Which sapphire do you prefer? Narrowed it down to two.

This is a follow-up from a previous post. I've narrowed it down to two, although I feel like I'm partial to the yellow (put it on hold) as it's the one I keep thinking about in the back of my mind. Yellow doesn't seem to get as much love on these boards though, so I suppose that's the only thing that makes me a little tentative. Seems like some have described yellows as looking dull or not having that much brilliance compared to other colors. Granted, I have seen neither in real life.

I know I would be extremely happy with either though. I've also thought about letting my boyfriend make the final decision and being surprised. Regardless of the stone, I think I'd let the setting be a surprise.

As a board, which do you guys like better? They are both about the same price, though the green is a carat larger. Both are plenty large for me and they both seem cut very well. I realize I will be the one wearing it everyday, and they are both very different, but I appreciate your opinions.

* 2.01 Intense Yellow Nigerian Sapphire (Unheated)
* $3,000
* 6.9 x 5.1 mm

* 3.11 Teal Blue-Green Australian Sapphire (Unheated)
* $3,111
* 7.35 x 5.90 mm

Yellow still wins for me. In terms of size, even though the green has a higher carat weight, if you look at the measurements, both are close to the 7 mm mark, so the green is only slightly larger than the yellow. :naughty:

Same for me yellow :). The yellow looks bright to me :)

Another vote for the yellow one. Decent yellow sapphires sometimes look like yellow diamonds in the right setting. I find your other choice a bit dark for my taste.

Have you seen yellow sapphire's in yellow gold? Just something you may want to see before you commit to it.

Yellow all the way!

If you keep thinking about the yellow - then go for the yellow!!

I have and actually like the look. Although with this stone I wouldn't be opposed to white gold. I'd probably want the prongs yellow for sure though.

I prefer the yellow stone too. It's just brighter and livelier than the green stone (which is also beautiful, but more understated). I think yellow gold might be a bit bold though.... Maybe you can photoshop it before pulling the trigger on that combo, just to see how it looks.

Some ideas of how the yellow would look with yellow gold.

Yellow for me too. Not that easy finding a nice saturated unheated one. The colour is very uplifting.

I like them both!

I think the yellow one looks more like something someone in their 20's and 30's would wear and the teal one someone a bit older like 40's and 50's.

Also, consider your skin colour and hair color. If you're blond the yellow one won't look as good. If you're tanned the yellow one would look better than the teal. If you're a red head and white skin, the teal would look gorgeous!

It all depends.

I like the yellow one! In a high carat yellow gold, yum!

If you are concerned about blending (skin tone, too much yellow, etc), unplated white gold or a border of white (diamond melees) will help create that contrast for it to pop.

These are two very different sapphires! haha Yet they're both gorgeous in the own right. I think lexilex makes a great point about skin/hair color and setting preferences. Also, everyone always has a gut feeling, even if faint. Which one do you gravitate toward the most? And is there any way you could see both in-person first before deciding? Because I know for me, seeing stuff in person always helps me decide and it's usually instantly.

I actually am dark blonde and fair (though not SUPER pale). But I've always worn yellow gold and yellow clothes and always thought it looks good on me. I have thought about seeing them both, then returning one. Boyfriend and I just aren't sure how much damage we want to do on his credit card at one time. We're planning on speaking to Jeff at Earth's Treasury over the phone today or tomorrow with any outstanding questions we have.

Can you have Jeff photograph BOTH stones in the same picture?

Have you looked at any yellow stones in person? I thought I might want a yellow sapphire for my ering, but, when I put them on my hand as we looked in person, they didn't "pop" on me as much as very lively stones that had at least bits of other colors in them (blues, greens, browns). While one of these stones may be perfect for you, I'd really want to see tons of stones in person first if possible (or at least in videos). My now-fiance and I looked at dozens of sapphires over a period of a couple months and only saw 3 in that time that were the shape we wanted (something elongated looks best on my fingers) and amazing stones, very lively, great cuts, gorgeous color, and dazzlingly beautiful in all lighting. Before we saw the super special ones, we were getting close to going with stones I realized after were pretty but meh in comparison to the 3 WOWZA stones. I still remember each of the others (the third and last he got for my ering) and he hopes to get me one of the others in the future (or something very similar).

I am in no way any expert, but, as for your question, the green sapphire looks like it may have quite a bit more sparkle and life to it (especially in the 2nd and 3rd photos of it) than the yellow one. If you end up liking it, kite set would seem really nice for that.

If you do the yellow one, I like it in platinum as a nice look of mixed metals even though it's only one metal, but I'm a sucker for yellow stones with yellow pave in yellow gold (like Heidi Klum's ring from Seal, but with a sapphire and not quite so jumbo).

That would be a good idea. I can talk to him about doing that.

The only color I've seen in person was blue. It seems hard (at least where I am, to my knowledge) to find a jeweler who has, or can get a decent number of unheated stones to see. And even then, it seems like they might not be as well cut, and harder to guarantee the stone's chain of custody.

I should probably request hand shots of the yellow stone though. The green has two on the hand, and the yellow has none, which would probably make a difference.

I'm putting in my vote for the yellow one. I tend to lean towards greens and blues but I think that yellow one is so pretty! :love:

Yes, the extra number of shots for the green one and the additional hand shots made me wonder if it might be a nicer stone and might look nicer even just laying on the hand. (but I wouldn't assume that, better to have more pics like you said and videos/see in person.)

Even if you can't see unheated sapphires or sapphires with known chains of custody in person where you are, it still might be useful to see what yellow stones and green stones look like on your hand. Yellow was a strong contender for me until I saw some on me and realized that it didn't "pop" at all on me compared to other colors (we didn't buy any of those stones- most weren't sapphires or weren't the best quality, but it did help narrow down colors/shapes that I like on my hands).

Separately- unlike the PPs, I think that yellow gemstones might look best on blondes, not worst - Heidi Klum, Jenny McCarthy, Carrie Underwood, Rebecca Romijn, and quite a few more blondes have yellow rings that look amazing on them).

Also- have you looked at stones on your fingers in person for a sense of size? You could feel like there's a significant difference in the size of those 2 stones on your finger. Not that that alone should make the decision (I picked a smaller stone that was better quality/cut/color than others I'd considered).

I like both. They're both very unique in their own right....

But I'm a sucker for green and bluish green. :love: (which btw, I think that stone would look stellar in yellow or a pale pink gold)

Listen to your heart in what you want. I don't think you can go wrong either way frankly.

Both of the stones have a very similar mm size, so I think they're going to end up looking about the same on the finger, even though the green has a larger carat size. But I agree, the size isn't the end all be all for me. I'm more concerned about quality.

Yes, if I went with the green it would for sure be set in either yellow or rose gold :)

Honestly, Jeff is a great guy so I'd tell him what's going on - you're interested in two of his stones, and is there any way you could see both (for a different price other than the cost of both)? I completely understand not wanting to put a lot on your credit card, but if you send it back the next day, you should have a refund on your card before the next payment is due.

I look forward to hearing how your conversation went with him.

Both are super but the yellow is just seems so much stronger. Green-blue is rarer in sapphire, right? But such yellow! Sunshine in stone.
I, too, would love to see both gems in one picture and the same background.

Here's a few quick hand shots Jeff snapped for me this morning. He said the yellow is a more lively stone, but that that is to be expected with lighter gems.

Uh? That looks very different now. I would have thought the luster is still, or better, visible in the yellow, and the green lost its blue? Now more confused than before, me.
