even with the 3 inches cut off i think that i like the AV better at least the part before the mermaid thingy area. the mermaid bottom part just seems to cut you off and doesn''t flow well - i look at it and am expecting to see more of your figure but then it just stops. i think a trumpet skirt style would look killer on you. a dress that is fitted and has the empire waist detail with trumpet skirt would look so nice on you.

i wish i could find a dress that looks like what i am thinking! has anyone else run across any dresses that fit this description?

Trumpet style skirt, hmmm....Is this one more ''trumpet''? I doesn''t have the empire waist though. I am trying this on this weekend. I like the tulle and girly-ness. Just don''t know if I can unhook my attachment to the RA fabric and beadwork.

Thanks everyone so far for feedback.

You guys have made some awesome points so far. By all means, more is welcome!

what about this one (it is AV)

I don't know.....I feel like it is a bit "heavy"...... Even the Alvina was a very light brushed satin and very thin material.
I also feel that beads plus satin = too formal

http://www.christosbridal.com/gowns/2007/07127.shtml is very pretty, light and flowy. Romantic, but seems to have a little more shape than the reem.

Ringster- Thanks for the suggestions. I don't really see anything I love, but I guess you never know until you try it on.
I kinda liked that empire waist Jasmine, but I tried on a few LaSposa's almost exactly like that and they just didn't do it for me.

The two I have posted are definetly my favs for now. I might be posting more options after trying on this weekend.

In the meantime, anyone else who wants to chime in on likes/ dislikes of the Reem and Alvina, please feel free!

Gypsy- Thanks for the Christos link. That might be a consideraton if it didn't have that runched vertical top. But pretty close to my taste. There is a Romona Keveza almost like that (with a lace scalloped top) that I liked, but haven't been able to find anywhere.

The more I see the Reem on you, the more I love it. It looks so feminine and like you could just float away on a cloud. They''re both beautiful on you, but I vote for the Reem.

I know I said in the last thread that I adored the empire waist on you, but scrap that-the AV looks like it was made for you!Vavavoom-it looks so good on you. So my vote now goes to the AV.

Hi Missrocks!

Gosh...I really love both of these dresses on you....but there is something about that Reem that I just adore...I am not 100% crazy about those horizontal stripes on the AV either, like someone else mentioned....To me, the Reem is just perfect for a beach wedding, so ethereal. So, my vote as of now is for the Reem!!!

I vote for mermaid because it is a more flattering look. Though that Reem Acra is gorgeous.

I am all for the AV. Any dress that can make you look more statuesque than an empire waist is not to be ignored.
As another seemstress, you actually might not like the reem tighter because I find they show of hips more than tiny waists on girls with amazing curves like you.
You said they each make you feel different, how do you want to feel on your wedding day?

Oh my heavens. There is only one solution. You have to get BOTH! Just stunning. Both of them. Gorgeous luscious and yummy.

I love the mermaid silhouette on you, but not that particular dress. Honestly, to me it looks like a slip. You do have a fantastic body and can rock that style to no end! But like someone else said, make sure you choose something you LOVE. What do you picture yourself in on your wedding day? They are two very very different styles.

Definitely the Reem! The Alvina is also a beautiful dress and you absolutely can''t go wrong with either, but I think there''s just something about the flowy, feminine dress that''s so romantic. I adore it!

LOVE the Alvina... it''s got the empire waist and mermaid shape... win win. It looks stunning on you. IMHO the Reem Acra is beautiful but does not accent your shape nearly as well.

I''m still loving the reem. The AV looks like your knees got cut off because the horizontal lace interrupts the flow. I guess ''pinches'' is a better word.

But Indy''s right, you just need to get them both since you love them for completely different reasons.

I have loved that Reem Acra dress since the second I laid eyes on it months ago! Sadly, the cost doesn''t fit my budget. That said, both dresses look wonderful on you - but I think the mermaid dress shows more of your figure! So it''s tough, they both work. I think it just depends on what style you see yourself wearing.

I vote for the second one as well - mermaid, beach, hawaii - it all goes together!

