Vendor pictures and owner pictures of PS stones

Very helpful thread!

Interesting, it looks better in your photos.

I would bet anything that either @scouty had cloudy weather, or more probably lives north of San Diego, where Gemfix is located.

I actually live more south than San Diego, had to look it up ;)2 unfortunately I did not take more pics before I sent it off to DK. But I feel like the color looks so vibrant pink-purple in all lights which was exactly what I was going for. Cloudy weather will darken the color of a stone?

Yeah, cloudy weather will darken a stone same as shade does. I cannot think of one example of a gemstone that lightens up under dimmer light. Your sapphire is definitely vivid and vibrant! How long are you gonna wait before setting it? :rolleyes2:

It arrived with DK today to be set! It will be my first ring with him. I was going to wait till next year to set it but I just love the color so much I can't wait... so I will not be buying anymore loose stones until next year instead :lol-2:

@scouty That is such a beautiful stone! That color is on my wish list :P2 I can't wait to see it set!!

Which photo best represents the stone in real life? Your photo or gemfix’s photo?

Mine are more accurate in most lightings. The second Gemfix pic is a screen shot of their video, which I think accurately shows the sparkle. It was described as purplish pink so I think that was accurate.

Here is a blue-green tourmaline (1.98ct) I bought from Precision Gem a long time ago. Gene's description: This stone from Afghanistan is a very intense pretty color bi-color, going from blue to a lighter mint color . The one side of the stone is a blue, the other side a lighter blue/mint color.

It is a lovely stone. My photos:

I actually forgot how this stone looks in indoor lights and I am surprised how green it looks!

I just got my Jeff Davies rose de France and I'm happy! I can't seem to get an indoor photo that looks like vendor pic, but I do see it like that. Mostly I'm blown away by the fire this has in the sun. I've NEVER seen an amethyst light up like this!
Vendor photo, mine, and hopefully you can see the video!

I like your pics better. o_O

@Sunshinelab Thank you! I need to stop looking at Gemfix’s site so I don’t find anything else to buy. :lol-2:

@strawrose hmm I actually liked their pic/video better since I guess I expected more of solid purple color. It seems very moody in real life.

This is my mint tourmaline cut by Jeff White. Top photo is his, bottom left was taken in an office with natural light, and bottom right was taken outdoors in sunlight.

@scouty @JPie

I just find the real life photos more interesting! The sapphire looks really purple in your picture. The Jeff White photo doesn’t show the unique pleochroism that I enjoy looking at from tourmaline.

This gem and the finished ring are just gorgeous!!!

This is why I’ve had such trouble with purple. I too want the perfect bright purple without all the shiftiness. I don’t mind a little pink but I’m not a fan of the blue-purple is gets sometimes.

We're the opposite, elle. I like blue-purple shiftiness but I am not a fan of purple that's pinkish. I like pink and purple separately unless it's really pastel looking lavenders.

Well I really love your new profile pic. :kiss2: Do you have a thread on it?

Thanks! I don't have a thread dedicated to it, and my own pictures of it are actually on my digital camera, but I can't find a USB cable, so I can't post here yet. But, if you want to see the vendor pictures, you can head over to https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-with-finding-a-stock-setting.248147/ where I have a link to the vendor Instagram. I bought the lavender spinel and the spinel she described as "sweet pink." They are very true to her pictures. The color looks more saturated on my digital camera, probably because I took pictures at a different location/time.
