Vendor pictures and owner pictures of PS stones

This is my mint tourmaline cut by Jeff White. Top photo is his, bottom left was taken in an office with natural light, and bottom right was taken outdoors in sunlight.

Above are Haydenfred Gems (IG seller) picture of pink and lavender spinels and a mint tourmaline. Below are my own pictures using a Canon Powershot.

Unfortunately the vendor pictures are much closer to what my eyes see, than what my camera can capture. I can rock the green and pink stones just fine as solitaires if I wanted to (halo is more likely), but I'll definitely need to set the lavender spinel with a halo because the color just disappears into my skin.

Voce, very nice stones! The lavender has a special place in my heart though. I’m so drawn to cool bluish, lavender and violet family gems. I can’t wait to see what you do with them!

Thanks! I've been wanting a lavender spinel for some time now. I happened to be online when the vendor uploaded the pictures to Etsy, and it immediately caught my interest. After seeing the videos on IG, I knew I had to get it or I'd probably regret it. The other stones are nice, too, but were ones she had showed off with the lavender spinel in one video or another. I didn't bargain on the price of the lavender one, but was able to negotiate lower prices on the pink spinel and the mint tourmaline since I was buying the lavender spinel. I'm really pleased with the brilliance of these. Many purple spinels don't flash nicely.

Beautiful! I love how they pop against your skin tone! You also have an elegant looking hand.

I can't believe how intense the color is on these Zircons!! Luv them...
Elegant hands....lol...thank you. Believe me they are soooooooo far from elegant irl. I need some tips or a manicure or something.:oops2:

So I bought the 2.03ct 7.1mm spessarite from Precision Gem:

And this gave me an idea about how to set it:

So beautiful.

Very nice spessertite! I love it on the light purple flower! I would halo it with Rise de France melee!

Btw, we have siblings, but yours has a higher crown!! Make sure you get long prongs for that puppy! I need some inspiration ideas for mine.

@Rfisher Awesome work!!!! Now I know who to bug for help if I ever go custom

At the risk of presuming too much:

Ohhhhhhh pretttttttyyyyyyy!! I would do a tiny diamond, pale tsavorite, or white zircon melee between each dip in the purple stones, for extra bling!! But that’s me, it still a beautiful idea without the tiny stones.

Wow!!! I am really impressed, thanks! Yes, the flower design was the first one I tried. I also found this 4mmx3mm purple sapphire melee at https://www.etsy.com/listing/667456...gascar-sapphire-oval?ref=shop_home_active_28; I also plotted them out with the exact size.

I was not sure how I would like the flower design. It is cute/lovely, but I was not sure. Then I remembered I have a pair of grape garnets, so I have almost decided I am going to set it like this. What do you girls think?

My spinel from Pristine Gemstones is shifty in color. I received it after work yesterday and the sun was setting, so it looked really orange in warm light. It also didn't look that great under my camera's flash.

Today, I forgot to photograph it during the day when light was best. However, in indirect natural light at 6:15pm in California, it was better than in direct sunset lighting.

Hoping it's ideal noon light that'll bring out the best in the stone, but I just wish it wouldn't look so orange in incandescent.

I'm likewise impressed with @Rfisher's mad skills, but I personally like the look of more saturated pink with spess color. I'm planning to have a setting done with 4mm hot pink tourmaline in Yvonne Raley's octagon design for a 6mm spess center, but I will put it off because I really must cut it out with the bling spending.

@Atwater, I think pairing your purple garnets with the spess will look gorgeous for a 3-stone design, but what were you thinking about the purple oval melee? I think you should make a new thread where we can discuss this without detailing the vendor pic thread. :P

I agree with Voce to start a new thread. Your grape garnets are pretty, but I think smaller melee sizes would be more appropriate. They just aren’t as sparkly and bright as the spessertite, but melee rhodolites tend to be brighter and sparklier.

7.78ct blue zircon from Master Cut Gems. Here is the vendor's picture:

Gorgeous! I've admired that one but thought it was too big for me to wear. Looking forward to seeing how you'll set it! Yay! :geek2:

So beautiful. The colour looks good in all kinds of lighting. May I see the back of the stone? I am looking for a perfect oval now. I am curious how the back of the stone looks like.

Although I can imagine it will make an amazing cocktail ring :lickout:, it will be made into a pendant.

Here is its back. I am curious why you care about the back .

 not sure why she asked, but I'll say that color zoning is more readily visible from the back.
Setting your additional photos, this stone has a very thick girdle, so it's good that you're setting it in a pendant. I think your options aren't many if you had wanted it in a ring. Awkward huge prongs or bezel. Might affect the aesthetics of the ring.

I think in some ovals the culet might not be centred so person was probably checking if it was centred. That's what I would do. I have seen stones with the culet to one side even!

Thank you. I am learning how the pavilion facets will affect the face up looks like. I want to get custom cut stones since I am now getting very picky with the cut. I went to Tucson last February. There were lots of stones with wonderful colour. But I didn't buy because of the cut and of course the price.

This is my itty bitty Mozambique copper bearing tourmaline from Litnon (.21 ct). I didn’t expect much, because it was cheap, but it is nice in its own way.

My first post after silently following the board for years now. We were looking for a color change sapphire (blue-purple) for my engagement ring. I just got this from Finewater Gems. Gary cut this so beautifully!
