What is the one piece you'd never sell?

ok guess I didn'tvideo1_114.jpg read the whole thread before I posted my wedding band..oops ok I do have another one, this was a necklace that was made for me for my 30th birthday by my mother in law (hubby's step mom) she was very ill with cancer when she had this made for me in 1990, she passed in 1991, it a very sentimental piece for me that I will never part with. its not a good picture of it, but the center piece is moves in circles, it has some sort of ball bearing in it to make it move independent from the larger circle and the diamond is a very small not nicely cut diamond but she had it taken from a piece of jewelry that she owned and never wore.

I love this, @diamondringlover!

Honestly, maybe I’m unreasonably sentimental, but I would not sell any of my jewelry unless I have no choice, and at that point, I would sell whatever would fetch me the best price.

Repurpose though… that I would do endlessly. Nothing is sentimental enough for me to not repurpose!

This is a really interesting thread and I also thought what Missy thought which is “never say never“. It made me think hard about my pieces. My snake pendant, while having no sentimental association, is probably closest to “never“ that I’m going to get it because I love it so much. And my current e-ring is also up there but again not for sentimental reasons (it wasn’t my first e-ring) but mainly because it’s so beautiful and I don’t have DSS or anything like that so I don’t expect to go bigger.

This is turning into a fascinating thread - thanks to all who are contributing!

I have to say, if I needed to sell the whole lot for, say, emergency medical treatments - I'd do it. But - oooooooh! - it would cause me pain!

But that aside....Beloved, Joy, and my 2 pendants go with me to the grave! Well, not the grave, as such - because everything gets sold when I kick on. I'll be buried in my wedding ring - but that's all. And - is it daft that I want to be buried in earrings as well....in case the holes close over? (??!!??)

But that's a whole other thread..."What Jewelry Do You Want To Be Buried In?"

And that's not this.

And @MamaBee - I LOVE Bee. I'd stare at her all day, too. Every angle, a different view.... <siiiigh>. <3

But that's a whole other thread..."What Jewelry Do You Want To Be Buried In?"

And that's not this.

It is interesting, isn't it. The set of pieces that I'd call "my favourites" isn't the set of pieces I'd never sell, and neither is the set of pieces that I'd want to be buried - or in my case burnt - with. There's overlap, certainly, but the fact that they aren't all the same is... Interesting. And I'm confident we are not alone in these distinctions.

Well, I too would never say never as you never know what life can throw at you. However, I can say with certainty that I would not sell them just for the sake of selling. Upgrades are one thing; selling outright another. Upgrades to me mean that you are replacing one item for another and not giving up the piece entirely.
Having said that, I will never part with my original gold 4 mm wedding band or the original engagement ring setting. Many upgrades to them but never let go of the originals although the first diamond was traded in my multiple trade ins through the years! My diamond jewelry has been rather cultivated through the years to feature the pieces that I now love and wear daily. The only things that I have multiples of are bracelets due to size and metal color. My engagement ring, earrings and pendant are all ACA diamonds and while it took a bit to get here, I truly cherish their beauty. My wedding band is from Tiffany’s and it was the result of a long search. The five stone from Memoire was an anniversary gift. They are all special to me and will probably all remain with me . . . but I am wise enough to never discount an upgrade - if something came along that would rock my world! Ha - no pun intended!!DC87B910-4B92-45AB-A3FD-FD248E895298.jpeg

Hard to say! But I think these earrings, I probably won't.

Paraiba cabs with diamond halo, made by DK. Worn for a very special occasion. They are big, about 18 mm or so. 3.89 carats of diamond weight, G/VS. The cabs are almost 2.6ish each I think.

I have another pair of earrings that I need a photo of, but they are Victorian old mine clusters, centers are 1.5 each and about another 1.5 in the halo cluster each I think. Those would be hard to replicate.

I can honestly say that if I had to, there isn’t anything that I just couldn’t part with. Much as I love Bella, if we needed the money, I’d sell.

Everything else, it’s all ‘stuff’, and as such, I don’t have any sentimental attachment to any of it.

I too think that if the need is there, I would sell anything except the hubby and the kids (and I might be able to be talked into it on certaindays with these teenagers) :lol:20220724_111210.jpg That said, this one would probably be the last one to go. Mostly because I would have a very hard time replacing her.20210306_104805.jpg

I'm drooling over all these gorgeous pieces but seriously................................just ONE?!! I would have a very hard time selling most of my collection but I guess if I have to stick to one and our wedding sets are off the table, then it would be my dapper friend. I don't think there is another one like him.

Agreed! Such a cool piece.

I am like many of you. I can't just pick one! 95% of my jewelry is inherited and very special to me. I wear all of it. I picked a small tray of some of my absolute favorites that I will never sell, including my two rings done by Steven in the mix. I have many more that will stay with me forever but for this thread I photographed these six plus my wedding ring. oops, that does not count for this post. I'd love to see this thread overflowing with many more special pieces from all of you! I love looking at all the beautiful bling!

I am so glad these make you happy, @elizat! The stones would have stayed in my jewelry box forever and I would never have come up with such a beautiful setting as you did!

I call her Lucille. I got her several years ago. She’s my favorite travel ring because she’s so comfortable and she’s just so perfect in every way. D1D4CA6D-8690-4EA7-8645-354A637AE68E.jpeg

If he hadn’t been yours I’d have demanded you re-take stock of your crittery

What is the green stone?!

A Georgian 32 carat Emerald with a carved starburst like indention on top. It has 4 carats of diamonds but they are not todays cut ,I think maybe rose cut? They look like they are upside down. It is Gold in back and silver on top.

Just sooooooo incredible. What an exquisite museum worthy collection you have!

Thank you! I wore the Emerald to one of my daughter's weddings. I was proud to have such a special piece to wear from her Great Grand Mother's collection.

Your grandmother must have been a fascinating woman. I would love a thread about her and the info you know about your amazing pieces! Some crown jewels aren't as spectacular!

Thank you. She passed before I was born so unfortunately, I never met her. Can you please share how you came across such an amazingly gorgeous Sapphire? It appears to show many colors but is it a minty bluish green with flashes of other colors? I am in awe of its beauty! Also, do you know origin?

This is hard. I have many pieces I love and wear frequently. But never sell? There's only a couple ( non-wedding type).

One is a blue zircon and diamond pendant I had made. I wear blue zircon because it is the birthstone of my * much adored * late father.
The zircon came from an antique pin. The diamond is my paternal great grandmothers from 1922. She was in her 20s when she died. My grandmother (her daughter) wore that engagement ring on her right hand for most of my life. I inherited it and it is now a daily wear necklace for me:

The other is another blue zircon piece. My very first "real" gem purchase and first custom piece I ever had made. The antique zircon needed repair and I had it recut by Jerry Newman. David Klass made the setting.

Oh Catmom-you have a phenomenal collection but this guy is my very favorite! :kiss2:

I think most people would expect me to say Clover but nope. Don’t get me wrong, I’m obsessed with her! However, should the opportunity ever arise to buy a larger AVC diamond, I’d absolutely remake Clover for it.

This the the one ring I don’t think I’d ever sell. It’s just so perfectly me!
Bright. Colorful. Playful. And my favorite colors!

Is there a thread on this piece? If not, can I request one with many many many photos and handshots?! :D
