My extended relatives always insist on gift exchange for our Christmas evening gathering. We have tried, to no avail, to end this tradition. For one thing, most of these are elderly aunts on a fixed income. I hate that they waste their money like this. Because also they give the most bizarre and tacky gifts! LOL! I will share a couple of the things we got this year. This was to me from an aunt:

Because of course everyone needs a metal spring dog. (Insert laugh emojis - why don’t they work on my phone?!)

And she gave this to my husband:

If you have something silly to share - please do so!

OMG I love the metal dog! I would buy that! :)

I have no photos of many, many gifts my much older sister has sent me over the years that are either ugly or just so "not me". But I'm happy to say that this year I was able to get her to agree to the "let's not exchange gifts anymore, neither us us needs anything" stage. What a relief!

wow those are both kewl gifts I would have liked to get either one.
I got socks that are 3 sizes to small and the kind I can not wear from a family member. Her heart was in the right place so but it was mega funny.

Just realizing how fortunate I've been to get mostly kitchen gifts that I'd actually use. But this one made me go hm.

I steam a lot of things using a 3-tier steamer pot. So a relative got me this plastic box(?) to steam things in the microwave. Very thoughtful. But the idea of putting something in plastic for 2-3 minutes in the microwave gives me the heebies jeebies. #ungrateful

I’ve heard of those; you’re supposed to have a nice meal haha just by steaming something for a couple of minutes. I don’t buy it!

I used to get soap every year from an aunt. Nice thought, but my skin is really sensitive and this soap always gave me a rash. I always threw it out. It's homemade so I couldn't donate it.

I really dislike adult gift giving.

My MIL (now deceased) gifted me some doozies for Christmas. There was one year I got a hideous leopard print plastic pocketbook, there was a sweater that was so ugly that I didn’t even bring it in the house, that went right into the donate bag.

The best though was the year that I gained weight because I was depressed, that year she gifted me size 2X pajamas. She could have gifted me any number of things that don’t have a size, but she chose to gift me clothes, oh and I was maybe an XL at the most :roll2:

I also like the metal dog sculpture, not so much the squirrel bird feeder lol.

Some years ago my MIL gave my DH and me a single white bath towel for Christmas ... we were confused and kept searching the tissue paper in the large gift box thinking there must be another bath towel or a face cloth or something ... but no, just the one towel ... bless her heart, she passed away a few years ago and this is a story we enjoy remembering and laughing about ... she wasn't great at gift-giving but she had many good qualities (like the best greeting card sender ever, remembering and marking every single important event; and always enjoying get-togethers and family visits).

That is awful! Never clothes - no no no!

@Mreader Yes! My husband got these for me for Mother’s Day! They’re 24k gold dipped roses. They were so expensive. I think one rose was $80. It comes in it’s plastic stem holder. I kept them in my kitchen. When we were putting out the Christmas decorations I had to move them to my bedroom. I’ve been getting nightmares when I roll over and see them..:lol-2:

For Xmas, Easter and birthday my MIL always gifts me chocolates or cakes...I gently told her many times that I don't like sweet food, but she thinks that I tell her so just because I don't want her to spend money on me...yesterday I received a one kilogram pack of chocolates.

My husband is a nightmare when buying gifts: no matter if I tell him exactly what and where to buy and even send him pictures, he's always able to get the wrong thing... Italian shops do not refund money, you can only exchange during the first 15 days, so a wrong gift is basically a waste of money .. not nice to say, but I prohibited him to buy gifts for me and it all went well for years...until yesterday when he got me another wrong gift!

I remember those flowers and the story behind them @MamaBee!

I received a towel holder with a painted towel on it. Later that evening my husband said “It’s not just me…this is really ugly…RIGHT???”

I can’t say clothes is a terrible gift. A couple of my friends have given sweaters and dresses that I’ve loved!

Hi,
This has been a year of cleaning out my house of anything I don't need for living now. I sent many things to my niece, and let others know that I am giving away other items.

I have a nurse who has brought my items to our food pantry which deals in all sorts of giveaways. She knows how much I want to pare down my worldly goods. She even looks to see if she wants anything that I no longer want. and takes what she wants from a large coffee table where I display them.

I assume she wishes to pay me back and brings stuff(new) back to me. I received a new fuzzy sweater and spoke plainly about not wanting any stuff. So for Christmas she buys me a fuzzy blanket to lay over my legs if I am cold. I now have 2 items to go to the food pantry again, and I can't use her to bring them. At Christmas(many) she used to bring butter cookies, which i like. This year, my wonderful nurse brings stuff. Its bizaRre when You have told people, "NO STUFF!

One of the ugliest gifts was the ring I was proposed with, I still refuse to call it my engagement ring just because it was so crappy.
