Is there any truth to that? They can''t set a diamond with 32-33.5 crown angle?

Too bad for that local jeweler--she might have had a customer, but she just lost your business.
No, it is not true. But if you want to buy an ideal cut stone, you need to be looking for a 34-35 crown angle!

I am going to strongly recommend the stones that Ellen linked for you! Those are all ideal cut and gorgeous! The two that are in the 1.9 range are a fabulous buy....top cut quality and getting close to 2 cts. without the price jump!
Thritto! And ditto Ellen''s selections if you like the look of those!!

helpme, as the gals have already pointed out, no, there's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't be able to set a stone with a lower or higher crown angle. I'd love to know why she said that. One thing I can think is, sometimes with fairly low crown angles, the girdle can become dangerously thin, which in turn could be chipped while setting. But to just say that right off the bat, and not judge each stone on an individual basis is rather odd.

If you are wanting to get your stone set there, I wouldn't totally dismiss her. Do you know much about them? Have they been in business long? Know anybody else who has dealt with them? Also, might check the BBB to see if they've been reported.

Another thought, are you wanting a setting you can't find anywhere else? Many find it much easier to buy a setting from where they get the stone. Because something else to consider is that if a local jeweler sets it, they most likely won't take responsibility if something did happen to it while setting, while the place you buy the stone from will.

p.s. If you are at all interested in one of the stones just under the 2 ct. mark, please reserve it (it doesn't cost anything) while you think. That is a very rare size, and I can absolutely assure you they won't last long.

Ladies, thank you for all your great advice. I''m glad to hear that it''s not completely inconceivable to ask a jeweler to set a diamond w/ crown angle under 34 or above 35.

About the other diamond suggestions, I really appreciate it. I think we are suffering from maybe some sort of "mind clean" issue where we are pretty set on getting something with a GIA cert and is over 2 carat. Price isn''t as much of an issue but overpaying is (if that makes sense). With that, I hope you don''t think weird of us and would still help us out

I will just make the links clickable to make it easier firstly.

The last diamond you are considering could be a good diamond, out of the ones you listed above, my vote goes for #1, #3 and #4 and I would probably choose one of those in preference to the last one unless you would rather have a little extra carat weight.

Hi Lorelei,

Would you go for #1, #3 and #4 in that order or something else? Thanks again!

If you are going for #1, maybe consider this AGS0 stone.

The poster wants to stick with GIA graded diamonds, not AGS- the various merits of each lab have been explained to her and she prefers GIA.

Yes in that order Tiffany.

helpme, I know you said you wanted to stick with GIA, though I''m not sure why. They are the only lab that grades on light performance, which is a good thing. It ensures a pretty stone, that performs well. If you were aware of that and just want GIA, I understand. But I wanted to give you a heads up in case you weren''t familar with them, and didn''t know.

So of the ones you listed, I''d go wth #1 as my top pick. But the one Sc picked is a very nice one too.

She should be, I explained earlier in the thread, thats why I concentrated on GIA diamonds only when Tiffany said she still preferred to stick with GIA, there are lots of AGS diamonds which might suit her if she was open to the idea.
