To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Tan:

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

I'm out. $120 was my limit.

(or maybe this is just a bluff to put y'all off the scent?)

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

No worries about me bidding....too sleepy for me.....

Dzop,
Note to self. If you don't like paying a lot for auctions, don't bring attention to listings.

Crazy, or crazy like a fox? ;)

Several minutes left...I am watching it as anxiously as a soccer game.

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

amazing

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

So is that expensive for a spinel? I'm just starting to get into colored stones again... but the last pink spinel i got was $20 from like 5 years ago so this seems like a lot to me!

I WISH that was expensive for a spinel. Not even close, though. See here- http://rwwise.com/products/id|1032

I have to laugh whenever I read the description of that Mahenge where Richard says that he bought it before the price tripled. Apparently he is not passing that savings along to the purchaser. :naughty:

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

So, did Dzop end up with it?

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

I had a spelling goof up, sorry. Fixed it now.

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

Nope, I was out of the bidding at $120, then decided I'd go up to $150, but the stone was at $190.

I think for a blue spinel that isn't one of those Vietmanese radioactive bugger, it went for a price on the high side of fair. Certainly, that's the highest I've seen for a blue spinel at a Tan auction by more than double!

Actually the price still ended up very very reasonably. I'm surprised!! Well Dzop, hope you got it!

You think this is expensive?

Look at this!

Now granted, we are talking about a major artist here and a heirloom piece... So it may be worth the price. But I nearly fainted the first time I saw it.

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

Holy crap!

okay the small pink one i had was about 1ct, and a pale bubblegum pink. nowhere that kind of color.. but still.

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

Darn, it looks like the winner wasn't from the board. That's a real bummer, b/c I was dying to see IRL pictures!

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

Dzop,
How do you know? Maybe they're waiting to get it before they "come clean."

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

The price certainly went up by a lot so Tan will be a very happy man! I agree that $190 seems high for the quality but apparently the winner deemed it worth it.

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

I still think whomever purchased the stone got a good deal on it. $50/carat was my highest bid. If I were betting it would be that LD got it. That lady has one serious jewelry collection...I sure hope she pops in with pictures when she gets it. I'm being optimistic though. I hope she got it! :D

Re: To the other bidder for the 3ct grey-blue spinel from Ta

I for one am very curious to see what the IRL color is like. I suppose that would determine whether $190 was the steal of the year, or whether the winner overpaid.
