I had posted this on my pad thread, but as Alj pointed out, she missed the thread completely so I was hoping to get some input from our lovely PSers who don''t often frequent the colored stones forum.

Which one strikes you more? Go gut instinct and don''t analyze it too much. Thanks PSers!

Obviously the stones have been photoshopped. And please be thoughtful when making remarks because the rings (especially the leon) probably do belong to someone.

James Meyer Leon Mege

TG both are gorgeous. I voted for the James Meyer, love the simplicity of it. It''s simple yet elegant and has a great flair to it. The other is a much more ornate setting, which is stunning. But for what you want, as this will be worn by you and passed to Amelia, James Meyer is a great fit??

I, too, voted James Meyer.

Maybe it''s just too much time on PS, but I''m a bit halo-ed out. The LM is gorgeous, to be sure, but I agree with Lisa that the simplicity of the JM setting appeals to me more.

It''s too hard to decide!!!!!!!

But I vote for #1 - it''s unique (so is the other one though) and stunning and has a symplicity to it that makes it a perfect contender for "heirloom" status

I also voted for the James Meyer, but I''m generally not as much a fan of Leon''s work as most people here /www.pricescope.com/idealbb/images/smilies/23.gif[/img]runs and hides

>>. That said, they''re both beautiful settings and anyone would be lucky to have either one. From the Photoshopped pics, though, it seems to me that the James Meyer really showcases the stone whereas the Leon showcases the setting, does that make sense?

This is interesting, and yet the votes (minus mine for Leon because I had to vote for someone to see the results) is 10 to 6, Leon!

Alj, I''m seriously halo''d out too, but IRL I''ve only met 2 people with them. One a tif legacy and the other an antiquey setting - RB in a square halo. Actually, nix that, one of my friends just got a halo from ben bridge.

But I''m thinking it may be a candidate for finger coverage alone. The stone is on the smaller side. The JM showcased is a 1.5 carat cushion while the leon is showing a 1.27 carat cushion.

I''d let Leon do his magic, but I was thinking of letting him know this setting struck me. I am not sure I would want ALL those diamonds though...what a crazy PSer I am!!!

There are lots of drive by''s... They hit vote and don''t leave any feedback.

Yah--in agreement here. (haloed out) I love Leon's solitaires, though. Good luck Tgal!

If you let Leon do his magic, have a meeting of the minds at first... Give him some guide lines as to what you want, and what you don''t. I forgot the stone is smaller, so yes a halo would do a lot for it. He''s great over the phone, but speak your mind as well. Don''t give him a fresh canvas and say you do what you want..... Please.

I actually didn''t realize at first that Tgal wanted more feedback--I was just doing a gut-instict-which-do-I-like-more vote without really analyzing it.

I voted for the James Meyer because it looks different from a lot of the gemstone rings I''ve seen lately. I know quite a few people IRL with gemstones in a halo, and they''re truly beautiful, but I am pulled toward the one that looks a little different.

Hope that helps!

LOL Kaleigh, I''m not crazy! I am saying, if I asked you to do what you want, what would you do? I think too many times we make an artist into a benchman. I am going to give him key elements I would want to have in the end, but if I were to give him carte blanche, what would he come up with? It might be interesting to see what an artist does when he is given all these constraints, you know what I mean?

I''m debating all this because Richard can send the stone to the designer. I can bypass Leon and go straight to JM and probably afford to have it set right away. The question is, do I give Leon a shot at coming up with a design for it? He is fine with coming up with a design without any obligation to me...he''s already said as much. I''d even probably give him the JM setting as the other candidate, so he sees what I am leaning toward.

I''m thinking JM is going to be a pretty common sight around here in the near future, thanks to Ms. Coati....

I adhered to your request as much as I could, and voted for the Leon. It has a tremendous visual appeal even though I''m not a halo person.

However, if I were undertaking your project, knowing that you''re working with a sapphire and making a ring to honor your daughter, I''d choose the James Meyer setting (or something like it). My reasons in no particular order: * the setting is a durable and hard-working as the stone, so you could wear it pretty much whenever you want and could certainly pass it down; * it''s less fussy.

