WOW! Kenny, that is amazing! I love the one with the fisherman. Is this your profession? Are your paintings for sale?

They are absolutely stunning, Kenny. The depth and realism is absolutely astonishing to me, especially with the crystal doorknob. How long have you been an artist? Did you have formal training? I also noticed that you play classical piano. Fantastic! I wish we had sound on here...between us flute players, drummers, pianists, sax players, guitarists and such, we could have a PS orchestra!

Do you have any more paintings that you have done that you may want to share? I could look at them all day long.

Love them Kenny...I especially like the crystal doorknob! How amazing to be able to create works of art that are inspired from your own home! I love unique art pieces.

WOW!! Your paintings are just amazing. I no artistic talent what so ever and am truly amazed when people can create such beauty. Please tell us more about your art. Is it a hobby or something more?

How amazing!! what a talent you have!

I love the doorknob one! where do you get your "inspiration" from?

kenny,
your paintings are awesome! wow.

oh wow! Such work!

I hope you have a website Kenny......where we can buy your stuff!

If you just paint for a hobby then good on ya! Simply excellent. As someone said...the doorknob looks real but your fisherman looks so clear and refreshing.....so lovely.

Very cool! I''m going against the grain, my favorite is the school of fish! Do you have more pieces to share with us?

Here's a mini-bio:
I am 48 years old and an aerospace engineer.
About 10 years ago my midlife crisis hit.
I got out of a 13-year relationship and started to realize my life is about half over.
I decided I'd spend the second half of my life following my heart.
I bought a piano and started learning the proper way, by reading music.
I had played guitar by ear since I was about 8 or so.
I"m on my third piano teacher and second piano and loving it, classical, Bach Chopin Ravel and the other dead white guys.

I bought a house and was getting too old for posters from Ikea but could not afford any of the original art I saw.
Also I always wanted to do art so I took a beginning drawing class at the local city college.

I had a superb teacher and blossomed under his care.
Then I took him for Beginning watercolor.
Then 2nd semester watercolor.
All four paintings I posted were done in those two classes.
They are just student work.
So I am a beginner, but look forward to when I really find my voice.
I've had a strange life and have a quirky perspective, I expect good things for my art some day.

I really didn't intend to have a photo-realistic style.

I wasn't thinking of any style at all.
I just tried very hard to paint what I see.
It didn't occur to me to try anything else.
I may find a couple more to post.

I have no website, and nothing for sale. Yet.
I don't have time to paint much the last 2 years but keep wanting to pick it up again.
Life it too short.

Thanks again.

You ask what is my inspiration.
Look around.
Slow down and really SEE what is right in front of you.

To me painting is easy; but seeing is hard.

Kenny, I took Watercolor I & II in college and let me say that you have real talent--I don''t remember too many pictures in class looking like yours. You really have a natural ability to translate life into art.

If people want me to email them larger pics PM me your edress.

I'm a computer dummy and am not good at resizing but I do have the larger original files.
PS only allows I think 100 Kb.
I think the original files show up larger on screen.

Kenny, you may not have intended to paint photo realistically but you really nailed it. If this is just the beginning then you are really going to blow everyone away later on. I am still in awe. What an eye for detail you have. Truly amazing.

ETA: Of course you've already blown everyone away now.

four beautiful paintings in just two classes!? you may of had a superb instuctor, but there is no doubt you have amazing talent. i''m impressed.

Kenny,
I am so happy that you are following your true passion. You have more talent than I can ever imagine. Please share more of your amazing gift.

I agree with Jen, and I''m not even artistically inclined, those paintings are way better than ''just student'' work! I think you really had a hidden talent!

I would love to be able to do something similar but I can barely draw a stick figure. I see alot of beauty around me daily especially in nature, and like to capture things in photos...hopefully my next camera can allow me to really get creative.

Okay I posted a lighthouse I''m working on now, also in transparent watercolor.
It is way not finished so don''t look too closely.
Also the photo is crooked, the lighthouse is not. ;)
I also posted a couple details of it.

Tomorrow I may be able to post a couple more.

I love transparent watercolor.
It has a radiance, almost a luminosity I rarely see in oil or acrylic.

the light goes through the pigment, hits the white paper and then reflects back through the pigment, like stained glass.
There is no white paint so you have to plan ahead and save the white paper where you want white.
And you can''t really lift the paint or paint over it so when you screw up, you have to tear it up and start over.

amazing amazing amazing!! i used to paint back in college, but this surpasses anything I have ever seen..wonderful work!!!

This jumped out at me. Profound words.
As a musician I relate strongly to elements of your journey.
I look forward to seeing more of the world through your eyes.

Kenny,

just student work?!?!? please take those words back but leave all the rest of the words you wrote. Absolutely beautiful. The doorknob especially caught my eye, but everything is gorgeous. All the images seem to have a sense of peace within them. Boy, I wish I had such a hidden talent. When your work goes on sale, it is clear many of us will be knocking at your door.

You are amazing Kenny! I agree with Jennifer... i NEVER saw student work that looks like yours and i was an Art major!

I agree that watercolor is a hard medium to master, but you are very well on your way, if not there already! Simply beautiful!

I am absolutly in love with your crystal doorknob... I have an obsession with architectural elements, especially the little ones people dont notice like doorknobs! The arch of a window, the outline of a roof... your fence post with the tiny spider strands... even the close-ups of your light house... oh i am in heaven!

Lovely watercolors Kenny!
I''m most partial to the fisherman - it''s so powerful, you can feel it - the stillness, the quiet.... very nicely done!

...and what a great synopsis of your life - it takes much courage to change the status quo & look for better, for happiness... I''m thinkin someone should be posting his story the "who''s who" page....!

great work! I love the school of fish and the doorknob too. You've got a great eye for composition and I love your color choices!! Do you know the work of Janet Fish? It may be interesting for you to take a quick look..she's also very interested in light/reflection.

It would be fun to start an art thread for pricesopers and their kids etc.

Thanks for posting this leonid.