The real question is - which one makes you feel like a million bucks?

Pick the one that makes you feel great! I think both of them are beautiful - but I like how the second one shows off your curves...

I think the Alvina gown looks great on you and is very flattering on you. I don''t mind the lace and I know where you''re going with the cheap lace thing. I know exactly what you''re saying. I don''t think it looks cheap at all. I think it is different which makes the dress different and elegant. I don''t think it''s too formal for the beach. We''re getting married on the beach and I would where it in a heart beat. The other one, while it is a very pretty dress, it just isn''t flattering on you. Your body looks awesone, but that dress doesn''t show off your curves. Picture how well the Alvina will photograph...it will look beautiful. You will look beautiful.

Like everyone else has said, you can''t go wrong with either dress! While the RA is gorgeous, I think the AV is more flattering on you. I am also having a beach wedding and thought I would want a flowy, empire wasted dress, too. When I tried them on, while I liked them, they did nothing for my figure. I eventually chose a trumpet style that I think will be perfect for a beach wedding. My dress doesn''t have any beading or lace, but like you mentioned, will be easier to accesorrize. I plan to put a flower in my hair, wear some fancy sandals, and call it a day!

the AV looks stunning but my vote goes for the Reem. It is PERFECT.

I wish I could pull of a dress like that Reem. It is absolutely stunning and SO different from what anyone else is wearing these days.

Both dresses are gorgeous and either one is a great choice!

Thanks everyone!

I guess it kinda ended up half and half. I am going back in a couple of weeks for the Reem trunk show and I'll make sure I ask the SA more about the "fit" and maybe have her clip it a bit tighter to get a better idea of how it will truley look. But that is probably my favorite so far. I just can't get over that fabric and detail. Too die for.

I like the fit of the Alvina, but I think it may be too ordinary or a bit plain for me. I'll have to do some research and see what else I can find that has that fit.

I'm sure I'll be posting more pics soon

the alvina is Gorgeous!!! on you. you could be in a magazine wearing that dress.
the reem may be pretty in person, but the photos don''t do the dress or you justice.

I think the Reem is okay, has a vintage look but is not that flattering. I really love the mermaid gown. To me, the Reem is sort of blah in the photos, and looks a bit night gown like to me. The mermaid style is flattering, elegant and simple, and looks great on your body. If you do not love the horizontal lace, can you find a similar dress without that? I love the overall look on you, but agree the horizontal is not my favorite thing, though it is not a deal breaker to me if in real life it looks great.

Now THAT is the best solution of all!

I really don''t like the empire waist dress for you - doesn''t do a thing for you. You have a lovely figure, and it gets way lost in the Reem.

In fact, consider the fact that I''m *so* NOT a huge fan of mermaid style dresses as a rule, but I think that shape on you is just AMAZINGLY flattering. The one reservation is the horizontal detailing, but the one ringster posted would solve that in short order.

I''d absolutely choose on of the mermaid styles for you.

The first dresses I was ever drawn to were the Reem Acra empire waist gowns. They look so light and lovely. I think what I''m wondering is does that mermaid dress feel light enough to walk around in for an outdoor hawaiian wedding? It looked a bit heavy to me. When I was thinking of getting married in Greece originally I was looking at dresses like that.

I think the Reem is gorgeous and seems appropriate for the type of wedding you''re having. The details on those dresses are gorgeous too. Also I don''t think I see enough ladies wearing empire waist dresses. I love the style. I also love the folks at that bridal salon! So that''s my vote.

Wear what makes you feel good!! You don''t have to wear something form-fitting to be a sex bomb *during* the wedding. That''s for the honeymoon!

This particular mermaid was not to constricting or heavy, in fact it was very comfortable. But A LOT of them were (heavy and constricting). It was also fairly thin material, which I was more comfortable with.

I do love the Reem for the destination and just for being something unique. Overall, when I tried the RA on in the store, neither of us felt it was unflattering, and the pics just don''t do it justice (on the design or the fit). It would be so helpful if I could find a sample in my size, just to see how much more fitted it becomes.

And yes, the people at that salon are wonderful!
