.... if your budget was $10000 (this has to include everything - food, drinks etc)

Does this include airfare? If so, from where are you departing? How long would you like your honeymoon to be? Are you asking for suggestions, or is this a daydreaming thread like "What ring would you buy for $20,000?"

Belize or Hawaii

Exactly where I'm going - Sri Lanka.

A budget like that over there would give me at least $4k to spend on sapphires in Ratnapura - and go 5* all the way!

Well, I am trying to get ideas for ours, but it can be a daydreaming thread too

I would be departing from the UK and it does include airfare.

I am willing to consider anywhere!

A cruise. To Greece. Or just go to Greece. I want to go to Greece. Can you tell?

Lol!

I would love to go to Greece, but G is saying no! Its only a few hours flight from here too! I am all for going somewhere in Europe but he wants to go further afield!!

That's where I'm going on my honeymoon, Greece!

We're doing Athens, Mykonos and SANTORINI! That's where I wanted to get married originally. Santorini is so gorgeous. We'll pass through Paris for a few days on the way back to see friends and my FI has never been there. I love going to Paris, then through London to stay with a friend of his for a few days before we head back to the US. I think that will cost us quite a bit so that probably fits the 10k right there.

We registered for a honeymoon for our wedding, that's it. No other registries. Also, we're not taking our honeymoon until end of May/Beg of June in '09 (Our wedding is Oct '08). Had we gotten married first weekend in September like I originally wanted then we could have gone to Greece and had the weather still be nice. October will be too cold.

Here. St. Regis Bora Bora. Sigh.

What do you guys like to do? What kind of atmosphere are you looking for? Any specifics? a lot of us could be more help if we knew that.
If I had that money I would go to:
1.Barcelona, its heaven on earth and my dream to go back...sigh
2.China, I loved it there and there was so much more to see and do that I know I would love
3.New Zealand, I have heard nothing but good things about it and have never seen a bad picture
4.San Miguel De Allende/Guanajato, Mexico-They are both artist areas without so many tourists. I always felt relaxed there and it was so beautiful

Sigh.

Anywhere in Europe. D would want to go to Ireland, England, Scotland, and I''d want to hit up France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Switzerland, etc...

Then again we could go to Hawaii and stay for about 3 months because one of his best friends lives there and has offered us a free room....

Or we could go to Japan. Which would be amazing...

Good thing I don''t have to think about this yet, even though we''ve already decided that we''re going to NYC for ours because he''s never been there and it''s my favorite place...

South Africa, safari in east Africa, Australia, Bora Bora, or Italy (which is where we are going...on a much lower budget!)

i'm with sadie - i'd go to belize!!

violet02 - you'll LOVE greece. I spent a couple of weeks there back in high school visiting family. we stayed in athens, mykonos, santorini, skiathos (a northern, super lush island) and koroni (a small coastal town in Peloponnesus). santorini and mykonos are certainly beautiful - i hope you get out to the countryside too! it's really charming and gorgeous as well.

Backpacking though Europe and then spend some time in a nice hotel in Italy

We are pretty easy to please, we are looking to relax, enjoy some lovely food and generally chill out and enjoy each others company. The problem is, I would get a bit bored just sitting round for a week, so somewhere with a bit of history to look at would be lovely.

I just looked at Elquins honeymoon pictures - I want to go there!

Holy moly!! Me too!!!!!!!!!!!

As of now the plan is Thailand for 2 weeks (3 different cities). It has the city (Bangkok), the mountains (Chiang Mai/Rai), and the beach (Koh Samui). And with the exchange rate as it is right now, it still is a reasonably priced honeymoon.

But ...but.... if you go to Thailand, you HAVE to go to Bora Bora!!

That''s just a rule!

I love rules like that!!! My first choice would be Bora Bora and the second would be Hawaii. I''ve wanted to go to Hawaii since I was a teenager, and actually starting saving then, but things don''t always work out the way you''d like and spent the cash on books for university. I know, great investment, but I still would love to go!! DH doesn''t want to fly that far so I''ll have to be satisfied with other people''s photos and stories! I shouldn''t complain, we done quite a bit of travelling over the years......but there''s so much left to see!

Excellent question! I would go exactly where we ARE going, Italy...only we''d get the best of everything, without worrying about $$. And we''d probably hit more places.

HAHAHAHA..... Courtneylub, you crack me up.

If I had $10,000 to spend on airfare, hotel, rental car, food, etc., I''d probably go to either Portugal (since we''re no longer going there for our honeymoon) or Hawaii. The only downside about going to Hawaii from where I live in the Northeast is that it''s such a loooonnnnnngggg flight. Even if we were to break up the trip and spending a few days in CA (which would be fun to do), it''s still a long way to go to get to paradise. But if that''s the price I''d have to pay, so be it.

Normally I''d pick Bora Bora.......but I feel like my dollars wouldn''t be stretched out enough. So instead I''d choose Ireland and try to stay as long as possible.

That''s interesting since Ireland is so expensive. I loved it there, but even my European friends said the prices in Dublin were high by their standards.
Of course, I understand what you are saying about Bora Bora. When I was in CHina or my last trip to San Miguel, my dollar went a lot further than it would now.

We''re going to Costa Rica and are spending about the same amount of money as you guys. We''re spending three weeks in Costa Rica and a week in NY.

Greece is awesome!!!! OK, OK, you caught me.. I''m Greek, from Piraeus....biased, biased
2.gif

Anyway, If I had $10K USD, I''d probably try to swing the South Pacific (Fiji?) but you guys want some history, and not just straight "lounging" hmmmmm..... Capri? I''d love the Amalfi coast in Italy...or maybe Ischia and Procida....beachy/loungey, but with fabulous history

So, I definitely always dreamed of Santorini for a honeymoon. But oh boy, does Bora Bora have me hooked now! Wow.

Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia! Well, maybe not Indonesia right now but when its more stable. There are tons of interesting places to visit and the food is amazing.