I think I voted for the leon in part because the pad''s color seems so feminine, and the leon sort of screams feminine. But as we all know, "feminine" comes in many different shapes and colors, and there''s certainly nothing masculine about that James Meyer design!

both are gorgeous and you can''t go wrong either way!!

since this is for a colored stone I''m going to say the Leon halo. I just love the look of a colored stone in a diamond halo!

if it were for a diamond i would totally go James Meyer. i LOVE that setting, but for some reason a colored stone doesn''t feel right in it (IMO).

or am i analyzing too much!!

I definitely agree. I certainly can''t get that gorgeous bezel out of my head.

To me, PS is such a different world as far as trends go. I have never seen many of the jewelry trends that are popular here in real life (or have seen very few). I have seen many gemstones in halos in daily life (must add that most were nowhere near the quality and loveliness that is a Leon), but I haven''t seen anything like the JM setting in person. That instantly draws me to it.

I think either style will be gorgeous with a pad. I am excited to see what you choose.

I love the James Meyer. And I voted for it. But it's because I actually don't like colored stones with too much else going on around them and that Leon has too much going on for me-- pave, bezel, milgrain. It detracts from it.

I would probably MOST prefer something with MORE diamonds than that James Meyer. But Leon is too ornamented for me for your beautiful pad.

I voted for JM, having read your other thread - I''d actually love to see that beauty in something lotus-inspired, and JM seems more naturalistic than LM. Either one would be an awesome choice, though!

VERY tough call, but I went with the Leon; I just love a halo of white diamonds around a colored stone, it just adds some extra sparkle, and with a un-enormous stone, it sounds perfect.

Whatever you pick, though, will be gorgeous- beautiful choices!

I vote James Meyer. IMHO that setting is more complimentary to the stone, as the design is incredibly beautiful whilst being delicate and subtle, not busy or overpowering. Nor in the Leon, for that matter, but I just feel the halo draws all attention to the ring as a whole, whereas I think that gorgeous pink needs to take centre stage, and doesn''t need much embellishment.

Ack. Sorry to rant. Long story short they are both stunning, but I prefer the first

I love the James Meyer ring, so I voted for that one. I usually love Leon''s rings too, but this one just seemed a little busy (in my opinion), especially for a colored stone.

I''m actually surprised I feel this wasy, as I am a HUGE fan of a beautiful Leon, but I absolutely LOVE that James Meyer for this stone. I think there''s something about the color of the stone with the flowy hand-forged (almost rustic) Meyer. Either way, you REALLY can''t go wrong. Both are fantastic!

JM! The Leon just looks a bit too princess-y with a pink stone IMO.

I voted halo - just not that particular halo setting. It is too big for the size stone IMO. I would pare it down and make the shank simpler. I really like the JM bezel but I''m not crazy with it for that stone as I think the stone could use some embellishment.

Hate to be difficult and not choose either outright but that''s my gut feeling!

The Leon is more eye catching and more heirloom quality to me. While the James Allen is beautiful in it''s simplicity I don''t think it''d attract the eye as much. It seems more bohemian/young. In fact, the JA seems more in line with what I''d see in the silver type of jewelry. The Leon, with it''s diamonds, is a quality piece you''d want to pass on from generation to generation.

I voted for the James Meyer. There''s just something about it that strikes me even though I am a halo person. Quite honestly and I know I will be smacked hard for this, I''m a bit Leoned out.

I haven''t voted for either on the basis I love them both either one would look drop dead amazing with that stone. Can I just sit on the fence and like drink beer.

Something to consider though if you want to leave this ring to Amelia one day how the pave will stack up overtime.

Layla put her finger on exactly what I was feeling without realizing it.......for me, the Leon setting competes with the stone.

That pad is one of the most gorgeous stones I''ve ever (virtually) seen. It''s in a class all its own. It should be the STAR and center of attention in its setting home, and I do think the Leon setting pictured would ''upstage'' your beautiful pad.
