These are what i dream about at night! What a beautiful collection

Thanks, crasru, packrat, platinumrock, Lovinggems, Pandora II, virgoruby, Kismet, MakingTheGrade, oddoneout, ma re, luckynumber, bella mezzo, catmom and davi_el_mejor!

Kismet, luckynumber, oddoneout, I'll be sure to pass you comments on to DH. He'll like to hear your compliments on his photography skills.

ma re, I can't pick a favorite either. One day it's the tsav, the next it might be peridot or spinel. I love the citrine, too.

Sound Effect: Intake of breath!

Wow. Spectacular collection.

So jealous. And also so glad to see I''m not the only one with loose stones!!!

What kind of camera did you DH use, and how did he set that shot up? It''s better than most of the photos the ''pros'' take.

LOL StonieGrl... love the Intake of breath comment! hehe

I mentioned in my post to amethystguy how we set it up. DH uses a Nikon D300 and Tamron 90mm lens. He took the photo with a very high aperture and used a tripod and self-timer so he wasn''t touching the camera with the photo was taken. No matter how still you are it ends up blurry if you''re holding the camera. We also used a light tent for this photo shoot and DH needs to do post processing since he shoots in raw mode. Here''s another photo from that day...

And the tsav all by itself...

Very nice!

I''m a big fan of Tamron lenses. I have one for my film Nikon.

Thank you for the photography tips but alas, I don''t think I am capable of even 1/5th of that.

I had to look up Jeff and Joe''s photography as I''m not familiar with them. Wow! Great photos! Beautiful work. I asked my DH if he would take requests to shoot for other people and he said ''hell yeah!''. LOL! I don''t think he thinks he''s as good as he is. He was excited to hear the comments on this thread.

The photos I posted was his first attempt at shooting gemstones using the setup I described. I think if he keeps practicing they''ll be even better.

give it 20 times..50 times 100 times and they will be spotless..I will def. take you up on that offer sometime here soon..now to figure out how to contact another member..yea Jeff and Joe are the creme de la creme..although they mostly do crystals and specimens..i know thats all jeff does..makes a living just shooting crystals, gems and minerals..have to be pretty good if thats all you do..hmm..how to find you..does TL, LD, or Chrono have a way of getting a hold of you? I actually will have 3 stones that will need to be photographed..the rough is coming and i am going to have George Ellis cut them..need some good shots..just make sure and don't try and post any links or contact info..it's against forum rules

No one from this forum has my contact info since it''s against PS rules so I''m not sure how that would work. We''re heading out right now to do some errands and will check back later this afternoon.

They are just stunning, and I want your DH to take pics of my stones too!

(And there are ways of finding people off PS...)

WOW, this looks like a vendor photo. Has your husband ever considered working as a gemstone photographer?

He''s very talented!

Such beauty!!!! I love your pretties!!!

Thanks, Freke! I''m sure my DH would love to take photos of your stones. You have some gorgeous rings and stones and I love love love your spinels!!

platinumrock, Thanks! I''ll pass the compliment along to my DH. He hasn''t done much gemstone photography, but I''m sure he could get into it. I''ve posted some of his other photos in the past, mostly landscape photos, but he loves all types of photography. We''ll have another practice session with my stones and see if he can refine his technique.

loriken, thanks! :)

Mike R, I have some ideas, but nothing for sure yet. I''m hoping to start a project soon though. My first! Yay!

kismet, good idea! I sent my DH''s email to them so hopefully they''ll do that.

LTP, Wow, thanks! That''s means a lot coming from you with the amazing collection you have and and also your great photography skills. Thank you!!

brandy_z28, Thanks, I love those stones as well. The citrine is cut beautifully as is the peridot because it sparkles like mad!

amethystguy, I sent the mods my DH''s email to send to you.

HI:
