I’m posting this with permission from the PS moderator in hopes I can save someone from this stress and unnecessary headache in the future.
I am a longtime PS member and have actively bought and sold multiple items via LT over the years. I think it’s safe to say I’ve been lulled into a false sense of security thinking what you see is what you get.
I saw the below listing on the PS Preloved section and figured it was perfect timing as I wanted to treat myself to a Cartier Love bracelet and I’d been pining for one for ages. The price advertised was good (but not too good to be true) and after seeing the member selling had also been a member on PS for 2 years I pulled the trigger. The ad also stated you’d get all the packing, the receipt (I never received one) and the certificate - sounded legit.
The seller immediately responded to my emails and even allowed me to pay her in 2 instalments over 2 months. She was lovely in her response, sent me a video of the bracelet and gave me her phone number as part of the transaction. Her only request was that I pay Friends and Family. It was a decent amount of money to transact and I know how frustrating it is with PP fees so I went along with it.
I paid off the bracelet in March and she shipped it immediately. I had it shipped to my address in the US (I travel between the US and UK) and was only able to get back home last week to open the package. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was fake. I’ve included photos and details below so others can see what I’m talking about. I have emailed the seller and have had no response. Her phone number rings straight into voicemail.
By paying Friends and Family I have no recourse to recalling the funds/issuing a chargeback (which I wholly understand is the risk I took).
I have been really stupid here and this is why I’m posting - do NOT pay F&F for goods unless you absolutely trust who you’re selling/buying from. I’d also encourage everyone to do some extra research if they’re buying common counterfeit goods - had I done so - I wouldn’t be out of pocket.
The seller goes by the username Piperhallie on PS, but emailed me as Noella Hallie. She has also used Nina King and Nina Bacher on PayPal.
Piperhallie sold another Gold rainbow Cartier Love bracelet at the same time so if you’re reading this and you bought the bracelet pls check yours out immediately. I genuinely hope yours is real.
As promised pls see photos below to illustrate the counterfeit.
Photo 1 - dark red bag on the left is what the bracelet came in. As soon as I opened the package my heart sunk and I knew I was in trouble as the colour was so off the Cartier red. My bag (to the right) is an original Cartier bag but I was hoping they’d changed the colour slightly as my bag was 6 years old.
Photo 2 - The bracelet came with the certification stating it had been purchased in the Narita airport. A quick google search will show this is a common fake location. Cross reference that with photo 3 (the date it was purchased) and it really feels concerning. It is really difficult to travel to Asia since COVID and there is little likelihood people were actively travelling to Japan in 2021. (I travelled internationally myself in August 2021 and the airports were empty).
Photo 4 - The actual certificate shows uneven printing (like a stamp). This is also a common counterfeit tactic.
Photo 5 - mismatched serial numbers between the certificate and engraved on the bracelet.
The bracelet itself shows discolouration in the metal (gold metal showing through) and the screw clasp doesn't lock.
Lastly (and most importantly) I have also spoken to Cartier and they have confirmed they have no record of that bracelet with that serial number.
I know I won’t see my funds back, but I’m hoping karma/the universe etc will even the score at some point.
Thanks all for reading.
