Arjunajane--I would suggest you have probably always been more "indie" than you think. (Recognizing, as Musey points out that many of these indie artists are actually mainstream). The Roots, Nerd, Lupe Fiasco, MIA, etc are all embraced by the indie rock kids I know (including this girl).

Right now all the modern "new wave" bands like Bloc Party, Black Kids, The Killers, etc. have inspired me to go on an 80s kick, so I am spending a lot of time listening to The Cure (particularly their MTV Unplugged performance) and Depeche Mode. But, I am also listening to a whole lot of Enon and Portishead. And, like Tuckins says, there can never be enough Zeppelin. Ever.

In general, my musical tastes could be classified across my life (always into stuff that is or was at the time innovative)--for the most part, I have never really been a verse, chorus, verse gal. There are some things I am always into like buried vocals, awkward mixing and effects (why I love RATM), stuff that isn''t over produced, unexpected change-ups, etc. But, I have been into new wave, indie pop, hip hop, rock, . . .

Hi katamari (and musey) - yeah, I just used "indi" as I didn''t really have another word for it. I realize my likes list sounds like a radio playlist of the moment, lol, what can I say? I''ve started listening to the radio again

Why I''m finding it interesting is I''ve really been into "live" stuff lately (as in live instruments) as compared to produced music. The last time I listened to bands was when I was about 14 or so and really into Nirvana (still love them), The Pixies, etc.

Then from about 15 onwards I was strictly a drum n bass head, believe it ir not. yep, I was a total raver, rofl..

I''ve always loved Portishead, Massive Attack and stuff like DJ Cam (france), The X Men.
Then I was a hip hop head, and probably will always be one.

I know what you mean about the 80s - I think you never really shake being an 80s baby, and it does make for some of the best party music!

Just at work, so not much time to reply to everyone individually, but thanks for contributing and keep em coming.

Zeppelin. It pretty much always is Zeppelin, and probably always will be.
I do listen to a lot of other things, but Zeppelin is ALWAYS a good choice!

I''ve had Chicago XVII in my CD player for about the last 2 weeks. Prima Donna - probably one of the best overlooked songs ever, IMO.

That, and You''re The Inspiration was our recessional song in our wedding, so I get a bit teary every time I hear it.
love Chicago songs of the 70''s.

i still have a lot of 45 rpm records and a Technics turntable in my closet.

Hmmm...a couple more albums to add are Santogold (especially if you''re a hiphop and M.I.A. fan) and Hot Chip (somewhat electronic, but a really fun album!).

Lauren-we had You''re the Inspiration during our wedding too!

Flogging Molly. Motley Crue. Iron Maiden. Postmark Twain, AC/DC, and Queen. This is just what's in my car 6 disc changer right now. I am a Zep Head, Floyd, Clapton, The Who, Metallica, Buckcherry, STP....etc.etc. etc. Oh and OLD G n'R. The new G n' R isn't (in my book) G n' R. It's Axl Rose trying to be himself in 1987 again. So sad.

Cool DF. My dad is obsessed with buying this stuff - last time I went over he had more amps, tuners and turntables than I could count.

sammJ, I really like Santogold too. Don''t think I''ve heard of hot chip though, cheers for the link.
