but I honestly think the Novo looks best in 1.5 cts and up. The first Novo I saw was a 1.24 ct and I honestly wasn''t impressed. Maybe it was just a less than stellar cut. I may also just be too much of a size snob
40.gif
Either way, you should definitely have the SA bring in as many as you can and pick based on how you feel. I hope you find one you absolutely love!
30.gif

thanks for letting me know about the furbabies thread labrat - i mosied on over there

chiquitapet - yay im very excited for you

how thrilling will it be to try on lots of pretty sparklies until you get that tingly feeling!!

So I just did a google search on Elsa Peretti, to see some of her other peices of work, and stumbled upon this site

Too Good To Be True?

They''re "About Us" page says it''s the real deal, and it says the same in the FAQ section. Just wondering what you ladies think!

I wouldn''t trust it. Authentic Tiffany products are sold at Tiffany stores only (Signed Pieces also often has authentic T&Co jewelry pop up). The fact that they don''t accept returns is red flag as far as legitimacy of the company.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! I wouldn''t purchase anything from this site. The photos they show are from Tiffany''s website which is another red flag because those photos are copyrighted. I''ll bet they sell replicas that turn out not to look so much like the real thing which is why they don''t show it...

I''ve missed something about WF....but me personally, I prefer the real thing. I''ve often thought "If not Tiffany, then why copy it? Get something unique to itself!"

You''ve never tried on the Legacy e-ring, or wedding band?

Hey Tiffany gals -- this appears to be oldish news but Tiffany and Co will be launching a new collection of engagement rings/wedding bands in May 2009 called the "Bezet Collection":

Tiffany Bezet Press Release

Check it out!

That's right! Here is a photo for better viewing.

I myself don't think I care for this style. But I'm sure many will love it. I'll have to see them in person...that usually always determines if you like an item or not.

The new rings kind of look like the stackers we all love. I saw some stackers at Tiffanys too when I was there.

Chiquitapet, Do a search on the Novo cut, there have been some threads dealing with that topic.

I have been out of this discussion because I have been so bummed about the LDR. But I am starting to feel better now. I might not be engaged as soon as I though, but I know it is in the future. Me and BF were talking Tiffany''s vs Leon this week :-).

Oh, how beautiful the new line is. I had no idea LIW was the place to go for Tiffany's updates!!

I saw a single bezeled pear pendant last time I was in there that just stole my heart, and I couldn't find anything like it online on their site. I wonder if they pre-released any of the pieces from this collection to see what public response would be. Hmmm. It looked just like that Pear Bezel ring, only no shank (obviously) and it had the TINIEST most discreet bail. The lady said it was a new item for them.

Dreamgirl, you have sort of a Tiffany's fetish if I remember correctly? You don't like the new line?

Yes ma'm it now is!!!

All Tiffany, all day, all the time...

And yes, I admit I'm mad about Tiffany. It's a lovely line, just not 'my' style I suppose..as I said, I will have to check it out in the store. After all, I never thought I'd like the Tiffany Setting and after trying it on...pure love.
9.gif
However, the wedding band is whispering to me at the moment...hmmm

Swing and Jazz are all lovely. It does confuse me which pieces belong to which though, since there are so many similarities among the lines. And now this line... I wonder why they couldn't announce this as an addition to one of the existing lines? Drama? Press attention?

Makes you wonder
33.gif
.

Are you getting married soon DG? I'm not up on the BWW/LIW lists anymore, unfortunately. Which swing band are you getting? Pic (I'm too lazy to look!)?

I''m with you on this, DG...I am not too interested in this line. I tend to go for the more classic looks. I''m still holding out for my Tiffany setting solitaire and shared-prong band!

I''m definitely going to keep hanging out here even after I get engaged. I love this thread!

Yeah, it seems like the new stuff would have made a good addition to the jazz line, instead of a whole new line, yanno?

I love this line for the round and pear, but not as much for the other shapes. I wish they had asscher and cushion ones, I think that would look fab.

Of course we will :-).

Me an BF had a little chat last night, so that helped me out a lot. Oh, and he still thinks Tiffanys makes the best solitaire e-ring, and he asked me how to find a H&A diamond there.
31.gif
However, we both agreed that Leon makes the better bead set, which is kind of what I am interested in. I love Leon''s solitare''s, but I feel like you need a big stone for it to look nice. And I don''t want a super massive stone. So I guess if he decides solitaire I will end up with Tiffany''s, and if he decides bead set he will hopefully go with Leon. Of course, I have no idea when that will happen, he has done this kind of thing before.

Hi LT, I think it's great that you are keeping your mind open and keep your options open. What I love about PS is that we all strive to get the nicest jewelry quality for the money that we can get. And of course, sometimes that's a branded ring, and sometimes it's not. I personally loved the Lucida, but I wanted a larger stone so we went generic. And honestly, I've seen some flaws in some Tiffany rings in the stores. I've seen dead cushions (Novo), crooked milgrain (Legacy), and uneven pave (some bands I was considering), so brand name doesn't mean quality every time. The reason I usually avoid threads like this is because A) it seems people tend to assume that brand names automatically mean quality (when even the nicest brands can make a few band pieces or design choices), or that they are putting an unreasonable expectation on their mates (face it, we all know the women who are like "if it's not Harry Winston, don't bother to propose") or, C) put down other people's decisions to go with a non-brand. It's so nice to see that you aren't falling into those traps, and I can't wait to see what you end up with!

What I like about the new line is that it's simple and elegant, yet contemporary without being too modern. I know that Tiffany used to (when it first started) be a trend setter, but now I think of them more as a trend... confirmer. I love knowing that bezels are here to stay! I want that pendant (though honestly, for the price of that sucker I could have a MUCH larger and eye catching pear if I go generic, which is probably what I'll do).

I've been in Tiffany with Tiffany inspired pieces (Excel's solitare set with ACAs and ERD cushions set in Ritani solitaires), and frankly... a lot of the 'generic' peices outshine the Tiffany peices. But then again... It's always so lovely to have that blue box!
Musey, I totally agree (not surprising), but as far as heart e-rings go, that's one of the nicest I've seen. Asscher's and cushions would rock. OH, the Legacy cut (not the ring, the diamond cut) in that setting would be beautiful!!!

Okay, so this is my first time venturing over into this thread (I really only like Tiffany silver pieces, but in general I think most of the rings are kind of overpriced for what you get
40.gif
) but I really wanted to say, Ltl, Leon does really great delicate work. I can''t remember who, but I know somebody on here had a smaller stone, and the basket on her solitaire was TDF! So please don''t pick just based on size/style. Really check out both options and go with what you
30.gif
! Obviously the six prong is a classic look and fantastic if that''s what you like, but I''m sure Leon could do something amazing at any size.

Sorry for the threadjack, ladies! Back to your Tiffany oogling!

Gypsy and Princess,

Thanks for the kind words. I think Pricescope has opened my mind. I love Tiffany's, if it wasn't for them I would never be interested in jewelry, but I love other jewelers too. My BF is the one who really loves the Tiffany solitaire, I think he was planning on getting a Tiffany e-ring b/f he met me. I love their solitaires, too, but I am open. Either way, I am lucky to have a BF who has this kind of taste.

However, my favorite ring right now is from Leon and is this one with this kind of profile view. The great thing about this, is that it is set with a 1 ct stone and looks great. That is about the size I want. For comparsion, I pulled up the Tiffany bead set ring with a 1 ct diamond and put the 2 rings side by side. I wish I could do that here, but both the sites are flash. I asked him which one he liked better, and he said the Leon one, mainly because of the prongs. I agree. However, I think neither of us are fans of the Leon solitaire for a 1 ct stone click here. It is just too thin for my tastes, for a larger stone, I think Leon's setting is perfect. But for a 1 ct stone, I prefer the Tiffany Classic Solitaire. He wants to surprise me, so I am trying to give him my preferences without getting too involved.

BTW, Gypsy, what ever happened to that stone you were doing a custom made setting for (around Christmas??). Did it ever get done? Did I just miss it??

Does this help Ltl?

(I hate to mention this in the Tiffany thread, but the head on the Tiffany ring is crooked.)

Leon v Tiffany bead set.jpg

Hi LT, you are definitely lucky that your man has such great taste. I do prefer the Leon bead set with that basket for a one carat. It''s really beautiful.

As for my stone... my colored stone right? My mandarin citrine? Long Story short, my husband was laid off... so I nixed that project. But, a couple other things also happened, and now I''m thinking of a diamond pendant project (but not, yet, the pear bezel pendant) for April/ May.

I know! I''m almost tempted to try to go into photoshop and try to fix it, but A) I''m not that great with photoshop, and B) it''d still be crooked on their website! But it''s driving me crazy!!!

I love Tiffany designs but I do agree that the name does not automatically equal perfection. While my e-ring ended up being from Tiffany, SO and I looked at about many rings at the store which were mixed in their brilliance. Like you Gypsy, we saw some fairly bland Novos. When I changed my mind and became interested in the Tiffany setting, 2 out of the 4 candidate diamonds scored less than 2 on the HCA. In the end, we are thrilled with our final choice because we got a gorgeous ring and the service was excellent. SO is big on the "what you see is what you get" scenario, so it was fantastic when our SA brought in a ton of rings to choose from within our specs and we picked the one we liked. Plus the little blue box is beautiful.
28.gif

I did not get into jewelry until recently and I am by no means obsessed with Tiffany, but I do appreciate their designs (the Schlumberger pieces are exquisite) and the quality of the few pieces that I do own is excellent. Joining PS has made me aware of other vendors and it is something I will consider in the future for my purchases. For now, I am just waiting for SO to propose to me with my dream ring
30.gif

LtlFirecracker - My SO was the same way - he wanted to get me a Tiffany ring even before we were seriously dating (maybe he saw the Sex and the City episode where Trey takes Charlotte to Tiffany)! I think if the guy has the means and wants to buy the branded ring, he should go for it!
Leon Mege does incredible work and I am determined to have at least something made by him at some point in my life!
